I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Celeb

John McCain's "Celeb" ad, which he portrayed Barack Obama as an intellectually vacant pop star, made several members of the GOP recoil. Most notably, McCain's former campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, derided the spot as trivial and childish.

But Republicans believe they have a winning issue. And on Friday, the Republican National Committee showed no sign of slowing in its push to label Obama as vacuous celebrity.

The committee announced the creation of a new interactive Web site, www.WhoSaidItCelebrityEdition.com, in which users are presented a blind quote and tasked with choosing which celebrity (Obama and three others) said it.

The game does a decent job of furthering the Obama-is-just-another-celeb meme, primarily because the RNC cherry picks the shallowest, most nondescript quotes. For example: "I didn't expect it to come so quickly. It's been hard to keep up with. There's been articles in the papers that say I've got too big for my boots but people who know me say I'm just the same"? (For the record, soccer star David Beckham, not Barack Obama, is the author of that line). Or, "You have only a short period of time in your life to make your mark, and I'm there now." (George Clooney).

But one can easily imagine the Democratic alternative. It would probably look something like this:

Who said the following about the Iraq War: George Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain, or Paul Wolfowitz? "There's no doubt in my mind that once these people are gone that we will be welcomed as liberators."

John McCain's "Celeb" ad, which he portrayed Barack Obama as an intellectually vacant pop star, made several members of the GOP recoil. Most notably, McCain's former campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, der...

Its so sad what the Rethugs are doing to a US Senator. I cant believe that rethugs have the nerve to degrade anyone considering how corrupt they are. One of their freaking senators was endited on corruption charges another one was arrested for solitciting sex and they are going to take the name of a US senator and malign him compare him to airheads like Paris and Britney Spears.

So sad and pathetic.

It is kind of funny but don't see how it will fix any of the big 3 issues concerning us right now . . . well I guess I don't see how either candidate has addressed those issues either.

People got so used to having a pariah as a president that they think it became a prerequisite.

I am not sure where the Repubs are going with this. We adore celebs, we idolize celebs. we breathm sleep, eat, and drink celebs. we want to know everything about celebs. what they eat, who does their hair, what brand toothpaste they use, anything and everything!

why? CAUSE WE LOVE OUR CELEBS!!!! We envy them. We want to be just like them. On the covers of mags, being intervviewed, the designer clothes, fancy cars! Hmmmmmmm. so, where is this going with the repubs? This ad will not work.

After the last Prez, we need a Prez the whole world adores!

Exxon just reporte profit with some many zeros, I cannot count that high, and the Repubs are only concerned with Obama's popularity? PLLLLEEEEZZEEEE

I've got one: who said this:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.

carl rove or joseph goebbels?..
... that's right joseph goebbles?

here's another:

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”

who said that? the RNC or Joseph Goebbels?..
...
right again! joseph Goebbels.

i don't mind playing this game with the RNC and John McCain!

"This has promise," the old cronies in the GOP were heard saying, "That webinet could help us yet. Those kids are addicted to it like dope."

The RNC is just plain stupid. They do not respect the American voters ability to see thwm for what they truly are - sham artists. No wonder so many of them that are up for re-election won't be at their convention. They are ashamed!

All I can say is that if Americans as a whole fall for this line of crap from the McCain camp, then they deserve what they get. A larger national debt, more soldiers killed and or wounded, a worsening economy, the US being shunned by the rest of the world, and who knows the way McCain's mind works the possibility of WWIII.

Hmmm, interesting and it mite even work if for the fact that most of the people they are counting on to play this dumb A$$ game can’t even access or own a computer.

The ones that can access the site has already made there minds up on who there voting for.

The R-N-C and John Mc’Cain are overreaching here and they obviously forget the “smarts” (or lack there of) of the people that would play there little game.

They have dug a hole when they dumb-down most of there base.

Much as I hate to say it, it was not too difficult to make Kerry look foolish. They will not have an easy time making Obama look that way. Besides, low information voters generally love celebrities.

Sad, but there are a lot of ignorant people out there that will believe this crap. Just look how the Republicans have ran their campaigns, it has worked in the past and unless this nation can show they are sick of this type of useless drivel then it will work again. A real sad commentary on us as a nation.
