Mccain And Bush

New York Times:

President Bush and Senator John McCain have long been in agreement on major elements of American foreign policy, particularly in their approach to the "axis of evil" countries of Iran and North Korea, and their commitment to staying the course in Iraq.

But now the administration's agreement to consider a "time horizon" for troop withdrawals from Iraq has moved it, at least in the public perception, in the direction of the policies of Senator Barack Obama. That has thrown Mr. McCain on the political defensive in his opposition to a timed withdrawal, Republicans in the party's foreign party establishment say.

I had to chuckle a bit at this title:

#1 Bush isn't a conservative since he has just grown government big time.

#2 McCain is not a conserative either, more of an independent

"IRI's board of directors is chaired by U.S. Senator John McCain and includes former Secretary of State Lawrence S. Eagleburger, former Presidential Envoy to Iraq L. Paul Bremer, III and former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft, current members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, and individuals from the private sector with backgrounds in international relations, business and government."

I suspect McCain is cringing at the way his handlers have talked him into acting.

Clinton was more conservative then Bush. They are going to have to explain what being conservative means.

I always get the right and left mixed up because I'm right and I'm not a Republican, who the h##l gave out these names?

McCain = Empire building = endless wars - terror, drugs, resource grabs, and occupations of sovereign nations - unitary government and emasculation of Congress, the courts and the Constitution, resource sucking military and police, corporate welfare and continued weakening of social benefits and ever increasing prison population.

Obama is not perfect, but he will at least slow some of these trends and just maybe stop one or two. The question is whether we want a democracy. I will vote for Obama.

You are sadley right about McCain. He has the neocons on his side. Even more so than Bush, I believe. Screw the totalitarian, Republican McCain. I miss the conservatives of past - they had integrity for the Constitutional process, which Republicans have trashed in recent years. Barry Goldwater is rolling in his grave. I'll take my chances with Obama.
McCain reeks ... dissaster!

Since the NYT says so, it must be true.

Who cares which one is more conservative? They are both butt-heads.

More conservative, but less support from his party and the country. He is also more forgetful, older, and an adulterer. AND - he is all the G 0 P has to offer.

Remind me again......how many spending bills did Bush veto in his first term??
Compare that to Gerald Ford's short term as President.

Yeah...Bush is a "conservative" poster boy.

Buckley, Goldwater and Reagan replaced the traditional conservatism of the republican party (i.e., Hoover, Taft and Nixon) with the ideals of the John Birch Society and America is a shining city on a hill neoconservatism.

Readers too young to remember the heady days of Reagan Triumphant should thank your lucky stars that you live in a day when neoconservatism has been discredited. So many lives lost, so much time wasted, so much BS shouted, and for what? The republicans have never been about anything but corporate greed and empty promises.

Only Goldwater wised up, eventually, perhaps because he was a true eccentric "maverick." There's a reason Bob Dylan wrote in his memoirs that Goldwater was the most interesting politician of the sixties. I spent a weekend with Goldwater once back in the mid-seventies in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona. From all I had heard and knew of him, I was prepared to dislike him. He turned out to be a pretty humorous gentleman, who was a wiz at Scrabble and who knew his way around a scotch bottle. As much as I despised his politics, and his connections with the Bonanno crime family, I liked him as a person. I doubt I could feel the same way about Senator McCain.

I believe Hitler was nice to his dog.

If you hate the politics, hate the person.
