Jon Stewart Explains The Difference Between Osama And Obama To Media: "Obama Has Only One Radical Muslim Wife" (VIDEO)

Jumping off a series of clips of pundits and TV hosts mixing up the names Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden, Jon Stewart laid out the differences between the president candidate and the terrorist leader on Wednesday night's "The Daily Show."

"Now, this is all Barack Obama's fault, obviously, for having a really ridiculous name," Stewart joked, before running a pictorial comparing the physical differences between the two.

"Here's some more," Stewart continued. "Barack Obama has only one radical Muslim wife. Between Obama and Osama, the Bush administration is putting massive resources into trying to defeat one of them [Obama]. And one of them was recently the subject of a scathing New Yorker cover [see below]. Ooh, they made Osama seem elitist!"

I must say I have to disagree with some of those who don't like Jon Stewart most of the time. Overall I must say he is one of our better social commentators and provides very good pot shots for both sides of the political spectrum. Sometimes he you may think he crosses the line, but he does a better job than most of the MSM in conducting interviews.

Witness his question of Douglas Feith

John Stewart thinks himself too cute by a large margin. This is not terribly funny.

Sorry, can't watch John today. I'm off of Viacom products for awhile.

So ...

Most of the comments here are more upset with Jon Stewart than ANY of the TV reporters who mixed up Barrack Obama with Osama Bin Laden? I can not, for the life of me, understand that in any way shape or form.

I think that the rest of the reporters showed, perhaps, a touch of racism ... because there's no way that any sane, rational individual could mix up Barrack Obama and Osama Bin Laden ... unless they simply thought somewhere that all 'black/brown' people look alike.

That's my explanation at least. In the meantime ...

Really? Jon Stewart is the bad guy, not all the network anchors and media pundits who are STILL doing this? Really?

Huffpost Peanut Gallery, you're letting me down today!

People need to stop doing stuff like this. Americans are too stupid to get the joke. Especially those in the red states.

It's ok... stupid people in red-states don't watch the Daily Show.

And its because of people like you that Americans are too "stupid" to get the joke. Stop being so damn sensitive, if it were for people like you George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and many more great comedians would have never become famous. It was a joke, and believe me when I say this the people in the red states as well as the people in the blue states get the joke. And the people who don't see it as a joke wouldn't vote for Obama anyway so sit back and enjoy the comedy.

You people need to lighten up. As an ardent Obama supporter, I think that bit was hilarious. So does my Asian girlfriend. She doesn't see racism and sexism everywhere either. Come to the light. Jon Stewart was trying to reach the sector of our population who is going to decide this election: Young people. They've been indoctrinated in our schools, to think that standing on someone's skull is less offensive than placing a noose in a tree (Jena 6).

Why can't you liberals figure this out? Republicans should be the ones who struggle to win elections. But they are seen as God fearing Jeffersonians. In reality, the GOP is pure evil. Yet, they are viewed as the only thing that stands between liberals and the end of free speech. The reason you are so reviled in this country, is your incessant whining about things like this. Granted, it would have been funnier if he had left it at "radical wife". But...

But your incessant whining has to stop. It distracts us as surely as Iraq distracts us from Al Qaeda and Afghanistan. Instead of discussing why we are killing people for oil in Iraq, we are discussing this meaningless dribble over humor. I am convinced that the biggest racists and sexists in this country are liberals. That is the way you view the world; and the world isn't what you perceive.

Further confirms my suspicions that Stewart is not as liberal as he would like his adoring public to believe. His comedy about Obama is usually tinged disparaging. This skit reinforces the Osama-Obama misperception in the minds of the less educated.

Lighten up! :P This. Is. Comedy.

It is funny because there are partial truths to all of it. Extremists on both the Right and the Left can lose touch with reality. Politics is really much more enjoyable when you can allow some balance into your field of vision.

i get comedy - particuarly steven colbert and dave chapell. don't need a lecture on it. but parallels between adolf hitler and barack obama are offensive - not funny - no matter what your political affiliations are. jon stewart is losing viewers - and is trying to win his ratings back by sinking lower and lower.

no, it doesn't. It is hilarious and it points out the stupid persistent situation where a clean shaven Harvard Law graduate is confused with a bearded Muslim terrorist. It is hilarious.
One other tiny difference between the two names, I think -
Osama is the bearded guys first name
Obama, the clean shaven guy, it's the last name.
It is time that the residents of the red states get their minds cranked open up a bit and learn to distinguish between two very different things. "One of these things is not like the other."

Maybe they should trade names, since the only difference is the B and the S,shouldn't B stand for bearded and S stand for shaven.

Um... Satire, anyone? Seriously, stop being so damned sensitive. I also clearly remember Jon Stewart saying that Bush just gave them so much material, but that nobody will ever be off limits. He's not calling Osama, oops, Obama (see how EASY it is? Take a deep breath and LAUGH) any names. In fact, he's ridiculing those who try to associate him with Osama.

As for Jon Stewart's liberalism, he's sane, not blindly loyal to a party regardless of it's poor ideas. Isn't that what got us into this mess in the first place? Lord have mercy someone is a little to the left AND pragmatic, right?

God I'm embarrassed by my countrymen sometimes...

I don't think John really likes Obama. I think he will vote for him... but I just don't think he is that into him.

He was pretty rude to him when he interviewed him during the primaries. As opposed to his fawning all over Hillary.

I think he (and the other writers) don't really "get" Obama, and he still has personal affection for McCain, who's been on 10 times.

I also don't think he follows politics very closely at all and pretty much lets his staff find things that show the hypocrisy and stupidity he enjoys mocking. My expectations for his Obama comments are always very low.

That whole "I'm yada yada yada, and I've approved this message" has rather become a joke in itself, hasn't it? Whose dumb idea was that anyway?

hi djg....

if a campaign pays for an ad, they have to identify it as generated through their machine. that's how we, the public, know if something is coming from a PAC or directly from a campaign. it's campaign law.

re: all these comments about the daily show fanning the fire of anti-obama propaganda... come on! jon stewart is a hilarious and brilliant satirist... i don't get why people don't get that!

No reason to get sad over a lighthearted joke. He obviously isn't insinuating it is true. He is mocking people who DO believe it to be true.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:21 AM on 07/26/2008

That'd be satire. Much different than the cover of a magazine blazing out to every passerby, Stewart has some idea of the people watching his program and can safely assume _most_ will get the joke without explanation.

I've quit watching Jon Stewart. He and his writers are obsessed with Obama's race.
Every joke is a black joke. It's not funny.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:49 AM on 07/25/2008

These kinds of comments are always interesting to me. I wonder how you know what the writers are obsessed with if you've quit watching already. Jon Stewart's jokes make fun of the events themselves, media coverage and the absurdity of it all. Every joke isn't like every other joke and of course some are going to be funnier to you than others....that's the nature of comedy in general. Who goes to a comedy show and laughs at every single thought relayed by the comic? Not to mention the difference between funny ha ha and funny ironic, both of which are handled with excellence by Jon Stewart and his various cohorts. Keep laughing folks.

Lighten up, there was nothing in that that was even remotely racist. Jon Stewart has said that everyone is fair game on his show. I am glad to see that is true. Like the other poster said, he is making fun of the inane right wing lies about Obama being Muslim. I am suprised more of you didnt pick that up.

It wasn't a slam. My goodness. He was making a tongue and cheek statement on the absurdity.
