I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Whoopi Elis Mccain

America's breakfast table heated up again Thursday morning as the ladies of "The View" engaged in a screaming match prompted by the latest John McCain attack ad. Exactly two weeks after Whoopi and Elisabeth's showdown over the N-word, the pair — along with Joy Behar — sparred about McCain and Barack Obama.

The discourse was civil enough, if juvenile, until Joy suggested that McCain's celebrity equivalent is Quaker Oats and diabetes commercial star Wilford Brimley — at which point a pig-tailed Elisabeth asked, "You wanna get into friends of candidates? Let's talk Rezko. Let's talk Reverend Wright. Let's talk Ludacris."

When Elisabeth got some pushback on that point ("This is about the ad," Whoopi reminded her), she cried out, "This is a free country!" at which point the fun started.

Watch (transcript below)

Elisabeth: It seems to be that you can only have one opinion in this country right now.
Whoopi: Oh really? After the last eight years you can say that? Don't go there, please. On one opinion, I know. I got eaten by what one opinion should be in this country.
Elisabeth: I'm saying, you experienced that.
Whoopi: Yes I did, so that's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to get this ad out, to talk about this ad, whether you think it's good or whether you don't think it's good. Not because he went here... What was wrong with that ad is, Is there no other way to do this? John McCain is a great guy. I like him. But this was beneath him. He is a much better guy than this. And that's what agitates me.
Joy: Well, he used to be. He used to be. He's not anymore.

I'm sure McCain has quite a few questionable friends - what was that one guy, last name's something Cheating, ok, Keating.

Let's see, he did send a birthday wish to "Joe Bananas" Bonano - head of a NY crime family in 1995.

A friend of his about 35 years, Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi said, "The thought of [McCain] being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

I agree with Joy and I hope people get this. Mc is not a good guy anymore. You can't tie your wagon to the lobbyists and big corporate interests and then turn your back on them. They have money and power and they can bring people down with their ownership of everything. Consider what happened to Jimmy Carter, how Bill Clinton was impeached, what happened to Gore, Kerry, Dukakis and even Newt Gingrich when he tried to follow up on what he really wanted to happen, misguided or not. The people need to take back the country and they can't if they support Mc and others who are there to further the interests of the status quo, rich exploitation of the middle and lower classes.

Elizabeth's not an idiot, she just may be misguided, which is an opinion that I'm sure SHE holds about Whoopi. Irritating or not, that's what the network is paying these people to do -- have an unstructured mini-debate -- a McDebate!
YA WANT FRIES WITH THAT OPINION?

"Elizabeth's not an idiot"

"Yes she is!" "No she's not!" "Yes she is!" "No she's not!"

The fact is that she IS an idiot, and so is anyone who denies it.

Most people who are not idiots usually do not portray themselves as such.If Elizabeth is not an idiot, then why does she choose to portray herself as one time and time again?

That was witty!!! LOL

I do not think Elisabeht would relish being black though.....mark my words. She's just too white, too Republican and too much of an idiot to know what she stands for even the idiots are embarassed by her!

I wonder friends like those women in the Republican party are voting for a Democrat because they think Obama has greater chances to change this country. The older women are more jaded...they like experience than change, that is just the way how they are.

But I salute the women who will be voting for Barack not because he is a Democrat, or not becaue these ladies are Republicans. The good of the country is first and foremost than party loyalty. You have crossed the great divide Ladies.

A toast to you them women who are smarter than Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Right. I'm an opinionated so called Democrat who will vote Independent or Republican, if the WHO is right, not because of loyalty to my party.

Loyalty ends where the call of the country begins......and friendship ends when a friend spikes someone's blind loyalty. Like Elisabeth's.

Elisabeth gets her talking points from Hannity, so what do people expect? I just wish they could get a conservative who actually thought things through and one who talked based on facts not based on emotion. If I have learned anything over these past 8 years it is that even though people like me didn't vote for Bush either time, we are not allowed to be as angry as the conservatives who voted for him. We are not allowed to point out..."Hey, ya know, you thought Bush would be a good president, now you are sitting there saying that McCain will be good." I would like to tell them to sit this one out because clearly their judgement of good leaders is waaaaayyyyyyyyyy off!!!!
Elisabeth crazy ramblings keep the ratings alive, so they will never get rid of her, plus Bill Geddy is a republican, so he loves her, I'm sure.
I think it is fine to have a person with a different perspective on the issues, I just think they should get someone who has a bigger brain, and more maturity.

Come on people calm down about Elisabeth because she has a right to her opinion, although she has been wrong 80% of the time about everything. She still holds this centrest point a view like most of the dum dum heads that re-elected G.W Bush. Look America is changing and you can either go with the flow or you can be like Elisabeth....dazed and confused.

