Us Airways

Wall Street Journal:

Charging for checked luggage and legroom isn't enough for some carriers -- starting today, coach passengers flying aboard US Airways Inc. must pay for a drink of water.

This morning, US Airways began charging fliers $2 for bottled water and sodas and $1 for teas and coffees. First class members, trans-Atlantic passengers and a select group of others are exempt from the extra fees.

How else will the management be able to pay themselves a bonus check ?

This really makes sense. I thought that the reason they served water soon after take-off was because flying could cause dehydration.
Can't wait till they have to start landing at every third airport because of passed out people on their flights. Of course they will charge for that too.

They already DO charge you every time they touch down. Even on a direct flight, which is a flight all the way through that makes a stop on the way. It's called a segment tax.

VIVE THE MILE HIGH CLUB
Come. Fly With U.S.

For those of you who fly with us regularly you may have noticed some changes. We have made the restrooms slightly larger. You and a friend will soon be able to share exclusive use of our restrooms for your personal pleasure.

Coming soon $5,000 will buy you:
1. Twenty minutes for two in one of our specially modified restrooms.
2. An attendant will vouchsafe your privacy. This means no rude knocks at the door.
3. In aircraft having capacious flight decks (where the pilot is) you and your mate will "dine at the Captain's table," haute cuisine the standard. Because smaller aircraft will disallow this, a fine dining experience in a destination city will be provided. It will be on U.S. In addition, the Captain will bring a bottle of fine wine to you as you continue your flight with U.S.
4. If you are flying coach you may be upgraded to business or first class. Complementary bottles of water and other beverages of your choice will be served at your request. There will be no limit.
5.. A photo of you, your significant other, and the Captain with documentation of your "Flying High" will be provided.

Yes, another creative way to support your flying pleasure and our bottom line. This just one of the ways we tell your and your loved ones to go fly yourselves.

My wife worked for then America West, now USAir. After coming out of reorganization the second time AWA went into the toilet. The penny pinching MBA's that are now running most airlines (esp. USAir) think only one thing. How to make the next bonus.

I for one quit flying USWorst years ago. The down side to seeing the worst airline in the US go broke is, our government, in their infinite wisdom will move to save the FUBAR airline using our hard earned tax money. we are in deep doo-doo folks!

In Arizona it is unlawful to refuse a person a glass of water.
Maybe they could face a class action suit.

It's all in the heads of the executives at US Airways. They would rather let their customers suffer from thirst than not having a martini in their hands.

And with that, I officially *never* fly US Air again.

THey've always been one of the worst with taking away amenities and treating people like cattle, but this last move is the last straw in terms of ever even considering them.

Why can't they copy the business models of the international carriers (JAL, Singapore, Qantas, Lufthansa) to be successful? There's a reason the domestic airlines are struggling--they refuse to use a business model that works.

What will become of US airlines industry is a single-carrier giant corporation. This is when only the very wealthy can afford to get their meals at 35,000 feet above.

No, flying isn't what it once was and yes; it is becoming comparable to bus travel but that's only because it's comparable to bus travel. Deregulation killed traditional flying and Americans embraced deregulation with a passion because it let them fly cross country for

3 years ago I flew AA to from DFW to Tokyo and back Business class. (Business class $4000....Economy is around $700) and they ran out of food before they came to me..and I was sitting at the back row of Business class. Meat, Fish, Chicken all gone. They said the only thing left for me was Japanese noodles.

I was livid.,.,..but I can't do anything.. with they may accuse me of air rage and what not... so I went to the economy section and said fairly loudly to thje flight attendant there if she has any food left since they ran out of food in the business class. And she brought me some pork stuff from the economy.

BTW..a 13 hr flight from Tokyo and to Dallas and there is only 1 full meal..even in Business class...and they ran out of that too.

Charming AA. True story.

Carly, please try Korean Airlines (KAL) out of Dallas if you head to Tokyo again and if you don't mind a stopover in Seoul. KAL is a GREAT airline with great food and multiple meals (they never ran out when I've flown KAL), great service (even in coach) and very lovely, very courteous, young Korean female flight attendants. I stopped flying US-based air carriers to overseas destinations years ago. Over the past few years, I've flown KAL, Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cathay Pacific to Asian destinations and Air France to Paris. The last domestic airline I flew to an international destination was Northwest to Manila in 2002 and it was terrible, with crabby, matronly flight attendants (seniority first for the international routes I suppose) and so-so food quality. I've flown only international carriers since. America's airline industry, with a few exceptions, is on a serious decline in service and quality!

I think, they should charge by how thirsty a passenger is. IF they are really thirsty charge them more

I say cut down on the air conditioning a notch and see the sales of water go through the roof!

Not a bad idea.
