I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Mccain

***UPDATED BELOW***

Earlier this week, when John McCain said "it seems to me that Senator Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign," Time's Joe Klein called the political hit "as intemperate a personal attack as I've ever heard a major-party candidate make in a presidential campaign."

In response, Obama himself told NBC's Brian Williams:

Yeah, I-- I was disappointed by that language. You know, John McCain and I disagree on policy. You know, we disagreed on going into the war in Iraq. We disagreed, until recently, about the need to get more troops into Afghanistan. But I've never questioned-- that he wants to make America safer. And for him to suggest that I don't-- for him to suggest that somehow -- I'm less concerned about the safety of my wife and daughter-- than he is I think -- was -- was unfortunate.

So is McCain now backing away from directly impugning Obama's desire to keep America safe? Judging from prepared remarks emailed to reporters ahead of the Arizona Republican's speech to the American GI forum Friday afternoon, it would appear so. The closest his speech comes to that previous line of attack is when it declares: "He [Obama] would choose to lose in Iraq in hopes of winning in Afghanistan. But had his position been adopted, we would have lost both wars."

Of course it's unlikely that Obama would see his preference to re-focus on Afghanistan as choosing to "lose" in Iraq. But at least McCain is now framing Obama's position as a balance of priorities as opposed to an out and out desire to fail the country as a way to reap some political benefit. So while McCain is still prepared to go after Obama's symbolic vote to cut off troop funding and his stated opposition to the surge, it appears he may have realized that a frontal assault on Obama's wish for America to succeed is counter-productive.

2:05 PM UPDATE: Perhaps we spoke too soon. CNN reports that John McCain defended his previous attack on Obama during an interview with Wolf Blitzer that will air later this afternoon.

"I am accusing, I am stating the facts. The facts are that I don't question Sen. Obama's patriotism. I'm sure that he's a very patriotic American," he said in an interview from Denver, Colorado, where is making a speech and will later meet with the Dalai Lama.

"I question his judgment because he lacks experience and knowledge, and I questioned his judgment. ... Sen. Obama just views this war as another political issue, which he can change positions," McCain said.

Stay tuned.

But its the Surge, the Surge, not the plane, the plane. lol. I think McBush/ McSame is a one dimensional candidate who plays a broken record over and over. Waaaaaaaaaa!, but I voted for the surge, waaaaaaaaaaaa. McBush also voted for the Iraq war too.

Frankly, McSame is an abject disgrace to his role as a Senator; to the United States; to every American citizen. He is a liar and a fraud. I kind of wish Obama would take the gloves off and hammer this dolt, but then Obama becomes more of a typical politician and negates one of the main tenets of his campaign, offering a different kind of politics.

Every person paying attention to this campaign should show their displeasure with McGrumpy's antics and rhetoric and not send him funds or vote for him in the election. If you think Bush has damaged the US, what do think McAngry would do?

McCain, just like Bush! McCain is a bumbling elder who would not bring the leadership and changes
that are so vital to this country's future. No to McCain!!!!

Very well put.

What a contrast. One candidate weighs his words carefully, thinks about the implications of what he's saying. The other sings about bombing Iran, jokes about killing civilians with cigarettes, misnames and misplaces countries, and rearranges the order of events to fit his agenda.

Go ahead, America, make your choice.

Excellent points DTM.

JM NEVER thinks before he speaks. It's a machismo problem he has. It's like when I was a kid and did something that made my Dad lose it. Dad would get so intent on the "because I said so" routine that he made very little sense and got very angry because he felt embarrassed. Also, whenever JM makes a crude or improper joke about a topic or situation that has no room for humor, he always follows it with that creepy laugh. It's an awkward laugh, a laugh that no one but sociopaths and knuckle-dragging animal toturers find amusing.

He is simply mentally/emotionally/psychologically unfit to lead this, or any, country.

If Obama can't start hitting McCain with some great one liners he's done. He better get Biden as VP cause Biden will tell it like it is. People don't have time for his long winded explanations. Get to the point Senator and start making statements like - John McCain doesn't know what a win in Iraq is. John McCain wants to stay in Iraq so Haliburton and all his buddies can continue to suck the american people dry. Lets get tough now! Biden for VP

I agree. Sometimes I wish Obama wasn't so diplomatic and careful in his answers, but it's because he's been burned and misquoted out of context so much. So, an outspoken partner like Biden or Dodd, who really speak their minds would help put McSame in his place.

