I Like ItI Don’t Like It
John McCain debuted another stinging attack video targeting Barack Obama Friday, this time mocking his White House foe as "The One" -- a quasi-religious figure who "anointed" himself to lead the world.

"Can you see the light?" the hard-hitting negative ad asks, following up on Republican McCain's new campaign theme that the Illinois Democrat is arrogant, transfixed by his own celebrity and not yet ready to lead.

Read more about it here and watch it below:

The Obama campaign has issued a response. Read it from Ben Smith:

Barack Obama's campaign responded sharply to a new McCain webad depicting Obama as a parody of a biblical prophet.

"It's downright sad that on a day when we learned that 51,000 Americans lost their jobs, a candidate for the presidency is spending all of his time and the powerful platform he has on these sorts of juvenile antics," said spokesman Hari Sevugan. "Senator McCain can keep telling everyone how 'proud' he is of these political stunts which even his Republican friends and advisors have called 'childish', but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief."

LMAO! I think that after McCain loses the election, he can pay off campaign debts by selling DVD box sets of his ads. I think it would be a hit at parties where large quantities of intoxicating substances are consumed.

Thou shall not use the name of thy God (or anything seriously related to His Holy Name) in vain. Is not not the quote from the Bible? And is John McCain not supposed to be a Christian?

Just because McCain wants to win an election, he is ready to defame God and Moses by equating Sen. Obama with Moses just to make a caricature of himself. As a Christian, I find this very offensive.

I don't think John McCain would have disrespectfully put up an ad featuring Prophet Mohammed with a politician if he were a Moslem.

That this is not seen as an outrage by the Christian Leaders shows you how much we as Christian have degenerated with our concept of God, Jesus Christ and His Holy Prophets. It is only a marginal believer who will see this ad mocking Moses and laugh it off as a campaign ad (no matter how silly it might look).

John McCain is a DISHONORABLE guy. He ha s sold his soul (if he ever had any) to the Devil himself for a pot porridge.
Shame on John McCain and all those who worship him!!!

Scarllatti,, you got that right. Totally offensive.

Scarllatti, it is written that way. You are right. I was a Republican for 34 years and it was the pandering and abuse of Biblical traditions that turned me off to George Bush.

By my faith, I do not favor abortion, but I will not support the Criminalizing of our daughters who may find themselves in a confusing, desperate time or at a moral crossroads. What would the punishments and enforcements be? To further traumatize, imprison or victimize a child, because of a mistaken lapse in judgment?

NOPE, and McCain is not talking to what IS needed to slow the tide of Abortion in America. Education, Protection, knowledge for BOTH, young men and young women and understanding about these issues and their own bodies and drives.

Now McCain tries to strike FEAR in our hearts, just like Bush did with 911. This ad,, and all of McCains other ads are More of the Same, Smear and FEAR. Bush/Rove.

Scarllatti,,, THIS is WRONG,, WRONG,, WRONG on SOOOO many levels.

A Mockery of faith. A mockery of Moses. A mockery of American Conservatives. A Mockery of Biblical Traditions and abuse of a Christian walk.

Discuss issues all day long,, hold your debates, get as slimy as you wish,, the Voters will decide,,, but don’t drag God into the gutter with you.

McCain crossed the line,,,,, about 5 miles back.

This is just WRONG!

This ad is not teasing God. It is teasing BO by suggesting that he is elevating himself to the same status as Moses or Jesus. It is also teasing O's followers for blindly following him as if he were inspired by God.

I don't see where God or Moses were defamed at all.

Of course he's inspired by God. Read his damn book. As for me, I simply love the man and his intellect.

It's a dicey proposition at best, claiming that a politician thinks he's a Biblical prophet or Messiah type, and I think this is going to backfire like a Pinto with a bad alternator. And underneath the ugliness it there's a pathetic teen-angry-over-attention-given-to-new-baby vibe that isn't a good look for this particular senior citizen.

So help me, but I thought that the headline and lede paragraph were jokes and that this was a Borowitz column. Then I thought the ad was a spoof. Is John McCain running for president or making the sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall?

McCain ad brings is own lack of in to question. If this ad so funny to mcCain, then why does it insult millions of people faith. Since, this ad so funny to McCain, then the question must be is McCain atheist? I bet network and cable news will not be playing this ad at nauseum like McCain other ad, because they will to question what is McCain faith? They will have to asks is McCain atheist? They will have to asks why run two different religious attack ads, if McCain does not want his faith question.

Go to :33 on the ad, beginning with "A light will shine down..." - Whose voice did they superimpose on the footage of Senator Obama at the podium? Rush Limbaugh? Glenn Beck? This is getting surreal.

That speech actually happened. he was mimicking Hillary Clinton who had made the comments in a stump speech. He was being sarcastic. The idea was to say they want you to believe that you are not making the choice for me as the nominee but that it is some sort of divine happenstance. That is slander and he should sue McCain.

