The Wall Street Journal's Amy Chozick warns Barack Obama of another potentially elitist personal trait -- he's too thin:

Speaking to donors at a San Diego fund-raiser last month, Barack Obama reassured the crowd that he wouldn't give in to Republican tactics to throw his candidacy off track.

"Listen, I'm skinny but I'm tough," Sen. Obama said.

But in a nation in which 66% of the voting-age population is overweight and 32% is obese, could Sen. Obama's skinniness be a liability? Despite his visits to waffle houses, ice-cream parlors and greasy-spoon diners around the country, his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them.

The candidate has been criticized by opponents for appearing elitist or out of touch with average Americans. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted in July shows Sen. Obama still lags behind Republican John McCain among white men and suburban women who say they can't relate to his background or perceived values.

WTF?! perfect example of when thier is nothing they will pull at straws to use something anything against Obama. Now it's his weight that makes him elitist. the sad part is if they would report about Obama accuratly they will see how just like everyone else he is...this is a man who during his campaigne run still makes time to go to dance recitals, soccer games and date night with his wife....Why don't they just go ahead and just say Obama is different from you becuase he is black. if people will just get past his skin tone then they will realize that he is just like them. Who many americans grew up in a single parent home? Workered thier way through college....etc

Well, personally I have trouble relating to that stick figure married to John McCain. And let's not even mention her "Children of the Corn" eyes and over-processed hair.

Congratulations, Rupert! Now maybe you should grab your NY Post story about the 44-pound cat and run it in the Politics section of the Journal. Your crusade to trivialize American media is going strong!

He's "elitist." He's "inexperienced." He's "unpatriotic." He's "arrogant" and "presumptuous." He's an unsubstantive "celebrity" like Brittany and Paris. He's "radical." He's "too thin."

What exactly do you think the Republicans are trying to say about Barack Obama? Why won't they just come out and say what they mean instead of throwing all these code words around?

this is what happens when murdoch buys respectable newspapers.

Does anyone seriously not take that for the code words they actually are?

Bill Bishop book out called, THE BIG SORT: WHY THE CLUSTERING OF LIKE-MINDED AMERICA IS TEARING US APART.

Bishop contends that as Americans have moved over the past three decades, they have clustered in communities of sameness, among people with similar ways of life, beliefs, and in the end, politics. Consequences of the Big Sort are dire: balkanized communities whose inhabitants find other Americans to be culturally incomprehensible; a growing intolerance for political differences that has made national consensus impossible; and politics so polarized that Congress is stymied and elections are no longer just contests over policies, but bitter choices between ways of life. In a recent interview he said, "People (today) choose to read stuff, live places, look at things that reinforce their own beliefs. So it doesn't matter whether there are two newspapers or 40 news channels, you're going to pick the stuff that reinforces what YOU think. We live with mirrors and that's what campaigns are doing now--they're putting a big mirror in front of you--they're saying 'vote for you!' ...(And the people's attitude is) 'He/she represents us!'...Politics is not about issues today, it's about lifestyle."

I say, there there are a lot of wolves out there who will do all they can to convince us voters that the sheep will eat us if we pick them.

People are not getting what this WSJ (NewsCorp, Murdoch) article is suggesting. This is another example of the sometimes subtle suggestive way in which the MSM is pushing this narrative that "he's not like us".
Please read Bob Cesca's blog ("He's not one of us") here on HuffPost. Through words and images this is a mainstream theme repeated over and over. Readers here are quick to find this article too silly and you are right but it's part of this larger "experiment" if you listen to the punditry and read the editorials that are injecting this "he's not like us" tact .You will be amazed at the subliminal messaging that's going on. It may ultimately be very effective in taking Obama down we should remain aware of it and try to keep it from happening.
