CHICAGO — Barack Obama, back in his home town after a tour of Afghanistan, the Middle East and Europe, saw a doctor at the University of Chicago Medical Center on Sunday night to deal with a sore hip.

"His hip has been sore from basketball for a few weeks, so he's going to see an orthopedic doctor," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

As he left the hospital, Obama told reporters: "I had small X-rays. Everything's OK. I think I'm going to be good in about a week."

Obama is a lifelong basketball player, and he squeezes in a game every now and then on the campaign trail. At one stop during his overseas trip, he shot baskets with U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

He played basketball with the troops in Kuwait, not Afghanistan, didn't he? If we leave open the door of inaccuracies, McCain will come back with an ad saying Obama played basketball with Hitler.

Somehow I see a different medical diagnosis were the words hip, doctor and Presidential candidate being used to describe the Republican guy and his morning.

Wait just a second! In the last 'graf it says he played b-ball with "U.S. troops in Afghanistan."

Didn't the presumptive Republic candidate say that he played b-ball INSTEAD of visiting the troops?

This can't be!!! Does this mean the presumptive candidate LIED? I am shocked, shocked.

"Sore basketball hip"?

He has a basketball for a hip? Who wrote this ridiculous headline?

(Apologies in advance for the cheap pun).

It's one thing to be "the hip candidate" and another to be the "injured hip candidate."

And there has to be some concern that Barack's newfound international friends may desert him if, due to his injury, he can no longer consistently "drain the three."

Sounds like a strained hip flexor, fairly common among people of all ages, including athletes and side/pretzel sleepers. I suffered from it for a few weeks; annoyingly painful, and standing for prolonged periods, shifting your weight back and forth onto one leg, (I'm an OR nurse) makes it worse. Between all of the standing O does, and the basketball, he's a prime candidate. Usually clears up fairly quickly with the "right" type of stretching exercise, rest.

Keep hoopin' Barack! There's no reason you can't play into your 60's. My Tuesday night game has guys from their early 30's up to 61.

As a fellow b-baller - this is why you go to the doctor. To stay fit for the court.

axelrod is brilliant. i love that guy.

obama campaign takes mcsurge's big fat lie about senator obama playing basketball at the gym last week in germany, and wipes out the entire subconscious frame in voter's minds with a quick visit with his doc about that old basketball injury. result = basketball bruiser with troops feels personalized, and result 2 = mccain is old doddering fool contrasted by vigorous middle-aged guy who has a pain in the butt

He's a great basketball player.

Now McCain, I hear who can do a mean sky hook with his right arm?

Sounds like someone needs to remember they are 46 not 26 even though they may look 26.

At least it's not skin cancer or another life threatening form of cancer. Someone else's VP choice might be the most important decision of their campaign.
