WSJ: Obama May Be Too Thin To Be President

The Wall Street Journal's Amy Chozick warns Barack Obama of another potentially elitist personal trait -- he's too thin:

Speaking to donors at a San Diego fund-raiser last month, Barack Obama reassured the crowd that he wouldn't give in to Republican tactics to throw his candidacy off track.

"Listen, I'm skinny but I'm tough," Sen. Obama said.

But in a nation in which 66% of the voting-age population is overweight and 32% is obese, could Sen. Obama's skinniness be a liability? Despite his visits to waffle houses, ice-cream parlors and greasy-spoon diners around the country, his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them.

The candidate has been criticized by opponents for appearing elitist or out of touch with average Americans. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted in July shows Sen. Obama still lags behind Republican John McCain among white men and suburban women who say they can't relate to his background or perceived values.

Republicans must be truly frightened to try such a ridiculous gambit. The last time I checked their little poll, 80% of the people agreed with me. The total motivation for the republican party is fear. They try to frighten the rest of us into doing their will, against our own interests, because they themselves are so very, very afraid. They're afraid that they won't make enough money or have enough oil or be protected from all the financial struggles of life that the rest of us must deal with. They're afraid that they won't have enough houses or cars or power to force others to their will. They lay awake at night and worry that they might have to live as other people do. They worry about all the wrong things. They could be deeply concerned that their souls are being eaten away by greed and that they have lost the capacity to love their fellow human beings. They use their fear----and their party policies----to persuade people who have less wealth that they are the only ones who love God the best and that all of society will collapse without them being in power. The very fact that they try to sell themselves as God's favorites is proof that they have failed to connect with the Love that is God Almighty. The thing they spend all their time and treasure trying to sell is the very thing that consumes their energy, thoughts, and lives-----FEAR!
