The Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" couldn't be getting better free PR.

"American Idol" host and radio superstar Ryan Seacrest announced on his radio show Monday that he was bit by a shark while in Mexico. Listen:

Page Six reports that Seacrest took the shark bite in stride and just gave himself some aspirin:

Ryan Seacrest was almost shark bait. The "American Idol" host was swimming in the Pacific Ocean in front of LG Villa Cabo in Mexico on Sunday when a sand shark swam by and chomped his toe. "He didn't know what it was for a minute - he thought it was a stick," said one spy. "He had no time to be scared. He saw it swim away, he got out, took aspirin and called it a day."

E! reports that Seacrest is still in pain from the bite, which occurred on Sunday:

"I was bitten by a shark," recalls Ryan. "It swam up to me, and it took a bite, and then he left."

According to Ryan, the predator was the size of a cat and the incident took place offshore in water about 4 feet deep--with the shark leaving behind "three holes" in his toe.

"Don't let me fool you by my unbelievably comfortable state of being on the air right now, because I'm in pain."

Unreported addendum: The shark's reaction, upon discovering that it had the popular TV host in its mouth ...

[spit!] "Seacrest! Out!"

Too bad it was not a great white with an appetite. The US would be better off if another of these stupid entertainment related talking heads would be taken out. All they do is thrive off the talents of others; witness 'American Idol'.

Makes for some publicity but probably not even a shark.

Note to posters, ther's probably alot of reasons to not like this guy but the little jabs to his possiblile sexual preference is uncalled for. Funny it's not.

Not surprising. American Idol jumped the shark some time back.

To the headline writer, that would be:

"Ryan Seacrest bitten by a shark in Mexico."

I have never been bitten in my Mexico. Is that located near any vital organs?

I'm no fan of this guy, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone...it must've hurt "like the Dickens"...Anyway, sharks can usually tell from one bite if the energy expended is worth the fat amount in their meal...humans usually aren't worth the energy...seals and so forth get more bang for the buck.
None of these puns are intended: - )

Poor Ryan. I hope this whole experience didn't mess up his hair.

Sharks don't really like to eat people. It's often thought to be a case of mistaken identity when they attack people. I mean, when you see photos of people with tooth marks across their torso, it's generally because the shark changed its mind. If the shark had a person in the water and in its mouth, it isn't likely that the person could just 'get away.'

considering this is great publicity for Shark Week, I'd need to see a picture of the injury before I'll believe it.
