I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Whoopi Elis Mccain

America's breakfast table heated up again Thursday morning as the ladies of "The View" engaged in a screaming match prompted by the latest John McCain attack ad. Exactly two weeks after Whoopi and Elisabeth's showdown over the N-word, the pair — along with Joy Behar — sparred about McCain and Barack Obama.

The discourse was civil enough, if juvenile, until Joy suggested that McCain's celebrity equivalent is Quaker Oats and diabetes commercial star Wilford Brimley — at which point a pig-tailed Elisabeth asked, "You wanna get into friends of candidates? Let's talk Rezko. Let's talk Reverend Wright. Let's talk Ludacris."

When Elisabeth got some pushback on that point ("This is about the ad," Whoopi reminded her), she cried out, "This is a free country!" at which point the fun started.

Watch (transcript below)

Elisabeth: It seems to be that you can only have one opinion in this country right now.
Whoopi: Oh really? After the last eight years you can say that? Don't go there, please. On one opinion, I know. I got eaten by what one opinion should be in this country.
Elisabeth: I'm saying, you experienced that.
Whoopi: Yes I did, so that's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to get this ad out, to talk about this ad, whether you think it's good or whether you don't think it's good. Not because he went here... What was wrong with that ad is, Is there no other way to do this? John McCain is a great guy. I like him. But this was beneath him. He is a much better guy than this. And that's what agitates me.
Joy: Well, he used to be. He used to be. He's not anymore.

McCain should stick to photoshopping Obama's face on Mt. Rushmore. It's much more dignified.

apparently the mccain ad passed elizabeth's stringent "what do we tell the children" smell test.

I watched the show and what disappointed me was later when Joy did a version of the Ludacris rap song talking about Hillary being an irrelevant bitch who hated Obama and hateful comments about McCain and W and they all just laughed about it. I remember at the beginning of the primaries they were all for Hillary and women's rights. Now are they so infatuated with Barack they don't even discuss the misogyny displayed here? By the way, Webster's definition of infatuate is "to inspire with a foolish love or admiration." Yep, that's about says it all. I hate to say it because of her stand on certain issues, but Elisabeth is the voice of reason here.

Goldberg should have said, "...Or we can talk about the S & L scandal. Any takers?"
(A few seconds of silcence - and a good chance of a commercial break)

4th try --

She also could have JUMPED all over J oy B ehar for mentioning W ilford B rimley, after all they WERE talking about the McC ad/commercial. But Whoopi didn't. Elisabeth was the target? And, how in the "flat world" did Ms. B ehar get a photo of Mr. B rimley and McC up on screen while conversing? Beats me. Ha! Not so "off the cuff" it's called pre-meditated.

Set up? Not on the View! And Whoopi, you're part of it, good luck.

Would love to talk about it. But I think the current Fanny/Freddy scandal is much more relevant.

I find it funny that Elisabeth keeps throwing out the standard neocon lines instead of intligently trying to counter Whoopi. Obviously ABC pays her a lot for the part. But still it's just like neocons that call progressive talk shows.

What do you want to say?
Will you let me speak? You never let me speak!
I JUST SAID GO AHEAD AND TALK YOU *%^^$!

I really hope Whoopi's making great money to have to put up with this s**t every day.

That's where I'd like to put EH. She has the MOST passive aggressive behavior I've ever seen and it ain't pretty Bill Getty.

I keep having to preface everything I say with "I'm a Democrat...but" - how could anyone possibly consider that to be "passive aggressive"? Do you know what that means? And if you do, how could it be reasonable for you to claim you have never seen a more egregious example of it? You could see a worse example of it in the first 15 minutes of your day, unless you are a recluse.

She's a poster child for the"Dumbing Down of America!'' I don't want to insult any intelligent blondes out there, so I'll just let this comment suffice for my complete and utter disdain for this poor excuse of a woman of the 21st century. I pity those children of hers...they're in for future shock!!!

