The new McCain ad featuring Paris Hilton and Britney Spears has roiled the 2008 campaign. In an unexpected twist, it turns out that Paris' father is on the record as an enthusiastic supporter of Sen. McCain:

Contributors to McCain's campaign for the Republican presidential nomination included Rick Hilton. In fact, Hilton was so enthusiastic about his candidate of choice that, The Times' Tina Daunt reports, federal records show he donated twice as much as the law allows (the campaign returned the excess).

Now, of course, daughter Paris Hilton is the costar (along with Britney Spears) in a controversial new McCain ad aimed at ridiculing Barack Obama.

It also seems that the eldest Hilton, William Barron Hilton (who has also contributed money to McCain), is furious with ad, according to conservative blogger and McCain supporter Martin Eisenstadt:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems that the new McCain ad criticizing Obama for being a celebrity has ruffled some unintended feathers. I, for one, quite liked the ad, but I hear whispers from the inner campaign staff that the phone was burning off the hook today with calls from Paris Hilton's grandfather, William Barron Hilton (co-chair of the Hilton Hotel empire), furious that the McCain ad drew an unflattering comparison between Obama and his own granddaughter...

...Apparently, the elder Hiltons had breathed a sigh of relief that Paris was starting to get her act together since hitting rock bottom with her stay in jail last year, when all of a sudden the McCain ad compares her unfavorably to Britney Spears and Barack Obama.

Who would have thought presidential politics would be what dragged Paris back into the spotlight.

You get what you pay for Mr. Hilton. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving family.

McCain should just call up the Hiltons, and say "Look, I'm sorry if you are offended about our reference to Paris, we meant no disrespect, but listen if you wanna make a presidential omelet, ya gotta break some pseudo celebrity eggs!"

So, the Hiltons have learned what it is like to be caught in the Right Wing Smear Machine...

Perhaps it will help them understand the mindless maliciousness of the "team" they support with the money they get from the American public...

But, probably not.

Spears and Hilton have a right to be performers. The whole thing is comparing apples and oranges and that is what is so ridiculous about it. It is like comparing Obama to an accountant. That should be the end of it.
Spears and Hilton are conservative supporters. They probably will not ultimately mind this because it will help their careers and the McCain team knows that. McCain is trying to play it both ways. He is appealing to people of the center who don't approve of the lack of message from Spears and Hilton. He is appealing to the right because he is helping their careers and generating money for the right.

The Barron gave money to the Mc Mummy and now the Mummy has turned against the Barron. Sounds like an old Boris Karloff movie

Obviously, in this case, so far as intellect goes the fruit (Paris) doesn't fall far from the tree (her father.) Just one more reason to stay at an independent hotel.

Does he regard Paris and Brittney as c*nts, too, just like his rich blonde trophy wife?

His misogyny shows again and again but no one seems to ever call him on it.

From "hero" to "zero".

He's no hero! Never was. If anything, he was a collaborator.

Most hotel tycoons probably support Republicans. At least most Hilton hotels are unionized, unlike a lot of other hotel chains.

You guys are funny...
think of all the things you'd have to boycott if you used this standard for all businesses.

Haha probably a lot of independent hotels too. Obama hotels only!

I hope Grampa Hilton demands every penny back that was donated in the Hilton name. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

America this is just another example of the 1980's Bush/Reagan retreads running the show. McCain doesn't know anything about this ad, nor did he approve it. He is out of the loop and is just there for show (just like GW Bush and Reagan second term). Is it getting clear America? McCain is NOT HIS OWN MAN! He's a puppet that is mean to trick you, then once in the White House the Cheney/Reagan/Bush retreads from the 1980's will continue punishing America with White Conservative Protestant Nation rhetoric.

Well, maybe now there will be a statement saying that the "campaign" doesn't speak for McCain. Oh well - thanks to the MSM running that ad over and over as a "news story", it got more free airtime than he probably bought.

Hee! Hee! Hee!

When your unwilling participants in your ad start disassociating from you, you're really in trouble....

Oh - right - that happened earlier this year when that little girl in the 3 am ad happened to be a precinct captain for Obama. Maybe it's time for McCain to stop using the HC playbook.
