Politico's Jonathan Harris and Chris Frates report that Robert Novak was cited by DC police Wednesday morning after hitting a pedestrian with his black Corvette:

Syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., on Wednesday morning.

A Politico reporter saw Novak in the front of a police car with a citation in his hand; a WJLA-TV crew and reporter saw Novak as well. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old male, was hospitalized at George Washington University Hospital with minor injuries, according to DC Fire and EMS. Novak was later released by police and drove away from the scene.

"I didn't know I hit him. I feel terrible," a shaken Novak told reporters from Politico and WJLA as he was returning to his car. "He's not dead, that's the main thing." Novak said he was a block away from 18th and K streets Northwest, where the accident happened, when a bicyclist stopped him and said, "You hit someone." He said he was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The bicyclist was David Bono, a partner at Harkins Cunningham, who was on his usual bike commute to work at 1700 K St. N.W. when he saw the accident happen.

As he traveled east on K Street, crossing 18th, Bono said a "black Corvette convertible with top closed plowed into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed onto the windshield."

Watch a local DC news report on the Novak pedestrian accident:

In an exclusive interview with TMZ, Novak admitted that he was at fault but blamed NPR for distracting him while driving:

Novak tells us he was listening to NPR in his Corvette when suddenly, "Some guy came up and hit my car with his fist. I figured I had done something that had created road rage, but I didn't know what it was. Then a bicyclist blocked the road in front of me. I asked what the problem was. He said, 'You can't just hit people and run away!'"

Novak says the cops came, put him "briefly" in the back of the police car and asked about what he heard at the time of impact. Novak told them and us that he didn't hear or feel anything. They asked if he had been drinking or on a cellphone. He answered "no" to both.

Novak, who was citied for failing to yield, says he won't fight the ticket, adding, "I assume witnesses are telling the truth."

Could you ask for a better metaphor for the RECKLESSNESS of MAIN STREAM MEDIA?

Or for that matter, could you find a better symbol for the youthful diligence of the internet in the bicyclist CHASING DOWN the PERPETRATOR of INJURY to EXPOSE HIS CRIME?

I hope someone is writing this into a scene in a documentary about the RISE AND FALL OF THE FOURTH ESTATE.

(quick, somebody call Robert Greenwald at Brave New Films)

I like that metaphor, but David Bono is a partner at his firm. Wouldn't he be fairly old, though probably not ancient?

google in David bono harkins cunningham LLc and you can see a photo. He does not look that old and is rather handsome. Duke and Harvard Law, graduating magna cum laude at both, and had a history that included working for the Executive Branch in various law suits prior to his current position. The accompanying did not say if it was under Clinton or either of the Bush's--I would love it if it had been during the Clinton years, though jsut to irk Novak.

Was that verbatim what he said after outing Valerie Plame? He is beyond law and beyond decency.
However, after helping CNN with starting the war in Iraq, he is no longer needed to other wars. There are other, more attractive people who are ready to do that for a fee.

Geez, and I thought my week sucked...

Novak, go home, take the phone off the hook, unplug the tv's and radios, and either find a good book to read or play some board games....

Between being used by the McCain camp and nearly killing a man, this is not his week...

Great excuse for fleeing from a hit and run...
Novak, a fleeing felon.

Dear Mr Novak,

The question is :

The witness stated that the victim was splayed on the wind-shield

You said you were not aware that you had hit anyone

How can you not notice HITTING someone WHO IS SPLAYED on your wind-shield ?

How about citing the sumbitch for leaving the scene of an accident?

Maybe the guy he hit looked like Ambassador Wilson?

Quick someone call the White House so that Bush can issue another pardon.

Hate to state the obvious but if some por pedestrian bounced off my windshield, I would damn well know it and not, prepeat NOT leave the scene.

It was a freaking Corvette, not a huge truck. How could he not know someone had bounced off his windshield?

Novak is a complicated person; angry and bitter. And he has as much disdain for jay walkers as he has for Liberals.

Novak is blinded by the dark one, he doesn't look at the world through rose colored glasses...

This isn't the first person he's run over without even looking in the rear view mirror.

VOLVO YUPPIE, I notice that you are one of the worst when it comes to insults and name calling....what do you think Conservatives would be saying if this happened to Barry? I'll tell you....we would be wishing him well during his tough time.....but that's because we know that everyone has feelings, and during bad times, need support.....we believe in God and His teachings.. "do unto others" is not simply a slogan, it should be a way of life.......you Liberals better find some sort of spirituality, or you will all die a sad and lonely bunch.

Give it a break. C9onservative Republicans believe the teaching read "do unto others so you will have so much they cannot do unto you what you did to them" or something more like that...I noticed you could not seem to go farther than the do unto others part...which kind of iw what has hapened for 8 years not. My observations from my years as a social worker and teacher is that the last people who want the government to be any part of the real Do unto Other as they would do unto you would be conservative republicans at least. I do give some credit to conservatives who don't wrap themselves in the flag of republicanism because they are seeing the light that that party has used them and made them think they stood for the same things. I believe they met in Atlanta a few months ago to state their chanign views about hwo religion has led them to believe the republicans have not been good stewards of God's world and the people living in it. Liberals do include many Christians who try much harder to live out Jesus's teachings of loving your neighbor as yourselves being the second of the great commandments and knowing that the Beatitudes probably are closer to the Democratic Platform than 98% of the republican platform.

My gosh, it wasn't his fault tho, you understand, he was listening to the radio and was distracted. Blame NPR. He needs to give up driving..my guess is he knew and by cracky he was not going to be distracted enough to stop and render aid. Good for Mr. Bono. There is no excuse for this behavior and our country has too much of it of late. No accountiblity, no responsiblity and "it is your fault". Truly, we didn't need to know what kind of car he has...that is totally immateriial to the story.

Does this mean Novak was driving with his eyes closed, listening to NPR? How else would he miss a grown a$$ man splayed across his windshield?

David Bono...said a "black Corvette convertible with top closed plowed into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed onto the windshield."

Novak tells us he was listening to NPR...

hit and run law seems to be different in that state than mine.

Mine too. He would be sitting in jail if he had done that here. Well, I don't know, he is Republican and rules and laws don't apply to them. I bet he will say it was the pedestrians fault next.

No.
This is the ruling class law.. didn't you know?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:42 PM on 07/23/2008

No I don't think so. Its just who you know. But hey he was cited. If he was a movie star he would have gotten a pat on the back and the pedestrian would have gotten the ticket.
