Open Left:

For the last few months, we've been posting Democratic Senate challenger positions on net neutrality here at OpenLeft. Since we started posting, we've been getting in statements and positions, from blogs like Cotton Mouth and the Political Base, from the candidates themselves, and from readers who took the time to ask and send in statements. I'm happy to report that every single Democratic challenger with more than $500k in cash on hand has announced their support for net neutrality. This is a milestone for the fight for internet freedom. I included statements reacting to this news from Senator Byron Dorgan, Speaker Pelosi, FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, Google public policy director Alan Davidson, and Columbia Law Professor Tim Wu.

One thing you'll notice is that there is basically no organized telecom or cable money going to any of these candidates, with the exception of Al Franken, Mark Warner, and Mark Udall. Franken and Warner both had careers with cable or telecom companies, so they have friends in those industries, and Udall is a sitting House member.

Democratic Senate candidates (non-incumbent), campaign contributions from Cable/Telecom PACs, expressed positions on net neturality and candidate contacts.

Why do I get the idea that all the posters here haven't even read the article, or if they did, they had no idea what it was about? The article is about inter-net neutrality, not the fairness doctrine. It has to do with corporations controlling content and directing surfers to their corporate sponsored sites. Please stay with the program folks.

So, does network neutrality mean that McCain should have had less press coverage this week, or more?

Very confusing this "neutrality" talk. One person's "neutral" is anothers right wing slant.

Of course Al Franken would be in support of it. He can't succeed in radio without it!

Media donations favor Dems 100 to 1. Throw that 1% out-they are biased against the Dems.

The main commercial Media is essentially monopolized and is pro-war and anti-Obama. There will be no neutrality. By the way, Al Franken is also pro-war (he said in one of the interviews).

Air America had their chance they failed. They forgot that the people that host the shows are anti-corporations and since radio stations run on advertising dollars . . . common sense would show that they will keep failing.

Air America failed? I'm now wondering who I am listening to on my AM radio this morning. They call themselves the Stephanie MIller Show,.... and typically later, Ed Schultz also comes on day after day after day. Air America has failed? Did Rush tell you that? Please elaborate.

Last I checked,... AirAmerica was still streaming online and was available in most major city markets. Don't personally listen to them much anymore since Sam Seder / Genine Garaflo (my bad spelling), and since Al Franken left - but the rumors of the demise of AirAmerica are a bit overstated.

Doesn't sound like 'they failed' at least yet.

Thom Hartmann still puts on a great & intellegent show, and I hit the Jon Elliot show now and again latenight, and Rachel Maddow rocks (I don't listen to her show due to it's time slot though).

Why may I ask would anyone want to force radio or TV to put people on their programs that have proven they can't cut it on their own?

There is a reason Air America has filed for Chapter 11 and been sold multiple times.

What is wrong with having a choice?

Did Stuart Smalley ever pay his back taxes?

Piss off BigLib,... reportedly he paid them the first time,... just his ACCOUNTANT paid them to the wrong state(s). Once the problem was brought to his attention - he paid them to the states in question ASAP.

So,... as long as we're on the topic though,... did McCain and his wife ever pay their back taxes and penalties on that condo of theirs in Santa Barbra?

Just askin',.... troll.
