McCain Plays Catch-Up: Attends German Restaurant In German Village, Ohio

John McCain is still playing catch up to Barack Obama.

As the Illinois Democrat speaks before the picturesque Victory Column in Berlin today, the Arizona Republican is doing a slightly less exciting form of German outreach. He is having a lunch meeting with small business leaders at a German restaurant in German Village, Columbus, Ohio.

The presidential race, it seems has boiled down to who has the greatest German appeal. McCain's appearance at Schmidts' restaurant, a "Sausage Haus" comes after the RNC launched several advertisements in towns named Berlin.

Among the items he may have ordered include: Sauerkraut-Bratwurst Balls, Hoffbrau Schnitzel, or the Bratwurst, voted the "Best Wurst" by Columbus Monthly.

No disrespect to the fine German establishment, but what was McCain thinking? That it was the thought that counts? Sure, German immigrants deserve to have a voice like everyone else. But to me, this seems to be pandering to them in an effort to downplay Obama's appearance in Germany. Hey McCain, why don't you go visit Germany? You challenged Obama to visit Iraq, he did. So now it's your turn. ;)

This story is true; some thought it was a spoof. Also, while Mc was being interviewed, some chimes or bells began playing in the background, and because he "speaks so softly , but carries a big stick", he could barely be heard. Lindsey Graham was right there beside him. All they needed was a toothpick sticking out the side of their mouths.

The McCain campaign gets more pathetic by the hour. Why doesn't he figure out what he wants to do as president and then start "marketing" it instead of being reactive to everything Obama does? If he can't manage his campaign, there's no way he can manage Washington.

German Village in Columbus has few Germans -- or Republicans -- in it today.
Columbus is the Bluest city in a "red" state and GV is certainly one of the bluest, most progressive neighborhoods in the city. It was saved primarily by the progressive and gay community of Columbus and is a truly fine place for Dems and liberals to live.
If Fred Holdridge (co-founder Hausfrau Haven, and "Mayor" of GV) is still alive I can't imagine him being at all sympathetic to McCain.
I'm in the Seattle region today -- and haven't returned to Columbus in 15 yrs. -- but if / when I do I plan on a dinner at Schmidt's and Max & Erma's -- excellent food!
I wonder if John will try the "Bahama Mama"???? ;-)
