Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) uses Barack Obama in another ad -- even though the candidate endorsed his Democratic challenger.

In the ad, Smith touts his work with Obama on gas prices. Watch:

In June, Smith put out an ad saying he worked with Obama to break a "20 year deadlock" on energy policy.

Democrats aren't flattered. The DSCC put out an ad criticizing Smith -- on energy policy. Watch

The good Senator is welcome to switch parties.
Until then, I'm skeptical of his motivations.

I hope so. These Rethugs are gasping and grasping any straw they can find! No lifeline for them.

I live in Oregon and Smith will not get my vote. If he thinks dropping Obama's name will gain him respect and my vote he has another thing coming.

But only until they get reelected, then it is back to stiffing the people.

Well known among insiders, the fuel storage and refining capacity has been fine tuned such that any disruption will deplete the reserves and subsequently cause prices to rise. Why should they spend money building refineries when they can make money by not having them? I myself watched as a tank farm and a refinery were dismantled...

It's not a bad strategy. Smith has the name recognition and, though people here in the metro areas of Oregon are decidedly democrat, the rural folks are not. He's trying to get the city vote by sidling up to Obama supporters...won't work though.

He's just following the RepubliCON strategy, hoping voters forget that silly R next to his name.

WOW! Here's hoping that more politicians, regardless of party affiliation, can embrace the lost spirit of statesmanship that Sen. Smith's election ad demonstrates. At the risk of sounding like an old f**t, I clearly remember when bi-partisanship was common place, and was indeed the hallmark of the Senate. As a lifelong Democrat, I'm certain that I would not agree with everyone of Sen. Smith's votes. But I am interested enough to investigate his record. And if he really does incorporate this bi-partisanship in his actions, then he's got a fan and small contributor.

Gordon Smith has voted the GWB line consistently. He is my senator so I've been able to watch his voting record and it sucks. He is NOT bipartisan but every four years he makes bipartisan noises. I hope and pray my fellow Oregonians will not be fooled this time, and will vote for Jeff Merkley!!!

Republicans are always bi-partisan... when they're afraid the other party might win.

I think choppedliver can attest to these items about Gordon Smith as well:
1) Gordon Smith's Portland office is located in the Portland World Trade Center. You cannot protest Gordon Smith in the plaza of the PWTC, because you will be arrested for trespassing on private property. And don't even think of trying to meet with Smith inside his office. (You can see the arrests on YouTube.)
2) Funny how Smith suddenly was against the war. Of course, this was AFTER the Nov 2006 elections. He rubberstamped everything Bush wanted for 6 years.
3) Did you know that Smith is a megamillionaire (over $100 mil) and paid $1.3 million for some golf clubs (one of which may have belonged to James I of Scotland) at auction?
Personally, as an Oregonian, I find his campaign ads laughable. He's going to reach across the aisle, across partisan lines, to save his lily-white hinny.

Fair enough.
You'll forgive him his seven years of rubber-stamping Duhbya?
Sheesh.

In Oregon, he's perceived as a moderate who will work across party lines. He was even one of the first Republicans to come out "questioning" our involvement in Iraq (not until 2006, though).

However, when it really matters, he lines right up 100 percent with the obstructionist Republicans to support President Bush's agenda.

But that (female) McCain surrogate on MSNBC Wednesday said, "Senator Obama NEVER reaches across the aisle!!! He NEVER works with Republicans!!!"

When David Shuster mentioned work with Richard Lugar she said dismissively, "That little thing they did? It doesn't even COUNT!!!"

So...who's lying here, Smith or the McSame campaign?
