WSJ Columnist: Is McCain Losing It?

Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger looks at John McCain's tax policy and concludes, "This isn't a flip-flop. It's a sex-change operation." He continues:

What I'm asking is, does John McCain have the mental focus, the intellectual discipline, to avoid being out-slicked by Barack Obama, if he isn't abandoned by his own voters?

Why as well shouldn't the Obama camp exploit all of this? If Sen. Obama's "inexperience" is Mr. McCain's ace in the hole, why not trump that by asking, "Does Sen. McCain know his own mind?"

Yes, Sen. McCain has honor and country. Another month of illogical, impolitic remarks and Sen. McCain will erase even that. Absent a coherent message for voters, he will be one-on-one with Barack Obama in the fall. He will lose.

The Chicago Tribune's Frank James comments: "More evidence that Sen. John McCain is giving fits to many conservatives, like those who comprise The Wall Street Journal's editorial board: they're asking aloud if he's stupid."

I am going to do something which appears to be taboo. But I think it is a question that has to be asked. How did John McCain get shot down and captured by the Viet Cong? What were the facts (the true ones) about his destruction of several planes?

These are things we have to know. General Clark, A GENERAL has hinted that one's being shot down is not always due to heroic activity. It may be due to incompetence. It appears to be taboo to say so, so I will say it. I am not running for office. I am selecting. They have to answer to me.

What is his academic background? How did he graduate although he failed a major exam and partied instead of studying for the make up? What are the facts about his army record? Has he ever studied economics? Has he studied geography? Has he studied philosophy? Has he studied the constitution? Has he read Roscoe Pound?

What is the state of his mental health after the torture he endured?

Does he have children by his first wife?

Everybody says they don't know Barack Obama. I think that we know far more about Obama and we don't really know McCain!

The media should question his mental/cognitive abilities. There could be a real story there. To me, it appears that there is a degree of impairment and it would be fair to question his mental status. He is way beyond having "senior moments" and MSM will only acknowledge those as "gaffes". The guy is getting a real pass.

Just blanket the country with ads of all of John McCain's flip-flops and you really shouldn't have to say much more .... ah, let me add a caveat ... that is based on the presumption that Americans have raised their level of consciousness somewhat since voting in Bush to a second term.

If people keep falling for this cramp that the McCain camp keeps putting out than we will have McBush III. We are not talking about important issues. As a wife of a retired military soldier I see McCain who onces was an honorable man going to the dogs.

I respected and admired the old 2000 vintage McCain and believed that he was a man of honor and a genuine straight talker. Looks like I was one of the many persons he had succeeded in fooling.

It really looks like the straigh-talking maverick of the Old 2000 McCain was never more than a pose that he resorted to when it was politically convenient for him to use it. Now the real McCain has shown his face and he is a man without shame or honor.
