Obama made yet another Obama Shift™ (no, no, no, not a flip flop, no way, nuh uh) and said to tap oil reserves.
Just remember, it's not a flip flop. it's the Obama Shift™.
The ANSWER for an energy efficent Future is HERE NOW staring us right in the Face. . . But
we can't go NUCLEAR . . Wow! did you see the China Syndrome? . . Hello it's not 1968.
France does it, China does it, Japan does it, India does it, . . But NO we don't DO IT. DUH!
The U.S. is the world leader in the amount of electricity produced by nuclear. We produce much more than the French, but because we are so much larger than them, our nuclear production is only about 20% of our total, and theirs is around 80%. If we suddenly took all of our nuclear plants offline, our economy would collapse. However, the nuclear industry requires a huge public subsidy. The prices for electricity charged to consumers does not include the cost to taxpayers for nuclear. With today's technology in alternative energy, there are cheaper and faster ways to add to our energy infrastructure, but the GOP and Bush are holding the nation hostage to big oil. It takes 60 votes for a bill to clear the Senate, and McCain and his pals won't let any progress happen.
One more time, we see a complete and total contrast between the incompetent McCain and the visionary Obama. How many days until the election?
"There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy," Obama said. "Making sure your tires are properly inflated – simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling – if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You'd actually save just as much!"
O's real energy policy
The One said ...
"First, we will help states like Michigan build the fuel-efficient cars we need, and we will get one million 150 mile-per-gallon plug-in hybrids on our roads within six years."
And he will convince BIG AUTO to give those one million cars away?
THIS is why he can't afford to do town hall debates.
He's picking this stuff out of David Axelrod's butt without proper credit.
He's FOS.
did he say he was going to ask the auto companies to give the cars away?
He never said that he was going to give cars away. If you weren't so focused on the butts of others you might have noticed that.
YEAH! Where's HRC with SERIOUS solutions like a gas tax holiday?
I miss the Clintons. They KNEW how to pander.

interesting... instead of citing Mc C ain's energy plan as a foil to 0bama's, the righties are using B ush's policy statements from 2003. I wonder why that is... is it a tacit admission that by golly YES Mc Same WILL be 4 more years of the shrub!
I have yet to see a rational rebuttal to the speech...
O's energy address was brilliant ... in substantive value & delivery ... everybody should watch his speech in its entirety! Mc & his supporters have no response, they've been busy peddling BS!!
The ReThug congressional members are afraid to go home and face their constituients, probably hate their wives too!!
They have nothing innovative, no issue ... they've swindled all they needed!
They are just looking for a reason not to go to the repug convention.
"Rethugs", "McSame"
Well, of course it's going to be four more years of the same thing!
Obama doesn't have an energy plan. Yesterday he decided offshore drilling was OK. He's floundering and watching polls to try and guess what his position ought to be tomorrow.
hydenorhare is exactly right. The last place Obama wants to get caught is in a debate.
Obama energy policy:
'Inflate your tires'
'Ride a bike'
'Give your car a tune-up'
'Do as I say, NOT as I do'
armadillious
Try reading - www.pickensplan.com for an explanation as to how these things can be achieved.

Pickens is for drilling.
Egobama is not.
Pickens is for coal.
Egobama is not.
Pickens is for nuclear.
Egobama is not.
Pickens is for the USA.
I know what "Swiftboat" Pickens stands for, and I don't want anything to do with it. Neither do most Americans, because they respect our veterans.
You're a liar ... "an explanation as to how 'these things' can be achieved" O gave you all that today!! As for pickens ... geez, is he running for POTUS ... has he taken Mc's place, where is Mc's explanation of 26 yrs of do nothing policies!!??
That man's tv ad, he states we cannot drill our way out of this energy crisis!
Be sure to inform pickens that you fully support him for POTUS 'cause Mc is just unacceptable and he has at least one visionary idea.
I'm sorry, the rest of us don't swoon when Obama speaks.
We were trying to hear him actually say something.
If he keeps flip flopping people are going to get bored. He needs to stop flipping flopping.
as opposed to who? who else is in the race that i dont see? because McC ain is a professor of flopping as a grad course.....
This Guy is such a Phoney! the BoogieMan ExxonMobil does not exist. Yeah in the 4th quarter they made about a 7% profit which is made mostly by their shareholders, if you have a 401K that means you. This 7% totalled about 11+ billion, BUT!!! they paid TAXES ot 32+ Billion to the GOVRNMENT, so what does that make the GOV? the MOTHER of ALL BOOGIEMEN????? I inflated my tires . so what!
aww your precious Exxon had to pay taxes. How much of a tax break did they get?
ASSUMING that your figures are correct (since you don't quote any source for them), How much does EXXON have to make, when we're paying 4.20 a gallon for gas, in order to pay 32+billion in taxes, especially when you consider that most corporations only pay of fraction of the percentage of taxes that you and I pay, and the fact that they have gotten huge tax breaks from the Bush administration.
Some how I can't work up too much sympathy for these corporations because I am not--like you apparently are-- independently wealthy, and must pay a larger percentage of my income in taxes than these corporations do. Silly me, I'd rather for Exxon to be paying the taxes rather than me since I'm not getting part of theseir nearly $12 billion in profits in just one quarter, and I'm paying more for everything, including gas, so I'm actually paying Exxon to get richer.
ANDD Chiman1, SO ARE YOU. I want some of my money back from Exxon too!!
Great speech.
Now let's hear MCCain say Obama has no energy plan. However, being a liar he probably will.
Gore was right. The major party infrastructure hasn't a clue, although Obama is edging closer.
All electric vehicles already work -- I drove the coolest sports car ever in 1998, the GM EV-1, and we were about to buy an Electric RAV-4 when they were discontinued.
Between 60-75% of daily trips are perfect for a full size all-electric vehicle; even if we only cut our gas-car trips by 50% by using all electric, imagine what gas prices for the losers stuck with ICE (internal combustion engine) cars would be! (Gas, currently, is about $0.20-$0.25 per mile for gas; electrics less than $0.02 per mile!) Toss some solar cells on the roof (I have a second at $40 per month for 25 years; plus an additional $25 per month for electricity over that because we added central air to our house. ) And you have almost free fuel without the carbon overhead or being held hostage by foreign oil.
NEITHER PARTY is willing to do the right thing, and Declare a WAR ON OIL to replace the War for Oil . . . Although, as noted, Obama seems to be edging his way there!
Today, we discovered what Barack Obama considers a genuine emergency — a drop in the polls:
Democrat Barack Obama called today for tapping the nation’s strategic oil reserves to help drive down gasoline prices, a shift from his previous position on the issue.
The reversal is the second refinement in Obama’s energy policy. Last week, he said that he would reluctantly consider accepting some offshore oil drilling. Obama had previously said he opposed such drilling, which is strongly backed by rival John McCain, who has urged that states be allowed to decide whether to drill.
I was privileged to attend Barack's speech in Lansing, MI today..And I must say I am very impressed on his take on what we can do to move our country toward energy-independance and a greener future for us all. Of course there were some details of the "hows" that weren't gone into in the depth that I would have liked. but hey, the man cant exactly fit EVERYTHING into one speech, but for me at least he touched on most of the details that I needed him to. I would suggest to the nay-sayers here that have only watched theis edited clip to watch the entire speech before they rush to judgement. I have been a luke-warm supporter of Baracks since Hillary stepped out of the race, but after witnessing him speak passionately, and informatively on subjects that go right to the heart of Michigans future, well lets just say I will be much more confortable pulling the lever for him in November.
Obama's plan:
fill tires with air.
any questions?
