Report: Cheney Not Appearing At GOP Convention

Conservative magazine the American Spectator reports:

Vice President Dick Cheney will not make an appearance at the Republican convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul next month, according to sources in his office. Cheney has not sought a speaking slot at the convention, nor has his staff sought a role for him at the convention.

The McCain campaign has not gone out of its way to reach out to Cheney, though a segment of conservative Republicans had been pressing the campaign to include Cheney in the convention agenda.

The Spectator says Cheney and McCain don't get along. A Cheney spokesperson tells the LA Times only that "the vice president has a great deal of respect for John McCain and as of last Friday was out campaigning for him."

I don't think Dick could be bothered. The GOP, and the nation as a whole, has been sucked dry and left to rot. Dick's mission has been accomplished a while ago, and what we have now is the result. Record oil profits, an endless war, and a little payback for Hussein. The Republican party, the religious right, the US military, and Al-Qaida have all been used for their purpose, which was to benefit big oil, and now Dick can go retire, free to shoot fenced-in animals all day, or drink blood, or whatever could possibly give this man pleasure and fill his plastic heart with joy.

Cheney doesn't give a *uck about the GOP Convention or anything else. He got what he wanted. Big fat, no-bid contracts for Halliburton and friends. He got multi-billion dollar record profits for his buddies in the oil industry while we working folk got record high $4 gas. And Dick is about to get his "cherry-on-top" and laugh all the way out the door when he gets offshore drilling approved. Whoever hasn't figured out the last 8 years have been the biggest scam in world history is in serious denial.

I get the feeling that somehow the Republicans are trying to convince us that the last 8 years were all in our imagination. That we dreamed it. They don't acknowledge it, so it was all a myth.

If they were to walk up to us and swing a pocket watch in front of us and start saying "You are getting very very sleepy" and "When you wake up, there is no one named Dick Cheney. And any other Republican you blame, he was never here. When I count 3 you will wake up, refreshed, with no memory of those scary people and you will want to vote for John McCain" I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

I do believe that it will take mass hypnosis to clear them of their obstacle to 2008's election. And I wouldn't put it past them to try. So if a Republican you know asks you if you're sleepy, don't you fall for it. Have some coffee.

Cheney knows that McCain's candidacy is merely a political favor (e.g., Bob Dole's run) and that McCain is not "one of the Faithful" (no matter how much McCain panders), thus Cheney won't extend himself on McCain's behalf.
