GOP Senator Uses Obama In Another Ad

Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) uses Barack Obama in another ad -- even though the candidate endorsed his Democratic challenger.

In the ad, Smith touts his work with Obama on gas prices. Watch:

In June, Smith put out an ad saying he worked with Obama to break a "20 year deadlock" on energy policy.

Democrats aren't flattered. The DSCC put out an ad criticizing Smith -- on energy policy. Watch

I'm from Oregon and Gordo is History and will go down in flames this election cycle....he's not nice, he's a wormy politician and totally un-electable. Oregonians have had enuf of "bushite politics"

While I wish that Gordon Smith was a Republican more in the mode of his predecessor, Mark Hatfield or his Democratic relatives in the Udall political family..I cautiously give him credit for his votes on some issues.

His is an ambivalent, albeit typically conservative political history:
~Accepted OCA's endorsement, when running against Ron Wyden (D); losing that bid..he denounced the OCA, beating founder, Lon Mabon (R)/ Tom Bruggere (D) for Mark Hatfield's vacated seat.
~With Ted Kennedy, co-sponsored the "hate-crime" amendment, expanding coverage to gays; voted for "domestic-­partnershi­ps" benefits..however, against same-sex marriage, supported Oregon Measure 36 & a federal constitutional amendment.
~Commendably, a recent voice/ vote against the Iraq war..just years too late.
~"Pro-life"..but supported the stem cell research bill.
~Voted for Leslie Southwick..JEEZ!!
~Consistently opposes federal minimum-wage increases (interestingly, Oregon has one of the highest minumum wages-$7.95).
~Sponsored a bill for mental health-care coverage..again, commendable, but not his lack of support for overall healthcare coverage.
~BIG oil/ logging/ pharmaceutical $$ in his bankroll..claiming the high road on energy/ environmental/ healthcare issues is a BIG laugh, not so funny...

Using Barack Obama in his ads seems contrived & more than a bit disingenuous. Past re-election ads had Matthew Shepard's mother giving him accolades! Come election time..he plays up his liberal "bi-partisanship" to garner those Oregon votes, which now include some 350,00+ voting for Obama in our primary.

I'm an Oregonian but I stopped writing checks to Comcast so I haven't seen this before. Must be election season, Gordon's making centrist noises again. I'll bet he nearly peed his pants when 70,000 showed up to see Obama in Portland. Like Dylan says, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows".

Not knowing who, or what this guy is about, I watch that ad and my immediate reaction is that 'this man is a slime ball'. I was very surprised to hear him mention O because he seems like a Repub.
