Voight

Jon Voight accused Barack Obama of "sowing socialist seeds in young people" for an op-ed published in the Washington Times on Monday.

Writing on behalf of "we, as parents," Voight blamed the Democrats for waging a propaganda campaign against America's youth and insisted Obama is weak on terror.

Here are some excerpts:

On Obama's ties to "militant white and black people":

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

On Obama's God-like stature:

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

On 1960s "hysteria":

The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds. I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement. The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam. Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.

On Obama's homeland security credentials:

There's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.

Voight closes by warning Obama plans to usher in a "socialist era":

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

Now I understand ... this explains why Angelina will have nothing to do with him.

I'm so happy that his characters get killed in almost every movie I've seen him in.

I never knew he was this dumb. I mean, this is stunningly, uniquely stupid even among all the usual rightwing chatter.

Go ahead, attack the man and not the message. Tease apart his argument. What do you see?

Political advice from John Voight is like spiritual advice from Tom Cruise -- both of them not only drink the koolaid, they bathe in it. What's next, ethics guidance from Ted Stevens? Intellectual mentoring from Dan Quayle?

Wonder what his daughter would say about his comments? Probably doesn't help their relationship much. Sad that people get caught up in these rigid, cliche kinds of concerns that incite visions of monsters, such as "Oh no, socialism," and turn out to be Mr. Rogers when he wakes up, like, oh okay, "public schools, road repair, firemen, police, judges, a paid army and many other things we would find it hard to live without." Hats off to pmag88, I think you hit the nail on the head with that comment.

Glad someone in Hollywood has enough courage to speak out against Obama. He may ruin this country far worse than Bush.

Contrary to what many are posting here -- Voigt HAS been in some very good movies.

Nevertheless, every cell in his body is as wrong as it can be. If guilt by association was actually true -- I'd be a foaming-at-the-mouth right winger.

But it isn't true, we each choose to run with whatever pack we choose. That he has chosen the craven fear-mongering way is really, really sad.

*HAS been* are the operative words here.

Why so serious, Jon Voigt? It's not Obama's fault you are seen as a B actor with a daughter that wouldn't even take your name because you are a shame of a human being. You and Stephen Baldwin can shut up now. Grown-ups are talking.

My my Obama is a "closet socialist". Run for cover. But give a big cheer for the "openly corporate socialists" like those bankers that have been bailed out with our tax dollars and to the oil executives whose companies have received billions of tax payer dollars in subsidies to add to their tens of billions in profits.

Economic justice? How awful. Squeeze the middle class some more maybe out of existence. We will become a banana republic yet.

Bottom line: Voight should stick to acting where he is very good. His article was total nonsense.

Haha! A lot of ripping Jon Voight, but not too many rebuttals on what he's actually saying.

Ever heard the phrase "Don't kill the messenger"? Voight wins this debate.

Liberals never have logical rebuttals, just emotional ones.