Thanks, I didn't know the source of that statement and that visual looked strange to me. Let me also excuse my silliness by stating that I began to lose my sense of humor and started experiencing hyper-paranoia after the presidential election of 2000.

What is wrong with the Obama camp in not being able to handle those two McCain ads? Their response was to issue a couple of weak statements and sit on the sidelines while the media endlessly played the ads.

He could have easily spun out of it by taking clips from those two McCain ads and doing a voice over that his candidacy will not be frivolous with your money and finish it off by stating that a typical ad costs xx thousands of dollars.

Surely they have to know that the McCain camp are slapping themselves on the back for having broken the Obama news cycle. Next up will be a McCain ad showing Obama on the covers of all those magazines with the New Yorker Muslim photo being the most prominently displayed which will take Obama off the media for another week.

After all, if Hillary Clinton was taking these type of "hits" from McCain, she would unleash "the age card" with an ad saying "Do you want a 71 year old man answering that 3 AM phone call"!

J.C. did a pretty good job of leading and inspiring the entire world, until the awful powers that were, and are, decided he was just too in control and too atuned to the needs of the day to be allowed to lead any further. Sen. Obama is ready, willing and very able physicaly to lead this country and the world on a better path. Any, ANY path is better than the one we are on.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:57 AM on 08/03/2008

Correct, and what experience did J. C. have? Was he "ready to lead"? These clowns still talk about Obama having no experience, but ignore the fact that baby bush had no experience either! Look where that got us!!!

Personally, I hope the GOP runs the ad with Britney and Hilton a million times. It is utterly ridiculous, and as such it is comical. The more they run it, the more foolish they make themselves look. Its like they are doing Obama's campaigning for him.
And Charleston Heston? That ad is so far over the top, I have to question the sanity of the person who designed it. Heston is a popular character in American mythology, and comparing Barack to him is good publicity for the candidate. Now, if they had put a picture of Satan up there with Obama, maybe their point would have at least have been consistent, but it would have been no less absurd.

I've been volunteering with the Obama campaign - and this is one that we're going to have to win the old-fashioned way - we'll work for it. And this crap sure makes it harder.

But here's your motivation - just think about waking up on November 5 - and the first thought that hits you is "John McCain is going to be our president for the next 4 years - and the same people that controlled Bush are going to pull his strings too - and even more because he may be a better speaker - but I think he's even dumber than Bush. Bush's sneer tells me he knows he's lying. John's just plain confused - maybe since he can't open his in-box, he's missed a lot in the last 10 years of being on the Hill.

But with John - I think in his head, he's still fighting Vietnam - and somehow he thinks there's a victory waiting out there. But Iraq is not vietnam. Afghanistan is more likely to be that. And I think he's chomping at the bit to put Iran on his own list of wars. I saw a quote about how he felt about war - and it was that it was really pretty fun to drop bombs and so on.

I If the media has decided he's to be our next president - I think it's time they start microanalyzing him the way the have Obama.

This "crap," as you Obama true believers like to call it, doesn't make it harder for him to win, it makes it impossible. At least, as long as the Obama campaign considers itself above all of this juvenile stuff. Read this very carefully: THAT'S HOW KERRY LOST.

This is precisely, exactly, 100% identical to the Swift Boat thing. If the Obama campaign can't see that, they're idiots. Kerry's big strength was that he was a war hero; they turned it into his big weakness. Obama's big strength is his mass appeal, his oratorical style, his TV image. They're turning into his big weakness. IT WORKED IN 2004 AND IT CAN WORK THIS TIME. Wake up, Obama campaign.

I know it's distasteful and I know you're "new politics" and I know it's beneath you, but you need to use the same tactics if you don't want to end up where Kerry is. McCain's big strength is his (alleged) experience. Use it against him. The down side of experience is age: attack his age. Just do it. Portray him as a doddering, Depends-clad old fool who spends the first three hours of every day trying to remember where he left his dentures. Parody the "is he ready to lead" tag line: "McCain: is he ABLE to lead?" You'll still be on a somewhat morally superior path, because at least it will all be true. But you're just not going to win by taking the so-called "high road."

The Obama camp already tried attacking McCain's strength. Remember Clarke and others' comments about McCain's POW experience not qualifiing him to be commander in chief? It didn't work. They also are using code names for his age: "confused", "lost his bearings" etc. BO's campaign was supposed to be a new politics but I guess that's all out the window along with his core values on the issues. Guess he's not the Messiah after all. MIght as well go negative and "do anything to win" as he accused Hillary of doing.

I am just surprised that mccain used the actor, Charlton Heston protraying Moses. we all know damn well that he has first hand pictures of Moses since they played together as children. I'm just curios as to why he didn't use one of those pictures.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sick of these ridiculous ads.
They are a waste of time and money.
In my opinion they are tantamount to McCain throwing a fit or having a tantrum;
because Obama is more popular.

To put it simply.
McCain is signaling that he knows he can't win on the issues.

Thats the analysis thats missing from the news media.

and when obama plays the race card it, too, shows clearly that he cannot win without raising the issue of his race -whatever that actually is.
