From the Associated Press:

LOS ANGELES -- Christina Applegate is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, but the disease was caught early and the actress is expected to fully recover, her publicist said.

The Emmy winner's cancer was detected through an MRI ordered by a doctor and is not life-threatening, publicist Ame Van Iden said in a statement Saturday.

Applegate is scheduled to appear on a one-hour television special, "Stand Up To Cancer," to be aired on ABC, CBS and NBC on Sept. 5 to raise funds for cancer research.

The 36-year-old actress has been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the show "Samantha Who?", in which she plays a woman who wakes from a coma with no memory of who she is.

Good luck with everything! Just be thankful SAG has excellent health care plan. She has enough money to hopefully beat this.

This poor woman. I feel really bad for her. The recent death of her ex-boyfriend and now this. I don't usually have a lot of pity for celebs, but she hasn't ever done anything bad to anyone that I know of. Not that bad things don't happen to good people, but come on. Fight this stuff, Christina!

As a four and a half year breast cancer survivor, I wish her the best. I don't know if she needs chemotherapy but I am sure she has the benefit of the best care in the world.

Although the headline regarding Ms. Applegate's diagnosis was disheartening to read and as a cancer survivor of non-hoskins lymphoma I wish you speedy recovery and fight the fight with spirits held high. As I use to say, this is just one of many hurdles to test your faith in life or as I put it, Gods hurdles.

But there is one aspect of the story that I'd like to know here within this forum is your access to the MRI that your doctor as stated, "Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI". I wonder if you had to go through the process that the vast majority go through such as xray, cat-scans, along with many other tests before before one can get approval to get a MRI which could take weeks or even months. Now we all know that given your financial status compared to most would allow to bypass the normal process and pay out-of-pocket for the MRI. My experience with this process and the true benefits that the MRI can provide in a time of need. This is test that on the flip side of the coin that doctors have their hands tied or cost them financially to request.

And if that is the case, that people with lots of money can bypass the lengthy time and not lose prescious time on other methods before a doctor will be able to get approval, perhaps these same people with money could start a fund which would help their fellow breast cancer women to get the best treatment in a quick manner to save a life.

maybe she didn't know about all that and thought it was normal... she's a person, how does she know what treatments are to be passed on to the consumer? I got an MRI right at the bat because the ER thought I had a blood clot to my heart.. Yes, I had insurance at the time, but I don't think I have any major cash laying around that would make me special. Perhaps it depends on the hospital you go to.

And this is the reason that republicans fight against universal health care. they are afraid they will lose access to their privileged status.

Depending on the type of breast abnormality and family history sometimes the other test are not ordered and they send you straight to MRI. I know someone whose family history and form of breast cancer dictates that all abnormalities by looked at by MRI because mammogram and x-ray will not detect it.

Good luck Ms. Applegate I hope you make a speedy and full recovery.

falco,

it's obvious that Ms. Applegate would have the funds to get any medical test she needed based on her doctors recommendations and what would a fund do to benefit the number of individuals looking for medical answers that the MRI test answers very clearly. My comment here was based on the fact that doctors are mandated by the insurance industry how to treat individuals not by what the doctors recommend but by cost. The insurance industry isn't looking at the best or quickest treatments to help the individual and a doctor that knows this test is the only one to get to the bottom line for treatment even if the individual has insurance has to rise holy hell to get this test done. Just so I'm clear it has nothing to do if you have money or not other than the family without goes without.

I do understand why this is news. I don't understand why it's on the top right hand corner of your web page. That's a little too much, even for the HuffPo Entertainment section.

Having said that, I wish for her a full and speedy recovery.

It's entertainment, why isn't it news on this section. Everyone needs to understand that sections are sections and the HP is taping into the entertainment area......people are interested in that too... why not? News papers does it all that time, get over it!

Maybe it's not world news, but if more young women read the story because it's on the front page and get themselves tested, that can only be a good thing.

I wish her a fast recovery.

One of my favorite "celebrities".
A fine comedic actress not drawn by vanity to the bright lights of a thousand camera flashes. And from the Interviews I've heard, a pretty decent person.

I'll think of her often and wish her well.

Hope everything goes well. I have a friend currently dealing with cancer and others who beat it or didn't. Stories like this hit very close to home.
