John McCain debuted another stinging attack video targeting Barack Obama Friday, this time mocking his White House foe as "The One" -- a quasi-religious figure who "anointed" himself to lead the world.

"Can you see the light?" the hard-hitting negative ad asks, following up on Republican McCain's new campaign theme that the Illinois Democrat is arrogant, transfixed by his own celebrity and not yet ready to lead.

Read more about it here and watch it below:

The Obama campaign has issued a response. Read it from Ben Smith:

Barack Obama's campaign responded sharply to a new McCain webad depicting Obama as a parody of a biblical prophet.

"It's downright sad that on a day when we learned that 51,000 Americans lost their jobs, a candidate for the presidency is spending all of his time and the powerful platform he has on these sorts of juvenile antics," said spokesman Hari Sevugan. "Senator McCain can keep telling everyone how 'proud' he is of these political stunts which even his Republican friends and advisors have called 'childish', but Barack Obama will continue talking about his plan to jumpstart our economy by giving working families $1,000 of immediate relief."

Wow, McCain has become laughable. Where are the ads talking about the issues and how your going to deal with them? I mean the jealousy of the McCain campaign over Obama's ability to inspire and mobilize people has now become a walking parody and an endless display of base mockery. This ad is borderling sacreligious, I wonder how the Christian right are going to view it. McCain has allowed the Rove/Atwater brigade to infiltrate and now take over his campaign, and here I actually thought that he would be the "Maverick" and "straight talker" he supposes to be and run a clean campaign. His campaign was generating about as much buzz as a couple of fireflys, and ever since the rejigging and the addition of people like Schmidt and Rove as an advisor, you now see the tone and the direction the McCain camp has taken in the last several weeks. I actually find it pathetic and pretty funny, and I think it will only motivate Obama supporters even more...talk about the issues old man, and get over your inferiority complex.

For McCain to piously pretend that Obama is playing the race card is totally outrageous. Clearly, the Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Barack Obama celebrity ad was designed to juxtapose white, loose, attractive women with Barack Obama in hopes of evoking a connection of some negative stereotypes that certain white voters might still be entertaining either consciously or subconsciously.

McCain should be roundly criticized for the below-the-belt, Rovian-style type of campaign he seems to have wholeheartedly embraced. Any notion that he is some sort of a "straight talking maverick" is now laughable.

I truly hope that Obama finds a way to effectively expose McCain for the fraud that he has become and make it clear to America that four years of John McCain and the Republican party would be utterly disastrous for America.

Not the case...I only here Barak mentioning race in this election.

And this particular ad is much more clearly racist than the celebrity ad! Firstly, notice the background music--it is an African-American gospel choir throughout the ad and evokes the feeling that this is a black church service.Yes, all statements are in Barack's voice but taken utterly out of context,in most cases his point was just the opposite as it is portrayed here. I'll bet that most white people viewing this Moses ad will not have consciously noticed that all of the white people in the ad are standing impassively and not reacting, their faces expressionless--not clapping, shouting or bouncing up and down--their expressions and body language tinged with reservation. Watch the ad again now and focus solely on the black people, they are ALL grinning, laughing, clapping, shouting, jumping up and down (in a frenzy in some cases) dancing around and generally acting wildly enthusiastic and encouraged at the prospect of this man becoming POTUS. The McCain camp has just dealt another race card from the top of the deck! They want creeping concern to begin subconsciously nagging at susceptible Caucasian voters--that "black concerns" will get way too much attention while "white concerns" will receive short shrift by this candidate as evidenced by the enthusiastic anticipation to his presidency demonstrated here by blacks. And yes, the whole ad harkens back to the Rev Wright debacle, only this time Obama has assumed the place of the Rev Wright character here.

I think McCain is 'Roving". That is: throwing sh*t at the wall and seeing what sticks. It worked against Gore and Kerry

McCain is no longer in charge of his campaign, just like Bush was not in charge of this administration. I think its time for the Republicans to find another candidate. How about Jimmy Breaux?

It's so sad to see how petty John McCain has become. His strategy is so high school -- because he's lacking in substance, statesmanship, intelligence, charisma and attractiveness relative to his opponent (i.e., he's a singularly ordinary man in every way except for his tremendous courage as a POW), he has been reduced to appeal to all the small, insecure, ordinary Americans out there who relish the chance to attack someone who has these traits in abundance. How can anybody feel good about this base manifestation of jealousy? John, please get yourself back on the high road.

I don't think Obama should even debate the guy. What is the point??

And all these people saying it's racist or antiGod or what have you...stop it!

These were just insults. They're not Presidential. They're insulting of Obama, Obama supporters like me, hell, even reporters and the office.

Your right he shouldn't debate him...he would look like the ignorant empty sutit he is....Its like when I try to start a real debate on here and only get insulted instead of any substance....because people can't back up hwta they say with facts.

Friend, you've hit the nail on the head: McCain's ads are so high school--and since when has high school failed to capture the essence of our political life? I'm convinced one reason Clinton (the first one) beat back Ken Starr is that we all liked Bad Boy Billy a lot better than Teachers' Pet Kenny. Georgie Bush played the role of everybody's nickname-giving sidekick when he ran against straight-A student Al Gore, and his handlers neatly portrayed John Kerry as the rich kid in the Lord Fauntleroy suit from the Our Gang comedies. Obama narrowly defeated Tracey Flick for the nomination, and now Bad Boy Johnny McCain is taking potshots at Prom King Barry. Laugh at all this at our peril, Dems. Childish isn't a losing proposition in our election history.

