Terry McAuliffe Makes VP Pick: Not Hillary

The former national chairman of the Democratic Party who ran Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign this year told 200 Democratic activists in Fairfax County Tuesday that Virginia Governor Tim Kaine would be his party's best choice as Barack Obama's vice presidential running mate.

McAuliffe was adamant in his recommendation of Kaine as the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee Tuesday, although he stressed to the News-Press after his speech, which included an informal half-hour question and answer period, that the ultimate choice will be Obama's very personal one.

However, the fact that he proposed Kaine over his own candidate and long-time friend, Hillary Clinton, suggested that he knows the Clinton option is off the table.

Biden's not the best thematic or strategic choice. I'd rather sacrifice the foriegn policy experience of a long-sitting senator at the bottom of the ticket in order to emphasize the change theme with a moderate governor. Obama can always announce his secretary of state nominee prior to the election, esp. if he picks a governor, and Biden would prob be my 2nd or 3rd choice next to Bill Richardson and Nunn. Also, Delaware (Biden) may be a semi-competitive state, but Kaine's VA is a much bigger electoral prize and will be one of the main battle-ground states this fall.

Excuse me, but why is anything that Terry McAulliffe says or does still relevant? He, like James Carville and that motor mouth wife of his, used up their 10 minutes of fame and influence a *VERY* long time ago.

But for some reason, the networks and news media see them as the "go-to people" and continually book them to spew their sage opinions on this or that issue related to politics and public policy. Frankly, I've heard enough.

They're nothing but pompous, arrogant jerks, who should just bank their fortunes and retire to the Artic Circle, never to be heard from again.

He is photogenic, that has mattered to most video outlets since the Kennedy-Nixon debates. Carville seems to be the exception to the rule. But the place they seek is Paraguay. The Bushes have secured 70,000 acres, just in case O-bama does try a justice play. The Clinton's could be front page news if they did bag their Republican counterpart, or one of his cronies, with a big game hunting instrument.

Doesn't anybody realize that Terry is what the youngsters call a "Hype Man"? A professional MC who puts himself 150% into introducing the speaker of the moment. And sometimes resorts to exaggerati­ons/hyperb­ole to get the crowd moving.

Terry may or may not consider Tim Kayne a suitable VP but that is beside the point. It was all about getting the crowd jazzed up in the moment.

Terry is the eternal cheerleader. No matter the cause or subject.

Personally, I like McAuliffe. Granted, he did support Clinton whole-heartedly, but we all make mistakes! At least his main support is for not electing another Republican­...unlike many of her supporters who seem to ONLY care about Hillary Clinton. And, he is right that what Obama really needs is someone with some military or foreign affairs experience. Give the guy a break...at least he's not one of those still yelling "Hillary! Hillary!" and as moved on, which some of her supporters seem incapable of doing!
