Voight

Jon Voight accused Barack Obama of "sowing socialist seeds in young people" for an op-ed published in the Washington Times on Monday.

Writing on behalf of "we, as parents," Voight blamed the Democrats for waging a propaganda campaign against America's youth and insisted Obama is weak on terror.

Here are some excerpts:

On Obama's ties to "militant white and black people":

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

On Obama's God-like stature:

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

On 1960s "hysteria":

The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds. I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement. The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam. Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.

On Obama's homeland security credentials:

There's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.

Voight closes by warning Obama plans to usher in a "socialist era":

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

Jon Voight used to be a really decent actor. Midnight Cowboy and Coming Home were great and his acting was phenomenal. Since he's closed his mind up tight, he's lost not only his common sense, but all his talent.

must have been out with Steven Baldwin, kinda like teaming up with Ratso Rizzo again, eh? I bet Laura S will welcome you on soon, and you can hope that brings in a few scripts.

You're welcome to your opinion, but hell, to invoke parenthood when you've pulled the stunts you have to get your daughters attention makes me not care. see ya, hustler

Well Jon, you have a right to an opinion just like the rest of us.
How does willingness to start another war with the deficit already
9 trillion, and two "wars" already under way, make the US so much
safer? How does that prop an economy that everyone but Bush and
the economists, know is in recession? How exactly do we "win" the war
on terror? Obama is an unknown commodity as President, but I
prefer taking a chance to going through WW III and a depression.

Who knew Voight was such a reactionary. No wonder his daughter shuns him (although there might be additional reasons).

I'll take Socialism over our current Fascism any day. Republican's like Voight depend on the greedy American lifestyle that feels entitled to using 25% of the World's engery resources when we are just a small fraction of the World's population. An entire society with an entitlement mindset MUST fear any form of government that gives citizens power over their government.

While I'm not advocating for Socialism it would be nice if we had something resembling a Democratic Republic instead of a Monarchy or Fascist state. This isn't opion, just fact based on the Bush Administration's disdain for the Constitution. If Democrats don't bury the theory of the "unitary executive" I challange anyone to suggest we have the government most American's think we do.

In the 1950s, it was the age of McCarthyism, and the scourge of communism
Today its the scourge of 'Islamic extremism', so John McCain will exploit this situation, to degrade the Democratic challenger Barack Obama
Fear and paranoia will always triumph in the end.

Just when you think you've heard it all. The Vietnam era hysteria???? Excuse me but if my memory serves me correctly, some citizens of this country of this were kind of upset because our young men and women were dying in a foreign country for no apparent reason, and when it was all said and done, the American death toll was 50 thousand, and that number did not include those that died and are dying slowly from agent orange and other combat related diseases, including my uncle who came back from Vietnam on a stretcher with a mysterious fungus in his chest and who was sickly until he died in his early 50's. We had no business in Vietnam. Protesters saved lives by forcing the people in power to bring our men and women back home. What an dumb idiot, and that's an understatement. I guess in voight's opinion the civil rights movement was civil rights era hysteria. voight was never a good actor, he was just a pretty face when he was young. Now he's got nothing.

I've never been able to stomach the sight of Jon Voight since he sullied the good name of Peter Phelps in the first Tom Cruise bastardization of Mission Impossible. Mr. Phelps would never betray his country or the IMF! I knew from that moment on that there was something very wrong with the man - this just confirms it. How dare you, sir!
