Florida And Michigan

New York Timers:

It seems like another lifetime ago, but remember all the fuss about Michigan and Florida?

After those states held their primaries in violation of Democratic Party rules, the party cracked down on them and said their delegates would not have a voice at the national convention in Denver. Then in May, the rules committee agreed to let their delegates have half a vote each.

Now Senator Barack Obama, the party's presumptive nominee, has asked the credentials committee to let the two states have full voting rights at the convention after all.

The request is likely to be granted since it comes from the all-but-certain nominee, who now controls the party apparatus.

As long as no one named Chad is allowed to vote in FL. I'd be okay with it.

This is great news!

It was unfortunate that the voters who turned out in Florida and Michigan were "disenfranchised" -- no matter what the reasoning was. I still believe (and I may be one of the very few) that both Senator Obama and Senator Clinton are wonderful people who ran a tough campaign and they BOTH got a little dirty with their politics. Unfortunately, that has been the nature of the game from day one.

Very interesting to note that all the vitriol on these blogs when HRC and supporters demanded that the voters of MI & FL should not be disenfranchised (if only for the practical reason that the Dem nominee must win FL & MI), they were called all sorts of names. Now that magnanimous BO wants them to have full voting rights (gee, I remember some kind of nasty Dem Party committee meeting where HRC's supporters were vilified).

All's well that ends well, I guess but more and more I feel like I am falling, along with Alice, down a never ending rabbit hole of surrealism and insanity.

It is great news, which is why the tr0lls are trying and failing to spin it as something negative. Their desperation is proof that a planned McCaln attack was out maneuvered again by the "smart" candidate.

Gee, wouldn't it be nice for a change to have a smart President?

I predicted this months ago. It was obvious the strategy would be to keep up the momentum partially by denying FL and MI. The Supers knew without these 2 states that H-illary could not win. So they swing to Barry; then he allows them to be seated.... and he calls McC cynical?

Sorry, he was against it when it would have meant that invalid votes might have influenced the outcome of the election. The situations in which his stands are being made are different adn to influence two different things. What sort of person wants invalid votes to be treated as valid? Someone lacking principles, like Hillary Clinton.

O's supporting it now because it doesn't effect out come of nomination--hence the votes are still "invalid" re: affecting the outcome, and is doign it like probably every major Party figure wants done as a move to try to keep Dem support in the next round where votes by regular people will "count."

Is this really so hard for you people, or are you, as I suspect, just the types looking to bash Obama for any reason you can think of?

invalid votes? why were they invalid? because he took himself off the Michigan ballot because he knew he was going to lose. 1.7 million people voted in Florida. that's more than have ever voted in a Dem primary ever. that's more people than voted for obama in all the caucuses that he won -- combined. there was nothing invalid about their votes except that they voted against him. each person who voted was registered and took the trouble to express his/her preference.

I see we had no takers to the Republican/PUMA challenge, you're not all just cowards, are you? You're not just mindless_hating echo machines, are you?

Can't a single one of you give one or more honest and truthful affirmative reasons why anyone should vote for McCaln? So far, none have stepped up to the plate...is it too much for your little reptilian brains to handle?

Come on Republicans and PUMAs, prove you' have the ability to reason even though, from your posts, I doubt any of you can.

Come on, I dare you to prove me wrong.

AdLib...
Excuse me...
Who has to prove what to whom?
Skip the insults...
Get to the facts...
Sen Obama is the GREAT unknown in this race...Based upon his track record in the legislature...
I ask you- WHO HAS TO PROVE WHAT TO WHOM???
I DARESAY OBAMA SUPPORTERS HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO...IF THEY CAN HANDLE IT.

There are several candidates- in Addition to Sen McCAin that voters can choose to vote for.

Read this article- no matter who you choose to vote for in November...
Here are some of the reasons people WILL NOT vote for Sen Obama.

If you can spare a moment from your busy campaigning schedule...Kindly review Obama’s voting (NOT SPEAKING) record. Actions don’t lie.

The ramifications of Sen Obama’s past legislative votes make it VERY CLEAR who Sen Obama supports and protects- and its not the average citizens/voters of our country.

LOL! Your response to giving an affirmative reason to vote for McCaln is "I don't have to"?

Hilarious, you advertise an embarrassing intellectual deficiency by doing so and your logic is tortured. And in inferred statement that you actually CAN'T come up with a single reason to vote for him.

Since you're apparently not too informed about these things, a presidential election is principally between two people. If it was between 0bama and, say, Stalin, you would vote for Stalin because it's not about who the person is you're voting for and what he'd do, you just blindly vote for "the other guy" instead of 0bama?

Very telling and very sad. You failed the challenge, try again.

The only people who will suffer for 4 years, if a democrat DOES NOT win this election is the middle class and the poor. They will not get their tax cuts. The people who will suffer are the people who will not be able to afford health care for themselves, and their children. It is the students who will not be able to afford to go to college who will suffer. It is the students in elementary school, and highschool, who are right now attending FAILING schools which are NOT teaching them properly, these student will be the ones who suffer.

There are alot of democrats in this country who cannot afford to wait for 4 years just to vote for Hillary, because by that time, they could be homeless, jobless, they or their kids could get sick, and they will have no healthcare coverage. Student can't wait for another 4 years to be able to afford to go to college. Elementary school, and highschool students can't afford to wait for another 4 years before their schools are improved.

4 years is too long to wait around for anyone, especially for Hillary, who is a multimillionaire with $50 million dollars in the bank, a woman who does not have to think twice before going to the doctors, because she has health coverage, a woman who does not have to worry about how she is going to pay her mortgage because she has $50 million dollars sitting in her bank account.

Strange and disjointed post. I understand why McCain cannot be President, but I don't know what that has to do with HRC and her being able to afford health insurance. Besides there being tens of millions of Americans who can afford their mortgages and insurance premiums, why single out the one person in Congress who has spent the last 20 years trying to get the country to address the problem of health care, costs, access, universal insurance?

Perhaps you can make a better argument by actually stating what it is you want to say. It's obvious you don't know what you want to say or else you would be able to state it clearly.
