Sarah Ebner at the Guardian has taken it upon herself to compile a list of the 15 most inspiring teachers in film. Because we're too lazy and because she's done too good a job, we're going to just send you right on over there. She has, after all, even supplied movie clips for each and every teacher / film mentioned.

Our favorites are, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Kindergarten Cop and Robin Williams in Dead Poet's Society, though we have to politely disagree with Ebner's nomination of Professor Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard) of Good Will Hunting. He just seemed like kind of a jerk. Can we nominate Robin Williams' Sean Macguire instead?

Old Lodge Skins, played by Chief Dan George in "Little Big Man", is tops to me.

The White Man doesn't know where the center of the earth is.

I will make myself invisible.

Today is a good day to die.

So cool.

Except Sarah Ebner doesn't write for The Guardian, and this doesn't appear on The Guardian! It's a Times Online (London Times) story...

Pretty good list.
If we get away from the movies, I would go with Socrates, Jesus, Buddha, my 6th grade teacher, and my college counselor.

But Jesus was a fictional character as well

Did anyone watched "The Little Buddha" starring Keanu Reeves. The most inspiring moment for me was when Lama Thunder Bolt described impermanence.

Yoda had some great lines:

Skywalker - "I'll try".

Yoda - "There is no try. Only do, or do not."

Skywalker - "I'm not afraid".

Yoda - "You will be. You WILL be!"

Pat Morita, who received an Academy Award nomination for The Karate Kid, should have been high on the list for his teaching skills. Mr. Miyagi showed the Ralph Macchio (Daniel) character life lessons usually not found in traditional classrooms. Apart from the humorous "wax on, wax off" bit, the Miyagi imparted lessons included discipline, focus, hard work, courage, compassion, confidence, and how to triumph over difficult social and personal issues.

On a side note, our California Kindergarten Cop, just cut 22,000 state jobs. That's 22,000 hard working people on the street looking for work and on unemployment insurance. A great lesson for those that actually believed his policies would help the middle and working classes.

I second Mr. Miyagi. Pat Morita was excellent in that role.

I wholeheartedly agree. Mr Miyagi taught young Daniel that everything in life requires balance. He should be in the top 5 on this list at least.
