I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Jimmy Justice

He calls himself "Jimmy Justice," a self-styled "cop-arazzi," armed only with a video camera as he prowls the streets of New York looking for law enforcement officers who are breaking the law. His targets are illegally parked city government vehicles -- particularly cars of traffic cops blocking bus stops, sitting in "no parking" zones or double-parked.

Cop cars blocking fire hydrants make him particularly incensed.

"Something like that is just despicable," Jimmy fumed, pointing to a police enforcement vehicle parked next to a fire hydrant on 33rd Street on Manhattan's West Side on a muggy July afternoon. "They're never allowed to block a fire hydrant -- but they do it."

He posts his best videos on YouTube and sends regular e-mail to the union representing the city's traffic enforcement agents, pointing out the most egregious parking offenses. And he has gotten results, he said, with some parking enforcers being fined because of his videos.

"I'm using a video camera as a weapon," he said. "I believe a video does not lie."

Keep reading here.

This might not be a representation of all his videos but how come all the cops he confronts here are non-white?!

Any one knows what the qualifications and training these so-called cops are received?

Should there be at least one Jimmy Justice in every city of America?

Jimmy is not aggressive enough! We would never know about the beatings of handcuffed people and the violent attack on the bikers without the cameras. We should all film the cops at their every violation of the law. Especially their hatred and violence against bike riders and pedestrians - cops never ticket the police cars or any other car that block the pedestrian crossings forcing walkers into the oncoming traffic. In spite of horrendous traffic jams and their high salaries, cops are still allowed to park their private cars free on midtown Sixth Ave, Seventh Ave, etc., blocking traffic for miles. If Bloomberg can't deal with that, there will be ways to do that with cameras.

i love it. We have one of the very few countries in the world where citizens are allowed to do this stuff. It's a small thing but says a lot about our republic.

These law enforcement/city government workers are confusing themselves with W, who actually IS above the law.

I support good law enforcement, but it seems as though the cops are as bad as the other thugs of late. That is not all encompassing, and many are just good, hard-working cops, but many use and abuse their positions.

Words for the Wise:

I got (2) parking tickets in NYC over the course of 2005-2007 while visiting, for small infractions like parking next to a traffic cone, and parking next to 'no parking" sign. I did not pay these fines. I have never heard one word. I had out of State plates and it was a company car. I kept waiting for the "offense" to haunt me and it never has.

So, lesson is: Don't pay the fine in NYC.

good! the cops, esp in nyc who get away with EVERYTHING, need someone to keep them in check, especially if their employers either refuse or fail to do so. good for you, jimmy!

There should always be people with cameras near cops, and not only in ritzy neighborhoods mostly populated by white people... Unfortunately, Jimmy is nothing more than a publicity stunt, and that's why he almost exclusively targets female traffic cops (lowest risk.)

Hey Jimmy, want to become my hero? Film the thugs who harass minorities, women and gays all the time, the REAL pigs...

a true classic, now which one of those officers would be able to run down a criminal or even have the desire to, do they make you feel safe

Great idea, but "Jimmy" is a bit aggressive.

1. Free speech.
2. No less aggressive than some police.

Prediction: Jimmy's gonna end up getting Tasered about 50 times on some pretext or other.
