Katie Couric The View

Katie Couric appeared on "The View" Wednesday morning and reiterated her position that she has "no plans" to leave CBS News after the election — and she revealed an interesting strategy for coping with bad press: turning to Sex and the City.

"I'm enjoying what I'm doing now," Couric told the ladies. "I really like the people I'm working with."

When pressed on whether she would stay through the end of her contract (which expires in 2011), Couric said, "We'll see. You know. We'll see. You have to constantly assess the situation. I'm enjoying it. I think our show is really strong. We just won an Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast."

Couric then explained how she has dealt with the negative press surrounding her possible departure and her broadcast's sluggish ratings — specifically how she handles that with her daughters (Carrie, 12, and Ellie, 17):

Carrie once said, when I was kind of bummed out about something somebody had written that was really nasty and had nothing do do with my abilities or my journalistic abilities...she said, "Mom, remember what Samantha said in Sex and the City: If I listened to what every bitch in New York City said about me, I'd never leave the house."

Previously: Katie Couric admits, "I'm a pathetic fan... I go to HBO on Demand, go to Sex and the City, and I watch each episode 20 times."

Really klassy with a K, Katie.

What a shame they didn't ask you about the little incident where your interview with McCain was doctored to make him sound marginally more intelligent.

That's what should be the first question ALWAYS asked of Katie!
News - fair and balanced! And if it weren't her behind it - come forth
with a bold statement - get yourself fired - and get back on track girl cause
I think you have a lot of great stuff to give!!!!

Katie, Katie, Katie. Now that you're back in shape you're getting kind of cocky. You ain't Sherri Shepherd, so slow your roll.

I remember when Couric was the next big thing on the Today Show after Jane Pauley and Deborah Norville were gone. Everyone loved her because she was so "perky." The word perky, when applied to professionals, hardly leads to anything good. Even less so, a "television journalist." But Couric's squeaky-clean image kept her on the air for years.

Now she finds she can't fill Dan Rather's shoes and goes on "The View" to whine about it? Nice choice of dress, by the way. Between this, and the fact that she watches "Sex and the City" with her underage kid, it's no wonder that her "perky stage" has long since lapsed into oblivion.

Someone get Couric a ticket to Connie Chung-ville already, please.

So true, things seem to depreciate. Rather couldn't fill Cronkite's shoes and Katie can't fill Rather's just like how she failed to fill the shoes of that truly adorable and class act, Jane Pauley.

The Golden Age of Network News is truly dead with this gutter-talking enabler for McCain's lies and stupidity about world events.

You'd never leave the house and the world would be a better place.

Maybe, as a reporter, Katie Couric should spend more time studying the history of American foreign policy or the cause and effect of deregulation in the financial, energy, and lobbying sector and its relation to revolving door representatives in congress, rather than watching every episode of Sex And The City reruns 20 TIMES a piece?

If it's a Sex and The City worldview she's filtering through her work, we're doomed, and so goes the dumbing down of America.

Ya, like all those other talking heads that have "elavated" us with Anna Nicole Smith, Paris Hilton and poll results of every second of every hour. But SHE is more clearly to blame.

uhh, well the article is about her. if it was about the other dolts like gibson or bryant, there'd be people on the thread complaining about them too.

OH, ONE LAST COMMENT, KATIE YOU WOULD DO FAR BETTER REPORTING THE NEWS THAN TRYING TO BE THE NEWS

Remember the flap over her "journal" or notebook or whatever they called it. It was supposed to be subjects in her own words, and some flacky had cribbed someone else's article verbatim for it? What a loser.

She's neither reporting nor parenting. Only the ignorant considers her a role model.
A bad influence to society. That's what's wrong with America.

There was a scene in "Broadcast News" where William Hurt, a shallow but handsome anchor, edits in a reaction shot of a tear streaming down his cheek during an interview. Holly Hunter's character calls him on the deception.

"Network" and "Broadcast News" ingeniously predicted just how callow and self serving the media was to become. No fiction necessary. We are living in the broadcast funhouse.

Hey Katie, We are all scratching our heads over you babe, your about the most obstinate news person on TV. The Same question 3x, what didn't you understand!

Katie gets too much criticism for a grossly overpaid newsreader. Let her read her Teleprompter and collect her money. Lara Logan is a journalist. Katie reads the news.

I have no particular love for Couric - I prefer the print media and BBC whenever possible - but most of the complaints that people here are saying about her... Aren't they just complaints about the media in general? It's probably a good idea not to use her as a scapegoat when, really, everyone's responsible.

Its kinda sad she's so thin skinned. Katie Couric was a media darling for decades, she can't seem to handle criticism.

WHY does the HuffPost always do articles about her, anyway? Is she something "special," or something? I don't think so! She is not really a "journalist." She was a "cutsie-pie" thing on the "Today Show," who was hired to play a "journalist" by the CBS News Department, which is now combined with the CBS Entertainment Division. That says it all! News is not serious to them anymore, like it was in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. News has gone to the "dogs," on CBS, and Katie is only one of the "Poodles!"

Don't you get it? Katie was supposed to lead this nation! Katie was supposed to rise above the current level of mediocre news reporting! How dare she be like so many other useless talking heads? (Hmmm...I wonder who will lead their show with the latest POLL tonight)... Katie carried the "symbol of America" on her shoulders and we had such high hopes and dreams for her....All those male "talking heads" are clearly fulfilling their role as "nation leaders", why can't she?
