Update: It's been revealed that LaBoeuf's passenger in the accident was Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas, reports Us Weekly:

Actor Shia LaBeouf was at the Troubadour club watching the Lemon Son band on Santa Monica Blvd in L.A. Saturday night, a source tells Usmagazine.com.

"He was dancing around and acting really crazy," the source tells Us. "He kept doing shots of whiskey.

"He stayed until the band was done and then stumbled out of the club by himself," the witness reported.

LaBeouf's Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas, 23, was a passenger in his truck when the accident occurred, a second source tells Us.

Shia LaBoeuf's rep has released a statement:

"Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008," said Melissa Kates in the statement issued Sunday evening. "Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time. "

LOS ANGELES — Shia LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after an early morning wreck in which the "Indiana Jones" star injured his hand and knee, authorities said.

LaBeouf was trying to make a left turn at a West Hollywood intersection around 3 a.m. when his pickup collided with another vehicle, rolling the truck over, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Wolf said.

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said.

Wolf said LaBeouf was booked then released for misdemeanor DUI. The 22-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was being treated for injuries to his left hand and a knee, as well as a minor head injury, Wolf said.

A woman passenger in LaBeouf's truck and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured. Wolf did not know the identities of the woman or the other driver.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Wolf said. Two attorneys listed for LaBeouf did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Sunday.

Melissa Kates, a publicist for the actor, said LaBeouf underwent hand surgery and plans to return to work within a month. She declined further comment.

The accident occurred when LaBeouf, who was headed northbound on La Brea Avenue, tried to turn onto Fountain Avenue, Wolf said. The intersection is the location of "High Voltage," the tattoo parlor where the TLC reality show "LA Ink" is filmed.

LaBeouf starred in last year's summer smash hit "Transformers," and this year appears opposite Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

LaBeouf has had previous brushes with the law, but until now they'd been relatively harmless _ to the degree that they only served to reinforce his image as a Hollywood good guy with an edge.

A drunken confrontation with guards at a Walgreens in Chicago late last year led to misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. Arresting police in that incident noted that LaBeouf was "very courteous and polite," and the charge was dropped because the drug store didn't want to pursue the matter.

In a lighthearted retelling of the incident to David Letterman on the "Late Show," LaBeouf said: "Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it's just as bad."

LaBeouf was separately cited in February for smoking where he shouldn't in Burbank, but a judge later dismissed the charge.

Associated Press writer Shaya Tayefe Mohajer contributed to this story.

He's like George Clooney - more talented at self-promotion than acting ability. I hate those types who try to make the rest of us THINK they are famous by perpetual and endless publicity-seeking.

Amen to that.

Ahemm, Clooney is a terrific actor and performer -- and he has substance to him in the work he chooses to do with his fame and wealth. You don't hear too much about Clooney in the press for stuff like this, if at all.

((( "Prosecutors dropped charges because Walgreens Co. and a security company indicated they didn't want to continue the case." )))

Too bad. Had they pursued the case like they probably would have had it been anyone else, this accident might never have happened.

Just wondering. Let's say someone is buzzed or drunk and driving and in an accident caused by another driver who hasn't been drinking -- what does that mean?

At a minimum, it's DUI.

Lousy actor, lousy driver, lousy drinker.

Get lost, kid.

If I had gone on a drunken tirade in Walgreens, they definitely would have pursued a case against me. Apparently Walgreens only wants to hold "regular" people accountable. By not pursuing the case against LeBeouf, it makes him think he can get away with anything.

Shia is a jerk. Anyone with a hair weave like that
where the top of his head is either cropped or
put in shadow at the age of 22 really has
to be related to someone or have access
to some very exotic plants or both.

It's his attitude. I knew he was an irresponsible pr*ck when he joked about his Chicago Walgreens embarrassment. As--I suppose--something of a matinee idol, he had an ideal platform on Letterman to address the continuing scourge of alcohol abuse in our society and educate his fan base. Not as funny or entertaining or "aren't I cute" to do that. Whenever anyone makes fun of how drunk they got it isn't funny, whether you're being a public nusiance in a store or being a public menace in a car.

LAPD, L.A. County Sheriff's, and the District Attorney's office have got to get their collective acts together. Releasing celebrity mugshots to the media glorifies this behavior.

I like his work, but dude needs to get help now before he kills someone or himself. Drunk driving is unforgivable.

Shia is a jerk. Anyone who drives drunk is punk and needs some serious jail time.

I like Shia LaBeouf's work and all, but this guy might need to be punished by the law this time around. He should not be treated special yet again because of who he is. He hurt another driver because he was drunk. Imagine if that driver were any of us?

This guy also needs some straightening out now before this becomes a long, unterrupted pattern enabled by a system that gives wrist-slaps to celebrities for offenses that the rest of us would get nailed a lot harder for.

Shia LaBeouf, you got lucky and rose from obscurity to a certain level of fame--not yet very high. But there are thousands of talented young men who can fill your shoes without inflicting on us the miserable theatrics of your overblown life. Stand down and get some help. We pay you to act, not to parade your miserable real self. You are 100 percent replaceable by any of the thousands of young actors you passed on the way up and whom you'll pass again on the way down. Very soon, at this rate.