If you are lame enough to get caught how does that make you a hero. It seems the price of heroism is about as low as the price of a member of congress.

forget highschool. High Schoolers no longer hang out at the sandbox at the local playground. McCain's strategy is more preschool/elementary.

Okay, so McCain compares Obama to Moses.

Make an ad putting McCain next to Grandpa from the Simpsons.

Talk about funny!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:16 AM on 08/02/2008

Make an ad with snips of all these characters and read: Senator McCain, please join the REAL us and help us solve America's challenges"

Or : " Senator McCain when will you leave that world and return to America?"

OR : " JM can not lead this country becuse he's stuck in another world"

This has been the dumbest week in the history of Presidential politics. It will sink McCain on its own. It has to, or God help us all.

The ad is a stinker, no doubt. But what's up with the segment that has BO saying, "You will receive an epiphany. You will say to yourself, I have to vote for Barack"? Was he setting up a joke or something?

I think that may have been a reactionary speech to Hilary's "The heavens will open, celestial choirs will sing" attacks on him.

Semi LOL, rather LIKE the MOSES ad, think it comes off as "semi funny/positive" emphasizing waht McC sees as HIS opposition and how little HE can actually do AGAINST someone found so "charismatic" and TRUSTED by the voters who ARE SEEKING CHANGE from the politic of OLD !!!
As for the barrage of "attack ads/quips/disgruntlements" right down the McC's CLAIMING Obama "played the race card", SO CLINTONIAN , and is the campaign that Hillary LOST WITH !!! They , the McC cmapers even admit that indeed they watched/took notes from the CLINTONS and have REFINED the CLINTON TACTICs , resolving not to make the "mistakes" the Clintons did in execution but indeed, they are !!!
(and amazingy , a small segment of C-supporters still do NOT get it why she(they, for B comes with her) is NOT acceptable as VP selection !!!!

He did say something similar when making fun of Hillary's speech but I still think this has been "messed with". Definitely out of context but I think they have gone one step further.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:54 PM on 08/02/2008

He was doing a parody of something Hillary had said about him in the primaries.

Naturally, it was taken completley out of context.

just like the statement of the waters rising, he was speaking about the environment. all taken out of context. this is beneath high scchool, this is elementary games. but i hope he keeps it up, it makes him look more and more pathetic.

It wasn't him speaking. Do you recall Hillary stating that I'll give you a speech, the clouds will open the the angels will sing and a light will shine down and all will be right with the world....

That's where that came from.....editing done by the repubs.

How are the Christians who support the GOP going to view this ad from McCain?? The ad basically compares the man who brought the Bible the 10 Commandments and led the tribe of Israel through the wilderness for 40 years to the man they would LEAST like to see as president? WOW!! What kind of disconnect is that??

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:08 AM on 08/02/2008

i agree, these ads are actually more positive towards obama than negative. the imagery they choose is positive, the chanting of Obama. these ads say nothing about mccain. especially if you watch them with no sound, they look like ads for obama. who ever is putting these ads together does not know anyhthing about visual imagery.

I think Christians and especially Jews (and maybe Muslims) could take offense because I feel McCain can, in this ad using an out-dated big screen movie, be interpreted as ridiculing the Bible and the faith of many. And of course he will tell us all that he is proud of it. Wonder what the Pope would say?

I now question McCain's faith? Does he have one?

Gifu, it is very scary. As a Christian I think that it is blasphemy. I read bloggers say Obama is our Messiah. How can they say that, what is wrong with those people, it is something wrong when you itiniate the Bible. This is very low of McCain & he is barking up the wrong tree. If McCain gets into office other nations will turn their backs on us which means who is going to help us fight the wars. We can't do it by ourselves. We need to vote for who is going to allow our country to move forward. If McCain becomes president than I say there should be one less bill I will have next year and that will be the CABLE bill because it will be the media's fought for not doing their jobs.

Nice going, McCain. With one video, you've managed to make this election not about the new guy but about your judgment and common decency – and the fact that you don't seem to possess either. It no longer matters who your opponent is. This past week has proven that you do not have the temperament or character to be President of the United States. Buh-by John.

ah , >>>MAJOR BUT in this last week or two of McC whines, HE DID MANAGE TO GET MSM TALKING ABOUT HIM !!! so in (strange but expectable) essence, he got all to focus on HIM and drown out O's messages...All MSM media could do is dither and yak and REPLAY time after time THE ads or remarks and even some of them admitted , and had McC campers on air admitting, THAT TWAS THE IDEA for it gives McC FREE ADVERTISING...problem being, good many have formed more NEGATIVE view OF McC and these whines and ads only spoke to those that NEVER EVER were EVER going to vote O, but McC's hope it influences others as ALL AGREE , NEGATIVE ADVERTISING when given MAJOR MEDIA attention and repeated incessantly clings to minds who do NOT bother to bone up on FACTUALS on their own and take "stuff" on the fly !!! (remember folks, it was about same time in 2004 that the SWIFT BOATERS got THEIR MEDIA BOOST , they paid LITTLE to have those ies repeated incessantly and disected by the talking heads to point where too many actually accepted the Swifties version and furthered the perception that Kerry did NOT have in HIM to fight back--they just ignorred Kerry who WAS taking the higher road and allowed him to BE FURTHER DISCREDITED even when they KNEW BETTER !!!
