Christina Applegate Cancer Diagnosis Confirmed By Publicist

LOS ANGELES -- Christina Applegate is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, but the disease was caught early and the actress is expected to fully recover, her publicist said.

The Emmy winner's cancer was detected through an MRI ordered by a doctor and is not life-threatening, publicist Ame Van Iden said in a statement Saturday.

Applegate is scheduled to appear on a one-hour television special, "Stand Up To Cancer," to be aired on ABC, CBS and NBC on Sept. 5 to raise funds for cancer research.

The 36-year-old actress has been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the show "Samantha Who?", in which she plays a woman who wakes from a coma with no memory of who she is.

I really hope the cancer she has is treatable. For the few here that still managed to find something mean to say, what's wrong with you. I have no idea what this women's politics are but even if I disagreed with her I would never wish cancer on someone.

The Susan G. Komen foundation every year raises money to fight breast cancer. In major cities across the country the Komen people put on a 5K run and a 60 mile 3-day walk. I've never known anyone with breast cancer but I'm doing the walk this year with some Marines from my unit. Even if you don't want to support me, find someone in your area and support them donations as little as a dollar are accepted.

My thoughts and prayers are with her. I've loved each and every one of her shows from MWC to Jessie to Samantha Who. Comedy is a difficult art, and she carries it off with such ease. There is also a sweetness and vulnerability to "Samantha Who" that speaks well of the actor and the writers.

HELP SOMEONE ELSE GET ONE..ANYTH­ING THAT WILL GET WOMEN IN TO A MAMMOGRAM. Ms Applegate is 36 years old, that is very young, the incidence of bst ca is getting higher at young ages. The baseline mammogram should be done at 40. Maybe it should be lower. We need to start pressuring insurance cats to bring down the age that they will support mammograms. Best wishes for Christina. She is one of the most under-appreciated actors working. Perhaps she's under-appreciated because she remains off the radar of celebrity scandal. This could be because of her work ethic and reportedly kind and modest personality. She deserves long-term health, a few more Emmys, a serious chance at the big screen and as much happiness as she gives untold others.