"she has a right to her opinion"

That's the most idiotic phrase. No one is claiming that she doesn't have a RIGHT to her idiotic opinion, just as people have a right to criticize it and her.

Typical. And liberals wonder why they can't stay in power. They feel they can play the race card at will [Hint: it's not working anymore and black conservatives have seen the light], they play the victim role so well that when they are in power [note to Nancy Pelosi: You are the Speaker of the House, why don't you get off your a** and do something about the things you don't like] it looks a bit weird to still be playing the victim, they shout down opposing belief as so outrageous as to not deserve a hearing [note: freedom of speech is apparently now a conservative rather than a progressive plank], and they deny personal responsibility [whoopi and her infamous political attacks]. Objectivity is right out the window.

And as we all know, conservatives just love listening to everyone with a differing opinion and wouldn't even think about shouting down an opposing belief.
Give me a freakin' break.

Right. It's obvious you're as objective as the rest of the sock puppets...(Hannity, Limbaugh, Hasselbeck, et al)

Agreed. I think her positions are all about getting her next gig. She came from a reality show, for pete's sake. Possibly she's angling for a job on FOX after her contract ends on The View. That's why she sucks up to Hannity.

I just love reading this site, it really shows the true colors of liberals....name calling and calls to "shut people up"....calls to remove Elisabeth from the show because of her views...basically, no conservatives should ever be able to speak thier opinions....liberal fascism is alive and well.

You obviously don't watch that show or many others, Elisabeth is always shouting her opinions and talking over the others just like other conservatives on tv, they can't have a calm discussion they have to bully their opinion on everyone else. Where has anyone asked to remove Elisabeth from the show where has that been written. Silly we love that she is on there who else would talk all her drivel.

There' s "speaking", and then there's "barking". Everyone else calmly stated their position. She immediately took on an excited, combative air, and her voice went up a few octaves.

Elisabeth barks. Tara Wall barks. Should I conclude - based on this - that all Republican women are coarse?

Sherri smiles and is courteous. But I swear, Sherri's going to reach over and tear her hair out, one of these days.

You just go on believin that rash limp ick philologizing(sic) You'' ll get somewhere some time.
I have been hearing the neokon rants for 30 years but when I spoke up about jebbie boosh and kathy harris ordering our ballots shredded before first count in 2000, and spoke up about it i got threatening phone calls, put on the no fly list, had my home invaded and searched. I was an eyewitness to their hired thugs taking our ballots out of our polling place and putting them in truck mounted shredders, Fox' local station was there with cameras, they showed it locally 1 time it was never aired again or nation wide, it should have been.
Can't win an election on their merits they had to STEAL.
It seems to me that neokkkon facism is more than alive and well they keep making the kool aide and ya'll keep swiggin it down like jack daniels.
Im sick to Freakin death of it.

I love all the girls like they're my family because I work at home and watch them every day.

Still, I got upset with all of them over that fuss. Together, they left the impression that Obama really is going to raise electricity taxes.... and if a one of them had checked factcheck.org, they'd have seen that was false. I've read as many of these hateful posts as I can stand, and I didn't see anyone here disputing that issue either. It's all about Obama being a celebrity. Amazing since it's the taxes that effect OUR POCKETBOOKS.

I don't want to have to start my own blog about this, but really, when is someone going to tell all the girls they can prevent themselves from spreading lies if they'll just check the facts. Too many women trust them. We've got news hacks to spread propaganda. It would be nice if the girls would stick to the truth. Sherri is the least partisan of all of them. She could keep a copy of the day's factcheck.org in front of her and correct both sides.

The interesting thing is that between Elisabeth and the young male GOPer CNN had on the this morning, who could not seem to put together an intelligent sentence and chose to try the bullyish, overtalking tactic to riff through the usual nonsense and stuff you see on AOL message boards in reference to Barack Obama, this must be the kind of voter they are going after -- people who take whatever is alleged as truth, without finding out what the reality is, and are willing to regurgitate these myths to their peers. This guy could not respond to the counterpoints of the Democratic young person representation, although she could have been a bit more assertive

Elizabeth Hasselback is an idiot, it's like she grew up in this little suburban neighborhood and has never had to deal with any real life issues and doesn't understand the world. She's the little air head barbie doll. It would be better to compare her to britney or paris. Airheaded dimwits.

She is an idiot and she's also representative of a lot of people out there who are "conservatives" because they are too stupid to think an issue through and too self-centered and smug to care. If she wasn't representational, she wouldn't have been picked for this show.

What I find particularly amusing is: what is her qualification to be making a living by offering up an opinion on anything? She was a game show contestant.
