McCain Plays Catch-Up: Attends German Restaurant In German Village, Ohio

John McCain is still playing catch up to Barack Obama.

As the Illinois Democrat speaks before the picturesque Victory Column in Berlin today, the Arizona Republican is doing a slightly less exciting form of German outreach. He is having a lunch meeting with small business leaders at a German restaurant in German Village, Columbus, Ohio.

The presidential race, it seems has boiled down to who has the greatest German appeal. McCain's appearance at Schmidts' restaurant, a "Sausage Haus" comes after the RNC launched several advertisements in towns named Berlin.

Among the items he may have ordered include: Sauerkraut-Bratwurst Balls, Hoffbrau Schnitzel, or the Bratwurst, voted the "Best Wurst" by Columbus Monthly.

It doesn't get any better. McShopper is right, the campaign coverage is entertaining! Couple this with yesterday's performance in the "Dairy Delights" aisle, posing proudly alongside the gouda and baby Swiss; the look of "surprise" as the pickle jars came a tumblin' down, priceless!

As much as I want to believe the the GOP campaign is a total joke this time around and that Obama is going to win by a landslide, I am reminded almost hourly that America elected Bush twice. I watched CNN coverage of Obama in Germany live which was of course followed up with McCain. I was stunned at how completely lame McCain's photo op was - he literally WHINED into the microphone about Obama. That is all - and what an incredible contrast! McCain is completely unable to do anything but attack Obama because he has no positions on any issues of substance.

Well, McCain is certainly old enough to remember Grantland Rice, but it would seem he and his pals have not a clue what they are doing. By any measure the McCain braintrust is working through the same playbook that Bush used to croak Kerry in 2004. However, now that the public has awakened to the substantial lies they have been told and have watched their real take home pay decline in value by one-half they are in a foul temper. Things as they say; have changed. What has not changed is the continuing series of odd mistakes, weird photo-ops and an increasing ability by his campaign to distance from the truth. Not since Ed Muskie has a candidate explored so many ways to prove he has nothing of substance to say.