He will, IF you listen to what he says, he will not discuss McCain in a negative way while on foreign soil (like Bush did I think in Israel, didnt he? Not sure on my info there..)
But anyway, he will in time, but one thing he exudes from not so quick to bash is PATIENCE, CALM, CONTROL, REASONING and JUDGEMENT! I dunno, sounds like traits you DO want in a president!!!

Obama will not land those lines himself. He just does not mix it up on that level with his opponents. He sure frustrates his supporters because we all have the urge to mix it up for him. Mika and Joe S. have been complaining bitterly about the "hate" mail they get from Obama supporters who are trying to set the record straight. Of course, we supporters do realize that it is just not Obama's style to mix it up in the gutter. He will need his VP choice to go out and do the dirty deed for him (and me). I guess on balance we have to admit his high road approach did gain him the nomination, so he might just be on to something. Obama '08

Since I stopped watching Faux news; I started watching Morning Joe.....it's painful ....KO seems to be the only person that tells it like it is. Agree on Biden.

I seriously don' recall the last time I saw or heard Cheney do anything?

Here is an intresting link about McCain in The Army Times. McCain has voted against increasing the VA Budget and he was against the New GI Bill and never even showed up to vote on the bill.

I read that more and more of the soldiers return home are taking prozac or other anti-depressants. This trype of depression does not only hurt the person who is suffering, but also their families. Depression is a seriouls matter and from what they have seen and the stress they are under, for him to pander to this group of soliders, knowing full well he is going to vote against any GI help, is just deplorable. He could care less that these soliders suffer when they come home and may self medicate with alcohol or street drugs. Military personnel are the lowest paid people in the US. Yes, they do get family medical on base etc., but they are not doctors, they are flight surgeons. I know my dad retired from the Navy after 25 years. These men have gone through emotional, physical and mental trauma they will always remember. I was visiting hPearl Harbor memorial a few years back and there were several veterans there. I was standing next to them and they read the wall of names and the maouselums (sps) of their friends who had passed and they were in tears. How many years have passed? In speaking with this he told me that when he passes, he wants his remains placed in with his buddies that were on those ships. I teard up, this man felt that he should have been there for his friends and felt guilty he survived.

BE PROUD OF OUR SOLDIERS.....

Not only did McCain insult Obama he did so hypocritically. Iam referring to his statement wrt Obama's speech in Berlin. McCain criticized Obama saying, 'I'd rather speak at a rally or a political event outside the US after Iam president ...' Well McCain did speak at gatherings outside the US: 20 June he gave a speech in Canada on NAFTA to the Economic Club of Canada and charged $100.00 a person. He took trips to Colombia and Mexico as well.

On national TV last night McCain slammed Obama again: 'Obama would rather lose a war than lose a political campaign.'

It has been rumoured that McCain's campaign tried to pressure Chancellor Merkel not to welcome Obama too warmly. Of course they denied it, but when asked if the WH had contacted Merkel they said we have no knowledge of that. So not only has McCain insulted Obama he may have attempted to sabotage Obama's trip.

The unwritten rule not to criticize a US President while overseas apparently does not apply to a presidential candidate traveling overseas.

Character is what I look for in a President. John McCain seems to have lost his.

Mc Same never articulates what WINNING MEANS!

Plainly he, B u s h/Ch e ney (et al)'s idea of winning in Iraq is permanent military installations.

Also unobstructed projection of power over the oil as well as continued exhorbitant profits for American and British oil companies

In the best interest of America ... Mc's cognitive faculties are legitimate questions & concerns! Anybody who asks the electorate to vote them into the office of POTUS and clearly demonstrates this obvious "lost in the wilderness" behavior, who clearly shows deminished memory ... not only should they be questioned ... ALL physical & mental health evaluations ought to be made plainly public!!

Why isn't MSM doing that from day one investigative reporting!!?

Well I don't think McCain remained "balanced" for long. There he is on TV right now in Denver accusing Sen. Obama of "legislating defeat." He lies about everything in that speech including the timeline of events in Iraq so SHAMELESSLY. I am disgusted.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:06 PM on 07/25/2008

The real argument is is President Bush put the United States and western civilization at risk of losing the "war" in Afghanistan to win the 2004 election by focusing the efforts upon Iraq, when the true terror threat was based in Afghanistan/Pakistan.

McCain's argument is just more of the McSame.
