Report: Cheney Not Appearing At GOP Convention

Conservative magazine the American Spectator reports:

Vice President Dick Cheney will not make an appearance at the Republican convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul next month, according to sources in his office. Cheney has not sought a speaking slot at the convention, nor has his staff sought a role for him at the convention.

The McCain campaign has not gone out of its way to reach out to Cheney, though a segment of conservative Republicans had been pressing the campaign to include Cheney in the convention agenda.

The Spectator says Cheney and McCain don't get along. A Cheney spokesperson tells the LA Times only that "the vice president has a great deal of respect for John McCain and as of last Friday was out campaigning for him."

Ha, I guess a whole bunch of little piggies are staying home. I wonder how ticket sales to the GOP convention are going. Is Toby Keith headlining? Maybe he'll change the line to "beer for my elephants.­" Actually we don't see more of Cheney because he has an implanted cardio defibrillator. It shocks him when his heart rate goes into tachycardia, which I think is quite often. I have one of these also. My old one didn't shock me for ten years, then because a crack developed in the lead, it shocked me twice. Holy batspoop, my glasses flew off. I recently got a new one. I think he has to get his dr to turn the thing off when he does public appearances (they do it with a computer mouse-like thing). Anyway, one consolation of getting shocked was knowing Cheney was getting shocked a lot more often.

The bridge that collapsed last year was on 35W in Minneapolis. Last week a small chunk of 35E, which goes through St. Paul and downtown SP, fell off--just enough to shut part of it down for a few hours. It's the freeway you take from the main airport--though there's another small one DT St. Paul. Kinda hope to see a problem with the road--not to hurt anyone--to show the dereliction of Tim Pawlenty and his refusal to fund transport system projects--until the bridge fell--and the last 18 years of non-DFL Governors. Not to mention W.
