Klein

Appearing on Anderson Cooper 360 tonight on CNN, Time Magazine columnist Joe Klein said that John McCain's comments Tuesday that Barack Obama is willing to lose a war to win an election were the most scurrilous he had ever heard by a major party candidate.

On his blog on the Time Magazine website, Klein wrote that the comment "smacks of desperation."

Not sure why anyone would be surprised by this type of damming rhetoric coming from the swiftboating wing of the Republican hit machine.

Basically this is their only strategy to paint Obama as weak on maintaining the security of our nation and weak when it comes to defending this country against terrorists.

This is exactly what W did to Kerry, smeared him as a wimpy boyscout unwilling to kill, kill, kill in defense of his country.

Now they will try to portray the old man as a skilled veteran pilot who understands war, while in truth the old man did not have the skills to avert a ground missile, got shot down and spent 5 inglorious years as a prisoner of war, which has made this Manchurian candidate a bitter angry, hostile old man lacking any judgment or willingness to end this or any other war.

Actually , good analogy As the Swift Boat for Truth guys were correct and Never Refuted by Kerry, This also is true about Barack and the Defeatocrats... Only surrender is good in the eyes of a prograssive. And more and more people are realizing it, thanks to the Obamassiah tour as the MSM has to report that the surge worked, even in his own way Barack had to admit it and he was wrong, along with Reid and Pelosi and Durbin.

Perhaps Senator McCain would care to inform us what "victory" in Iraq would look like.

And perhaps he could also tell us how to "win" an occupation.

This is a an easy question. If we leave with a Republican in office it is victory; if it is a democrat, it's a loss. There doesn't seem to be any other discriminator.

It really IS too early to start drinking. It does terrible things to your prospective and, with all due respect, one tends to believe the silliest things.

I have found the McC campaign to be tremendously devious and backhanded...recent case in point, the removal of Dr. Gramm as chief advisor to the campaign. Meanwhile, behind closed doors, staff are assuring supporters that he will have a "very important role to play in the McC administration". (Source: MSNBC)

It's my understanding that, in general, conservatives like to keep things the way they are while liberals want to change the status quo. Take a look around, rwe, and tell me that this is want you want...an economy in the toilet, a sick and gasping planet, citizens losing their homes because of the manipulations of the very wealthy and a president who is 20 years behind in his geography studies. And that's just for openers.

Have some coffee and rethink, please.

Lets bring the USS Missouri out of mothballs, allow John McCain to sit on her deck with Lindsay Graham and Joe Lieberman, have them wait for the enemy to arrive to sign surrender papers while surrendering their swords. McCain's remarks are very much like his ad blaming Obama for high gas prices just more Bull$hit, typical for his party, so much for being a maverick.

Yeah, but I suspect there ain't much truth in the rumours because the big fish aren't biting. I don't usually accept the National Enquirer as a valid source.

Good grief!
The Iraq War was wrong from day one - how many American lives have been lost? How many American GI's have been mamed for life, both mentally and physically? Have many innocent men, women and children in Iraq have beem killed or mamed? How many countries that use to admire America now look at us as war mongers?
Does any of this matter? YES IT DOES! It all matters!
Senator Obama s the best thing that has happened to this country in years - and the american press is so willing to give this election to John McCain that it's pitiful....it's sinful.
John McCain is demented, and all he knows is THE SURGE and OFFSHORE DRILLING. Thats it!
Our next president has a huge mess to clean up - 8 years of the Bush administration and the republican white house. Obama is half black, he's young, he's fresh, he has a brilliant mind, and he knows what needs to be done to get us back on track. We need a great change in this country, and unless Senator Obama is elected it will not occur. Want 4 more years of war, economic decline, jobs shipped overseas, unaffordable health care, and did I mention more WAR? Then be stupid and vote for John McCain. Let the warmongers ruin our country, let the superrich run our government, and let the poor and sick just wither away. It's your decision.
VOTE SMART - OBAMA '08!

"Most Scurrilous" Why use these unprecise terms? Is this a self serving comment? There are many way to define McCain's comments in a straight forward fashion.

Wasn't McCain the one who said he would resist negative campaigning?

If that was not the truth then he definitely qualify s as a replacement for Bush.

I dont know calling them Nazi appeasers saying that they were endorse by a terrorist group or comparing them to a terrorist that killed 3,000 people. After being called a terrorist being called traitor should feel like a war in the park.

That McCain's adopted daughter from Bangladesh is the biological child of McCain and a black prostitute. The Bush campaign spread this rumor in SC in 2000. Apparently, even innocent children are not safe from the Rovian slime machine.

Republicans are perfectly willing to lie about each other (as long as there is a competition) as well as about Democrats because they know that overly-ambitious ruthless Republicans will always pretend to forgive each other afterwards and even embrace the most scurrilous rumor-mongers and liars (for mutual photo-ops, yet) in order to keep their political alliances going.

Bush also said that McCain was a Manchurian candidate as a result of his brainwashing and that Mrs. McCain was a hopped up druggie. And McCain still embraced Bush on stage in public for that infamous campaign photo.

That is yet another thing that makes it so laughable when they accuse Obama of going negative!

The open question here is what kind of people pay so little attention or are so ethically corrupt and so anti-"family values" that they can support a man who , for his own political advancement, embraced the guy who smeared his family, including a child?

I think McCain's statement is pretty detestable but Klein's reaction is a bit hyperbolic. Nixon's campaign against McGovern was pretty vile (the "acid, amnesty and abortion" candidate). Bush's swift-boating of John Kerry was also pretty rank.

But I, too, am surprised by the lows to which the McCain campaign as already sunk. They seem to be flailing about. It's only July and they're already accusing Obama of being responsible for rising gas prices and wanting to lose a war. By October, they'll be accusing him of killing Jimmy Hoffa and kidnapping the Lindbergh baby.

McCain certainly needs to explain his remarks and I am sure there will be a backtrack.

And Joe Klein still needs to apologize for his idiotic and cruel remarks making a joke on CNN out of a young womans death in March from a stingray. I can only imagine what that womans family must of thought listening to that jerk try to be funny at their love ones expense.

Either McCain pushes for an indictment of Obama for his supposed sedition or McCain should resign from public life.
