Jon Voight accused Barack Obama of "sowing socialist seeds in young people" for an op-ed published in the Washington Times on Monday.

Writing on behalf of "we, as parents," Voight blamed the Democrats for waging a propaganda campaign against America's youth and insisted Obama is weak on terror.

Here are some excerpts:

On Obama's ties to "militant white and black people":

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

On Obama's God-like stature:

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

On 1960s "hysteria":

The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds. I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement. The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam. Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.

On Obama's homeland security credentials:

There's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.

Voight closes by warning Obama plans to usher in a "socialist era":

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

Falls short in every way? Sounds like Voight's describing the last 20 years of his film career.

Being stupid is not a qualification for being an actor - though it apparently helps. Celebrities have as much right to speak their mind as any other citizen. IF Oil Companies can form our energy policy with Dick Cheney, then actors can make political commentary.

Fortunately, Jon Voight's rather poor intellectual reputation precedes him. He is right up there with other noted Republican strategist and mouthpiece - Bo Derek.

I am hungry for another republican gay sex scandal. It's been months.

Yes, well we all take our marching orders from Angelina's absentee father now don't we. Ignorance is bliss, huh?

Voight's arguments are irrational, his motives unfathomable, and his credentials non-existent. Being a good actor doesn't make you an intelligent political analyst any more than working for a news magazine qualifies you as an actor. And John Voight is in no position to preach to anyone about parenting or patriotism.

Is that it? That's all you have to say? These are truly the most out of sync times in human history. That anyone could post the words:

All true. Thanks Mr. Voight.

G*d bless you and yours, you are gonna need it. Beam me up, Scottie, PLEASE!

If Voight thinks Iran is a threat to the US, he has been watching way too much Fox News.

Even if Iran gets their hands on some nukes, it would be suicidal for them to use them on us or give them to terrorists who do since we have 10,000.

Anyone old enough to remember the Cold War should know this, but apparently Voight is more soft-headed than the kids he criticizes in his column.

I must conclude thet "yurbud" is a teenager. Now, that's not a bad thing. In fact it is a good thing, since anyone over 30 yrs old might understand the nature of a totoleran Islamic state like Iran, and the havoc they can cause for anyone who does not follow their fundamentalist principles. They would be happy to supply a terrorist cell with a dirty bomb with little fear of US reprisals. In a few words, Iran is a more dangerous regeim than North Korea. You see North Korea's leader is NOT willing to die for his cause whereas the Iranians are. Death to a North Korean is final....to a fundamentalist Islamic person, death is eternity. Iran is dangerous!

This guy is certifiable. Obama encourages young people to get involved and be responsible and he is an incredible role model for this. I think that Voight insults young people by insinuating that they are mindless individuals ripe for programming. He certainly insults those of us from the Viet Nam era. We did not create that war but we did try to end it, just as many of us try to end this war. Both wars were unjustified senseless attacks on innocent people. It is interesting that people like Voight seem to think that walking away is bad but cannot see that engaging in the war in the first place was criminal.

I'm not saying I'm a Socialist or that Obama is a Socialist or that Democrats are Socialists but why hasn't anyone asked the Republicans what exactly is so "evil" about Socialism or what will necessarily make this country "weak" if it is institutionalized? If someone asked them that question their stammering will prove that they are the ones who have been indoctrinated by propaganda. Republicans don't have thoughts, they have talking points!

Jon Voight is a fine actor (think "The Odessa File", "Deliverance", "Midnight Cowboy"). That said, if he wants to speak politics, what's wrong with that? Sean Penn, Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda have spouted their crap, too.

I'm sick of Hollywood imposing their fascist neocon agenda on us.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:27 PM on 07/30/2008

Has Mr. Voight lost his mind? It is on the Neocons' watch that we were attacked by terrorists, and it is under this pro-business Administration that the economy has tanked! Ronald Reagan was elected by voters who feared that minorities and women had attained too much, and that ANY change was preferable to that. Senator Obama offers us the probability that new and more workable ideas might just right our Ship of State. Get over your fear of Socialism, because we very nearly were co-opted by Fascists. Any fear of angry blacks just betrays an innate prejudice.
