Here's the trailer for "W.", the upcoming Oliver Stone movie based on the life of President George W. Bush. Josh Brolin plays Bush, Elizabeth Banks plays his wife Laura, and Richard Dreyfuss plays Vice President Dick Cheney. Best of all, Rob Corddry plays former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer. The movie is slate for release on October 17.

Thank heavens for the artistic courage of Hollywood to make a film critical of the president EIGHT BLOODY YEARS TOO LATE. It's not like there were any surprises here, when he was Governor of Texas and happily executing the mentally ill and the innocent and privatizing anything he could get his cocaine-smeared hands on.

But show business looked at the bottom line and made Chicago. Back when America needed some dissent, Hollywood was churning out Black Hawk Down and Pearl Harbor and busting Michael Moore's chops. Now, too late to make a difference, come limping all the depressing Rendition, Valley of Elah, Lions for Lambs, Stop Loss, and so on. Not only is it too late to make a difference, but these movies are coming too late for the public to care. Everyone hates Bush now so we're over it.

I predict Oliver Stone's W will be about as widely watched as Corky Romano. Remember it? Of course you don't.

Next time, get a spine earlier.

I'm new to Huffington Post but your post on the Bush film, "W", is superb...my sentiments exactly. My sails have been so deflated, particularly since Kerry's loss in '04, that I can barely muster up the enthusiasm to read articles in my weekly subscription to The Nation, et al.

Stone said the film isn't intended to proselytize any particular political viewpoint; it's simply his portrait of the man vis a vis his earlier film on Nixon. With that in mind, the timing is appropriate and shrewd because it coincides with the end of the Bush era.

"But show business looked at the bottom line and made Chicago."

Yes, the audacity of businesses looking at the bottom line! I don't even want to imagine what they'll think of next. Probably something equally outrageous like selling their product for a profit!

Is this supposed to make some sort of difference in anything? I agree--too late, for starters. Anyone who would believe what it has to say already knows the facts and has known them for years, while all the people who would never believe it are just going to remain that way---blissfully ignorant. Also, I'm not sure that it is a good idea to present a biographical piece about someone so close in time to the actual events. Smacks of TV exploitation. Most times a few years are required to filter out the more sensationalist aspects of a life and allow concentration on that which is provable and more germane to the basic nature of the subject. In the end the fact that G. Bush used cocaine will turn out to be a whole lot less relevant to world history than some of his more glaring deficiencies as a person and as a world leader.

Seems like the right is still in denial about its connection with W as it pushes McCain who is willing to adopt many W policies. It's either that they are in denial about the wrongness of this administration or they think McCain is different. If they are in denial, this movie might help. If they think McCain is different, portraying W as an idiot in October will serve to distance him from McCain.

My impressions: I love the casting! It's outstanding! And I love the utter irony of the song "What a Wonderful World", when in fact W. & co. have helped turn the world into a much more dangerous and miserable place. I'm intrigued by what Stone will do. He's a bit of a loose canon; I will say that unless the film portrays W. as the worst chief executive in history, it will be pure fiction.

Most people interviewed on CNN would watch this movie. Why? A kid said "it is a comedy, and I love comedies."

Looks quite good. And what a cast!

Seeing someone who was in the class behind mine in grad school get second billing (above some very big names) is just plain weird though. Weird in a good way. You go Liz!

I hope you state it as an understatement.

This movie would show why it was a stupid mistake to vote for Bush twice.

Huff Post asks us what we think to the movie from watching this trailer? What on earth can you predict about an entire movie from a ridiculously vague and obscure trailer? There isn't enough in this snippet for me to even discern the "plot line", albeit we know how it ends...

Don't forget, though, Ollie Stone makes ridiculously vague and obscure movies (one of the reasons he's one of my fave directors) so the trailer is actually quite informative in a vague and obscure way.

Dam, I confused myself with that one.

Thank goodness for vague trailers. Most of the time these days, it's not necessary to even watch the film as the entire plot, sequence of events, denouement, and resolution are all given to you in the trailer. Great timing on the release. I can't wait for the GOP to be buried for a little while.

No, it's nice timing. Great timing would have been around this time four years ago. It's kind of pointless now when we're actually getting rid of him.

W is very concerned about his "legacy." The little twerp is in love with himself. Maybe this movie will take him down a peg or two. It sure won't help his standing in history......and I say GREAT!!!!!

Has anyone else wondered that maybe Stone does these movies because they are bread and butter for him, paid for with your tax dollars through the CIA? I don't think the recent movies that he has done on 9/11 for instance were at all along the lines of the real 9/11 truth movement, but instead seemed to be totally behind the government BS.

What on earth is the point of this movie. W. is widely reviled and Oliver Stone has to be THE worst film maker alive. Stupid topic. Bad director. Why would I possibly want to see this POS?

I do.

Stone served in Vietnam and made Platoon, and Born on the 4th of July. Then made Wall Street, The Doors, Any Given Sunday, and Natural Born Killers to name a few.

Excellent topic.
Excellent director

I could have done without Natural Born Killers, and he trashed Morrison unfairly. He portrayed Morrison as being largely influenced by Joseph Cambell's the power of Myth, and that book didn't even come out until the 80s. Long after Jimbo was dead.

I guess you'd rather see that wonderfully historically accurate movie about 9/11 that describes how the plane "headed for the White House" was heroically commanndeered by passengers and, after a brief scuffle, crashed in Pennsylvania. Hahahaha. People love being lied to.

Unless the movie has a "happy ending" showing GW Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, and Gonzalez all handcuffed in their bright orange coveralls, on their way to a very long term jail sentence, I don't see why I would spend a dime to revisit the greedy caracters of the worst bunch of conservative politicians in US history. To view that film would otherwise be considered as being "torture" and the USA as we all know is against torture.
