Talking Points Memo:

Ten senior Hess Corporation executives and/or members of the Hess family each gave $28,500 to the joint RNC-McCain fundraising committee, just days after McCain reversed himself to favor offshore drilling, according to Federal Election Commission reports.

Nine of these contributions, seven from Hess executives and two from members of the Hess family, came on the same day, June 24th, the records show. The total collected in the wake of McCain's reversal for the fund, called McCain Victory 2008, from Hess execs and family is $285,000.

They are not going to drill off coast, they just want the leases so their bottom line will be in the billions.
Kinda like giving a farmer money not to plant a crop.

of course.they try to to influence all politicians.they donate to obama ,too, but, not nearly as much as mccain.why?because so far ,obama has not kissed their rears, and they are beginning to see that he cant be bought.look for them to pore a lot more into the rnc, too.nearly the entire party is corrupt, except a select few, like hagel.

Companies act in their own self interest - this isn't news. Trial lawyers donate preferentially by far to Obama. If he gave a big speech against tort reform, they would probably donate even more. We would not be surprised.

I'm so surprised...NOT!!!
The Republican talking points that the oil platforms were not affected by Katrina or Rita are lies. According to the May 2006 U.S. Minerals Management Service offshore damage assessment, 113 platforms were totally destroyed, and 457 pipelines damaged, 101 of those major lines with 10 inches or larger diameter.” In addition the MMS reports that Katrina and Rita caused 124 offshore spills for a total of 743,700 gallons of oil. 554,400 gallons were crude oil and condensate from platforms, rigs and pipelines, and 189,000 gallons were refined products from platforms and rigs. The threshold for what is considered a major spill is 100,000 gallons. Remember the huge bump in gas prices right after Katrina and the oil execs said it was because the oil platforms and refineries were destroyed or damaged in the hurricanes?

Who cares. Do you not think the oil companies are funding drilling opposition so prices will stay high? Why in the world would oil companies want to drill more? It costs money to drill. It will make more available oil on the market; thus, dropping the price. Why would a company want to lower the price of their product?

Just because they lease the rights does not mean they have to drill or even explore. So it behooves them to lease the rights so they can control access to the oil; therefore, retaining control of the supply. It's strategic planning.

Surprised anyone???? And then the Repubs will falsely claim that Obama too received contributions from "oil companies" when they know full well that individual employees who work for companies (oil or otherwise) are counted by the FEC as contributions from corporations. It's a weird concept, but it's the one that we have. Obama '08

It does make me uncomfortable that now that Obama has given in a bit to off shore that it might seem more on the take after what McCain has done so i hope Obama is clear about the whole thing. That Mac is on the take is not shocker either as we have to know the level of desperation and the level of vile hate filled crappola he's throwing hard ball fast at Obama isn't pretty and it stinks of old oil. Especially since they have made billions in more profit off of our misery. An ad or three showing the amount they have made while we suffer and they give thousands to Mac should be out and going yesterday!!
