TO HOLLYWOOD it smacked of desperation.

That's why the reaction to a new John McCain ad attempting to portray Barack Obama as a kind of mindless celebrity -- likening him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears -- drew collective yawns and shrugs of irritation from politically active members of the entertainment industry.

The ad might be silly, but it works. Time is on McCain's side, because Obama keeps sticking his foot in his mouth and proving that he is style with ZERO substance. McCain will win.....not because America is not ready for a black President......but because this candidate is an empty suit. The cult of personality once again won out in the democratic party.

We don't really need Hollywood to validate what we already knew: McCain's campaign is being run by middle schoolers.

The mental giants in Hollywood should stick to memorizing their scripts and pretending they're someone else.

The add drew the attention of many more people than simply asking, "Is Obama ready to lead?" And that's the question people are going to have in their minds as they consider him as a candidate.

The answer is an unqualified no, and people need to see that. They will, once he has to speak extemporaneously and subject himself to the (shudder) debate format. He's an empty suit.

When GWB debated Al Gore he clearly was wired. Do they make teleprompter sunglasses?

The economy is tanking, gas is still around $4 per gallon, the climate is still warming , we have an idiot war ongoing in Iraq and Mc Cain has now sucsessfully focused the election discussion on Paris and Brittany. I don't want to ask if it can get anymore vacuuous that this, because it likely will be.

Actually we had good economic news yesterday, the earth is cooling(at lest for the next 15 years), Barack Obama is a celebrity, and the price of gas will go down by just the decision of Congress to open up drilling in America.

Climate no longer warming.
Gas $4/gal because no-drill democrats will not allow us to increase the oil supply (while at the same time adding thousands and thousands of high paying jobs)
If you think the economy is bad now, wait til the dems really wreck it.
Can you say depression?

The L.A. Times doesn't speak for Hollywood. In fact their embarrassingly poor coverage of the town's major industry is often so far off the mark, out of town newspapers cover the industry far more accurately. If the LA Times wants to quote some celebrities who don't approve of the McCain's campaign ads, the newspaper is only telling half the story. There are also many in Hollywood who are far from gaga over Obama and his self-promotion tactics and damaging economic policy.

You will remember the billboards next to the Kodak Theater during the Academy Awards that said "thanks Hollywood" for four more years of Bush. Hollywood was very helpful in assuring Bush's reelection in 2004.

The "Hollywood Halfwits" think what? Isn't that an oxymoron?

You clearly don't know what an oxymoron is. Which, BTW, comes as no shocker...

Here's a hint: if you believe that all Hollywood actors are halfwits, then "Hollywood Halfwits" is not an oxymoron. I know, I know, you didn't get it...

I think McCain could have made his point without Britney and Paris. It was a silly ad. (He should have inserted Obama into the "Cult of Personality' video.) But, 'desperation?' I don't think so. Considering the blind adoration and free ride he's getting from the media, Obama should be up 15% in all polls right now. Look where even Kerry was this time last year.

Let John McCain keep running these types of ads--the more he acts like a buffoon and refuses to talk about his plans, oh wait! His plan is to be 4 more years of Bush-Cheney-Rove-Gonzales!!!
Anyway, the more he acts like a Grumpy Old Man (sorry Dad, I know you worship Fox News), the better Obama looks.

Interesting take on what is appearing to be a very effective ad that differentiates the candidates viewpoints about what makes them more like us. Frankly, as much as I might find McCain generally offensive, the ad is really tour de force in its ability to drive the notion of a candidate (Obama) that has the vapid air about him of a Britney or Paris Hilton...all Limo and no substance. This is what the ad really drives home. To make it about celebrity is one thing, but to make it about the two "blond" dopey girls that probably don't know anything about politics or national affairs etc, that is what this whole campaign push by McCain is exploiting. I personally think that drawing the parallel to them, after the Obama "world tour" is really a tremendous strategic move by McCain--after Obama has pushed him into a political corner about being "old" and "out of touch" etc., well, it's really a little like setting up the playing board all over again. Touche McCain.