By not wanting to insult intelligent blonds, you insulted intelligent blonds. And blonds in general. If, perchance, you disagreed with Whoopi, would you preface it by saying "I don't want to insult black-skinned people out there, so I'll just let this comment suffice...". Don't pity anyone else's children.

Another PUMA bites the dust...do you people EVER think before you ATTEMPT to critique what someone else's perspecrtive is???!!! Let's see if you can understand this (try and keep up...if you can). EH is the typical uninformed Repub, who either chooses to ignore the real issues or simply does not have a clue. She spews the rhetoric of the far right-wing Repub agenda and then when she's called on it...BASED ON REAL FACTS...she grasps at straws, saying any and everything (or worse, melts into a puddle of tears) in order to make herself appear relevant (that's never going to happen). And again, I repeat...most emphactically...that I PITY her children. In her own narrow-minded view of the world, she is setting them up for a world they are not going to be prepared to interact with others who are unlike them. I only hope that there are others in their lives who will be able to counterbalance the damage she's inflicting.

Do I detect a little blonde envy? No doubt because those women on Fox are gorgeous. I would not want to go there especially where Whoopi and Rosie are concerned. They both fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch coming down.

No, you were talking about Karma. You brought it up, did you forget already? What red states, are they on your "Karma" list too? Name calling: the last bastion of fibbing, misspelling and no ownership of one's own words. Here's what you posted:

"I hope lizzies kids grow up to speak out against republicans, I hope one is drafted and the other has to terminate an unwanted pregnency, & maybe timmy will leave her for another man NOW that is Karma..that would be justice .....LOL"

Have a nice evening. I'm sorry you are very angry but you are the author of your own words and then tried to spin and make things up to disparage me. By the way, I'm a blue state girl.

It is a free country Elizabeth, and you are not only free to express your opinion, but are paid quite well, I'm sure, to do so. But, if you say stupid things, people are free to conclude you're stupid. We'd love to praise you for what you say, but you haven't, as yet, given us any opportunity to do so. But keep talking, you never know, you might become such a well known blonde that McCain will use you in an ad to compare you to Barack Obama. Oh, but that would be stupid.

I can't believe Elizabeth is as naive as she is. I mean did she grow up in America? It makes me wonder. She is so stuck in a box of "how things should be" and can't see for looking.

Did her patents not tell her about the boogyman ever? Gee, I hope her naivete don't get her hurt. She has too much complacency for the fact that all things republican are right. What's up with her political agenda. I hope she doesn't think that this country is in a good place now after 8 years of the b u s h w h a c k e r. I know she doesn't have money problems so evidently she don't know how the general public lives. She might need to take a trip to the ghetto and experience the "real" world.

Grow up Elizabeth. Everything in America isn't peaches and cream right now. People are suffering in more ways than you can imagine. Get a life girl and wake up!

Ms. Walters chooses the hostesses -- for a reason. They are a mockery -- of modern women, but reflected against the backdrop of herself -- pale by comparison. Ms. Walters ushered in the era of "celebrity" journalism -- and helped frame modern television media as we know it. For those of us who remember the 1950s and early 60s -- we know it has not been for the better. We grew up in an era where intelligence, grace, talent and fun were not mutually exclusive. Mockery and lack of intelligent discourse -- and jaded, cynical reparte -- predictable talking points and pettiness is women at our worst, not our best. Now, we are stuck in HER time-warp because of undue influence and risk averse, bottom line focused to the exclusion of ALL else -- media cos. who have hijacked the American zeitgeist and sensibility and packaged it as something modern women don't recognize. A hallmark of Executive Producers in an earlier era was their RESPECT for us -- the audience. Barbara Walters' obsession with CELEBRITY, makes her interviews, programs, book, etc. more about HER and the CELEBRITIES who reflect her life, interests, self. Ladies, you are watching women of a dated era w/Elizabeth playing the Stepford Wife part. Sad for them. Sad for us.
