John McCain has been forced to play the pip-squeak all week. The candidate has been trying to get one word in edgewise while Barack Obama has been swarmed by adoring officials and supporters overseas. Even when the McCain camp tried to drum up media criticism around Obama canceling a visit to US troops in Germany, they were silenced and made to look like the ones who had gaffed. They criticized Obama for canceling the trip, only to be told later that it was in fact a long-standing Pentagon policy that had forced the cancellation.

With the Olympics starting August 8, the McCain camp is now nervous it won't be able to get a word in before the Republican National Convention in September. The Washington Post suggests that fear will spur McCain to name a running mate very soon so his decision won't be overshadowed.

The Washington Post should beware of the McCain camp on this issue. Conservative columnist Robert Novak said they may have used him this week to drum up VP speculation. The ultimate reason for using Novak was of course to get some time in the spotlight!

Read below. McCain aides are indicating his decision will come very soon.

Anxious to counter the blanket media coverage that has followed Sen. Barack Obama on his overseas journey, Sen. John McCain is weighing whether to announce his running mate in the coming weeks before the spotlight shifts to China and the opening of the Olympic Games next month.

"He's in a position to make [the decision] on short notice if he wanted to," said Charles R. Black Jr., one of McCain's top political advisers.

Two top aides to the presumptive Republican nominee said the decision is likely to be announced after Obama returns from Europe on Sunday and before the Beijing Olympics begin Aug. 8. They said the campaign fears that unanticipated events coming out of China -- whether in the form of athletic accomplishments or human rights protests -- could deflect attention from the announcement if it were made during the Games.

The Olympics conclude the day before the Democratic nominating convention opens in Denver, and the GOP convention begins in Minneapolis-St. Paul just four days after the Democratic gathering ends.

As long as he doesn't show up at Intercourse PA, I think we're all okay.

All the grunting and the failing, it would be ugly.

Now where are our manners?
As soon as McDoddle learns to use his computer, we can invite him here. He'd never
feel rejected again as we talk about him all the time.

I'm interested in Internet2 discussions with Al Gore. I still think a fixed header will eventually restrict growth, even though it may be fifty years out. Why not just addressing information, with an xml segment. That way it could grow to accomodate any kind of data or transfer medium?

My suggestion was much simpler. I wanted him here to read the comments,
so he wouldn't feel so neglected. There you go again, talking about things
I don't understand. I can use my computer but I don't know what's under
the hood, that's why I'm having problems.

Have you found any help with your Mac? I started with Apple IIc's so I doubt I can be of much help. But do they have a restore to a previous state utility? Someone suggested you might do a complete reinstall as a last hope. I can almost guarantee it is software and not hardware related.

I downloaded the new Java Script for my Mac 10.4.11 yesterday and one
slight improvement is that I can now refresh again but the page click is
still fragile. Don't worry, I'm not giving up and I tried with Firefox, it's the
same problem. I'm the patient type, a Taurus, so I'll just plod along.
Thanks!

I'm sick of "Wargasm" and his National Security Expert nonsense ... the stuff he's been spouting about the "Surge" recently relies entirely on the ignorance of the American people and their lack of understanding of what is actually taking place in Iraq ... why the kid gloves for this guy?

Why no discussion of the 5 planes he knocked out of commission? Why no discussion of the Forrestal fire? Why no questions about his nickname "Songbird" from his POW days? Where are the interviews with former POWs that did time with him, are they all dead? What about the survivors of the Forrestal Fire? Come on, if he his such a hero ... where are his fans? Not the folks from the VFW and the American Legion who see him as a brother-in-arms ... I mean the men that interacted with him intimately and actually KNOW the guy ...

If McCain wants to have media focus there is a way to ablige him if some in the Liberal/Progressive/Left side were to grow a pair and clarify his record ...

NOT ONCE have I heard the Forrestal mentioned in the press ... why?

Well it's not equal to the Dukakis tank picture, but the campaign season is still young. I'd say first place so far is the green backdrop speech, second place - cheese section, runner up - brick phone.
