Celeb

John McCain's "Celeb" ad, which he portrayed Barack Obama as an intellectually vacant pop star, made several members of the GOP recoil. Most notably, McCain's former campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, derided the spot as trivial and childish.

But Republicans believe they have a winning issue. And on Friday, the Republican National Committee showed no sign of slowing in its push to label Obama as vacuous celebrity.

The committee announced the creation of a new interactive Web site, www.WhoSaidItCelebrityEdition.com, in which users are presented a blind quote and tasked with choosing which celebrity (Obama and three others) said it.

The game does a decent job of furthering the Obama-is-just-another-celeb meme, primarily because the RNC cherry picks the shallowest, most nondescript quotes. For example: "I didn't expect it to come so quickly. It's been hard to keep up with. There's been articles in the papers that say I've got too big for my boots but people who know me say I'm just the same"? (For the record, soccer star David Beckham, not Barack Obama, is the author of that line). Or, "You have only a short period of time in your life to make your mark, and I'm there now." (George Clooney).

But one can easily imagine the Democratic alternative. It would probably look something like this:

Who said the following about the Iraq War: George Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain, or Paul Wolfowitz? "There's no doubt in my mind that once these people are gone that we will be welcomed as liberators."

John McCain's "Celeb" ad, which he portrayed Barack Obama as an intellectually vacant pop star, made several members of the GOP recoil. Most notably, McCain's former campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, der...

Also, I hear he likes ice tea.

Really, this just shows how intellectually bankrupt the right is in America. They don't have any ideas, just whining.

Hopefully the DNC will do a similar ad: who said it: McCain, Bush, or Quayle?

ShamusNYC
Well, normally I would object to making fun of someone who is exhibiting signs of senility, but this man actually hope to be president. So, as far as I'm concerned anything goes. It might be fun to compare MCain to Ronald Reagan and to Keith Richards. The question would be who said the most creative thing, or the wittiest, or who reached the peak of his field on shear skill/talent. They have this in common..... when they say something, the listener says "Huh?" Two of them fail miserably, and one is a genius.

i'm sorry, but i don't see how you can lump Quayle in with these two morons. sure, he's a little rich idiot, but mcbush have a long history of stupidity. the most i remember about the birdbrain is his lack of spellcheck whereas the other two are MAJOR FUCKUPS.

McBush is a gold digger, he has had a fairytail life, thanks to his reach wife, just like many in the Hollywood. I understand McBush's fascination with Hollywood, he fits right in there

I think that ad really disrespects all celebrities. After it ran a person went on one of the news shows and said that ad speaks truth because when you take the celebrity away from a celebrity what is left. He then answered nothing. In other words he was saying that all celebrites are empty slates.

OMG -- I just went there and looked at the quiz. It's so stupid and pointless. I mean COMPLETELY pointless. We could probably make a game of "Who said it? John McCain or a puppet" and start quoting Pinnochio and the muppets and stuff. It would have the exact same relevance.

Obama is a celeb and McCain is an idiot. Which would you choose?

Oh I forgot, the average American voter is an idiot also.

There's a REALLY easy answer to this: a site that asks people to choose whether Bush or McCain said something. Talk about a way to point out how McCain is aligned with EVERYTHING Bush stands for!

So pathetic. I guess it's true what they say -- beauty may be skin deep, but ugly is to the bone.

Nah -- too easy. If the grammar is bad, it's Bush. If there's a "my friends" in the middle, it's McCain.

Oh my goodness, has Mcc's campaign sunk to a childlike mentality of thinking this presidential election is a game? Why are they trying to dwarf the importance of real issues and concerns that effect and affect All of us over such trivial and ridiculous information. All this nonsense says to me is that we have nothing to lose with so much time on our hands let's amuse ourselves because we have no credible candidate, no workable policies, or a constructive agenda. I'm so tired of them insulting not only my intelligence, but the intelligence of every other reasonable American by continuing to dummy down the issues with this utter nonsense. MSM stop being an enabler by reporting on this stupidity and give us true information concerning issues.

they aren't out to insult the intelligent people... they are courting the low-informed voters only and unfortunately it will work..

Don't you guys see. The republicans will win using stuff like this. They realize something that people like you are forgetting and that is that 9 or 10 americans don't have a clue! You cannot tell them that John McCain and his cronies are not good people.

This is what happens when your mouth say you have all this experience then your actions can't show it. Why did the voters not give Mitt Romney or Huckbee a better look. They said a whole lot more than John McCain during the primaries.

I play this game all the time already. here, try one.

A. "This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected. And today, whenever I find myself feeling doubtful or cynical about this possibility, what gives me the most hope is the next generation - the young people whose attitudes and beliefs and openness to change have already made history in this election."

B. "Girl, don’t you worry about all the dough, because a cat is coming straight out of the "NO", ready to rock those shows all the way to Rio. Bring that Brazil booty on the floor."
