The Cedar Rapids Gazette:

Police here arrested four Iowans Friday after they attempted a citizen's arrest of former White House adviser Karl Rove, who was in Des Moines to speak at a fundraiser.

Retired Methodist minister Rev. Chet Guinn, 80, and three Des Moines Catholic Workers, Edward Bloomer, 61, Kirk Brown, 25 and Mona Shaw, 57, who lives in Iowa City, were cited for trespassing and released, according to a news release.

Citing the Iowa Code, which allows citizen's arrests, the four accused Rove of election fraud; conspiracy to commit offense or to defraud the United States in the time before the Iraq war; and treason, sedition and subversive activities for fraudulent acts leading to the deaths of 300,000 Iraqi civilians and 4,000 U.S. Military personnel, according to their arrest complaint.

For anyone contemplating something like this, be very careful how you go about it. The penalties for kidnapping can be pretty harsh, to say the least, and folks like Rove have some high-powered lawyers (often paid for by the taxpayer). But, good luck!

Keep up the good work, Reverand & friends! At least you tried, most in Congress will not lift a finger!

While most Iowa citizens make me proud to be an American, the Iowa police are not doing so. Arresting people for exercising their patriotic duty under state law? How terrible. The police need to be given civics classes before being allowed another paycheck.

Civics classes? I'd be happy if they just wouldn't harass and beat up on their fellow Iowans who are African-American, Chicano, or non-conformists.

The people were arrested for tresspassing. They had no basis to arrest Rove for anything. You need to have charges first. No one around here seems to understand that. Charge him with something, and then arrest him. If you have no charges then just post here or write nasty letters to his employers.

Your response is nonsense. You charge the criminal at the time of the citizens' arrest. You've been listening to Joe Arpaio too long, and/or Andrew Thomas. The police were protecting a felon, at the expense of not only the alleged "trespassers" (who were charged at the time of arrest, BTW) but also the Constitution, rule of law, probably Iowa statutes re: felonies, etc.

I hate to sound like a "nit picker" and an "old fogey," but why is it that folks nowadays seem to be egregiously negligent about placing apostrophes in words that actually REQUIRE them? (e.g. cant instead of can't, Roves instead of Rove's, citizens instead of citizen's, lets instead of let's...) Have we become that LAZY or are people just that uninformed, let us say?

Way to go Iowa.
Karl Rove can only postpone the inevidable for so long. He'll be in a cell eventually.

I apologize to all Iowans for having made fun of your perfect lawns and boring state in the past.

You have my respect and admiration. Keep up the good work. Maybe other states will follow your lead.

I agree. Kudos all around.

I think the Iowans did a fine job of gently ejecting the heckling moonbats from the hall before they became a danger to themselves and others.

these iowans should be commended. karl rove has plunged this country so low it's a wonder there's not more doing this sort of thing. rove should NOT be profiting from putting this country to the depths it is in right now.
