Keira Knightley Refuses Breast Enhancement For "The Dutchess"

Keira Knightley has refused to allow any enhancement of her cleavage on publicity photos for her upcoming movie, "The Duchess," Britain's Daily Mail reports.

Studio heads reportedly want to enlarge Knightley's bosom in the photos, but the actress, 23, put her foot down.

I admire her stand on this, but the girl is painfully thin--her clavicles are hard to look at. But anorexia is a whole other thing. Some people just have that sort of metabolism and have to make a concerted effort to put and keep on weight.

Keira, good for taking such a stand. However, I blame the movie and marketing industries for making our kids worship other human beings (celebrities) and not believe in themselves.

If you want a woman with boobs, get one with boobs. Don't get something else and make him/her into something else. I believe there are several actresses who meets all their criteria for the character in question.

The question isn't how big her breasts should be. It's whether the ad should be selling something the movie doesn't deliver. If she's not artificially enlarged in the movie she shouldn't be in the ad.

But... but... she is not being hired to "be herself." She is being hired to play a role. We aren't talking about a touch-up of a photo of Keira Knightley on a red carpet somewhere. We are talking about touching up a photo The Duchess of Langeais. Wearing "stunt boobs" is nothing more than costuming.

She apparently has the clout to be able to insist on it, but it is an actor making something about her that shouldn't necessarily be about her.

She's beautiful the way she is. It's great that she's doing this. Maybe some girls will take notice and love their body the way it is.

I think it's great that popular media and entertainment has come around to appreciating women with natural curves and despite the popularity of cosmetic surgery women are accepting their bodies. Unfortunately this wider acceptance of the natural female form also has it's drawbacks as well. For example, large women who think they can pull off the "belly shirts" and low waist jeans resutling in what is now known as "muffin tops".
Also consider the double standard now in popular media for men and women. Women are allowed to be more natural and even have a little bit of fat and still be considered sexy. Look at magazine covers (not Cosmo though!) and you will see more natural women on the covers. Men, however, are expected to have six pack abs, sculptured pecs, carved facial features with high cheek bones and be at least 6 feet tall to be considered sexy/desir­able/marke­table. Don't believe me? Next time you're at the grocery store or at a newsstand, take all the magazines with photos of women and put them on one row with the all the covers showing and then put all the magazines with photos of men on the cover and line them up on the shelf below and compare the bodies. See how many of the women are allowed to be more natural and see the types of bodies the men have.
