I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The images from Barack Obama's trip abroad have been, one might say, picture perfect. From the stern shot of Obama with Gen. David Petraeus to the somber photos from Israel's Holocaust Museum, one guesses that Obama's campaign couldn't be more pleased.

As for John McCain -- well, that's another story:

MONDAY

McCain in a golf cart with George H. W. Bush at Walker's Point in Kennebunkport, Maine:

TUESDAY

As oil companies announce their massive quarterly profits, McCain makes a campaign stop at Buxton Oil Inc.:

WEDNESDAY

McCain takes questions from reporters about a range of domestic and foreign policy issues -- in front of an aisle of cheese:

Then, via Jed Report, McCain holds an event in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and 900 of the 1600 seats in the auditorium remain empty:

McCain = Death of Amerca
Obama = Death of America

Wake up people. You are not safe. We are being systematically ruined, and theres nothing McCain or Obama is going to do about it.

Wake Up....

Wrong; but there are a lot of Americans that are slowly killing themselves. More folks commit suicide with a fork or a bottle than with any other instrument. "We have met the enemy and he is us"

You may be right . The borrow and spend, rather than tax and spend has taken our National Debt to 9.4 trillion dollars. Just the interest on the National Debt is over 406 billion dollars per year, and we are still borrowing 3 billion per week to support this occupation in Iraq. Our housing debt has grown to 5 trillion dollars because of deregulating the mortgage system, which the tax payer will have to pay.
This financial crisis has not even come close to what is in our future.

Can it!

The death of America has been occuring over the past 40 years as those who put their own self-interested economic concerns beyond that of the 'greater' good of the nation, escape scrutiny, accountability and responsibility. To date, I have yet to see those men and women who have ushered in the mortgage crisis be prosecuted. Why? Because these are the same folks who represent the 1% of this nation who basically run this country. Millions of families now find themselves in either poverty or limited economic stress, yet they come before Congress with a gallery of high paid lawyers to explain how they simply made some 'honest' mistakes.

In one aspect, you are correct; neither Obama nor McCain can solve this problem. But, the majority of the American people can if they simply wake up and demand some accountability. Over the last 40 years or so, both parties have effectively used 'external' forces to provide cover for their own mistakes, creating a virtual boogyman to hide that it is corrupt, greedy old white men who are operating in an environment of 'de-regulation' which has contributed to and in many cases caused our problems. And, add the mental and emotional habit of many white folks not being able to accept or believe that these men and women are corrupt, as they have been told over and over again that it is the 'boogyman', and we have our present dilemna.

"The death of America has been occuring over the past 40 years as those who put their own self-interested economic concerns beyond that of the 'greater' good of the nation"

That is a falsity perpetuated by the people destroying this country. Read Atlas Shrugged.
Helping all Americans out, even those who make poor financial choices, or who dont produce or work, is done on the backs of people who dont make bad choices and who do produce and work. Its not governments job
to look out for the "good" of the people. That always fails. Its their job to protect this country
and thats its. Its not politicians jobs to be traveling to Israel to offer unwavering support of a very oppressive society, in regards to its neighbors, when our own society suffers for that support. Someday you'll learn, god forbid you don't...

Light a candle or curse the darkness.... no real choice there, my friend. If we sink, it will not be because I am drilling a hole in the bottom of the boat... and maybe Obama cannot save us by himself...but if all of us are bailing like crazy, then perhaps we can escape the waves and have time to build a better boat.

Him standing next to 41 just goes to show that JM is a product of a bygone era. He has ideas that would have worked then. This is a new age and we need new ideas and innovations rather than old ideas that worked during the cold war.

Which one is only 71?

McCain actually looks older next to 41

Actually I think it's a great image. Barack is overseas looking presidential and McSame is looking like a retiree enjoying a leisurely day of golf which is what he should be doing!

My favorite photo of McCain this week is of his arrival at the airport Monday in Manchester. He's all alone, carrying his own bag, no crowd to greet him and only a couple of reporters on hand. You can see it at http://www.laconiademocrats.org where we're keeping New Hampshire informed about Mc$hame's stunning characteristics.

I keep seeing images of Obama at podiums (suggesting large crowds) while I keep seeing images of McCain with a microphone in his hand (suggesting a more intimate setting.)

I realize it is ACTUALLY because McCain hates teleprompters and prepared speeches while Obama is quite good at delivering prepared speeches. But the effect is that Obama seems to have more impact and gravitas.

McCain seems to be less presidential.

And I see these kinds of images over and over and over again.

Absolutely. I live in the UK, and when John Kerry lost in 2004 the depression most Britons felt was heavy and bad. It was like "how could they do that?". I believe that if your Constitution allowed a third term, Bush would be still able to provide good competition with ANY Democrat. Unbelievable given his record.

America needs to wake up and understand the agendas the Media, Congress and the White House have and display a bit more savvy. Make them work for the people's respect.

I am at this time extremely sceptical of the polls: I don't think they are as close as the Media are making them out to be. They neither show the strong support, nor I suspect the strong opposition to Obama winning the Presidency.

Here's to a better, wealthier, wiser USA.

Excellent comments.

The essence of America's racial problem has always revolved around 'made-up' minds. There were virtually millions of folks both black and white on one side knocking on the door, and there were and are millions of folks on the other side re-inforcing the door to keep folks out. It has been the constant 'American struggle' that found McCain voting against the MLK, Jr. holiday and AZ being among the next to last or last states which denied the recognize of the national holiday once it passed. It was white republican candidates using the Southern Manifesto in 1957 and then again in 1968 under the newly refined name of the 'Southern Strategy' which have comforted those same groups of individuals who do not want to open the door to 'change'.

And, yes there is a strong vein of support that stands then in clear opposition to Obama; because they have grown up in America believing that they were justified in building barriers to keep the 'other' folks out. And, Obama thus merely motivates them to act and do their part to keep the door closed and their 'way of life' intact and comfortable.

They may not actively support McCain, but they do recognize what in their minds the election of Obama would mean in terms of their thinking. Time will tell how deep and rigid the thinking is and how numerous those who think this way still remains.
