The Obama campaign is trotting out a gubernatorial endorsement for his energy policy today... from Republican Alaska Governor and long-shot VP candidate Sarah Palin.

An aide to the presumptive Democratic nominee sent over a link to a Palin press release Tuesday morning in which the governor praised Obama for, among other things, calling for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline and proposing $1,000 rebates for families struggling with energy costs.

"We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home," Palin's press release read. "This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board."

(Stevens and Obama in one press release!)

Palin did take exception to other aspects of Obama's energy proposals, specifically a windfall profits tax on oil. And on Tuesday morning, the Republican National Committee shot around a series of newspaper headlines focused primarily on Obama's "shift" on tapping oil reserves. The articles themselves were more complimentary than the RNC's email headline -- "Does Obama's energy message need another tune-up?" -- suggested.

But for Palin to offer up praise is, within the context of the general election, of some significance. For starters, the governor is occasionally hinted at as a possible vice president (most prominently by conservative columnist Bill Kristol). In addition, unlike Democratic candidates past, Obama actually plans to compete in Alaska. A nod from the state's governor could prove a long-term benefit.

She is quite pretty. The person that said she could model for lenscrafters is right. This woman makes wearing glasses look good!

i didn't know obama had a viable energy plan
i thought his plan was almost as bad as McCain's

the problem we have in this country, is we have too many political leaders who know nothing about oil, petroleum geology, or science in general
but they do know a lot about the art of manipulation
and are doing a masterful job of that
unfortunately, what we need now is someone who can deal with real serious issues..., like say...., Peak Oil

Why would that stop them? It doesn't stop you....

Ah, the irony. You deride politicians for not knowing anything, but lead off admitting that you didn't do the minimum research.

The proof is in the pudding, she is not the first high-profile republican to voice support for one of Obama's well thought out, well researched plans. What other proof do undecideds and disappointed republicans need. Obama does have good sound solutions that will start to move us forward and he does and will work with both parties to achieve these goals. come on people, make the decision to support Obama. When John McCain spends his time telling voters that their financial woes are all in their heads and all he can do is give them psychological relief and then he mocks the real plans of his opponent by making fun of the real advice he gives the american people, telling them about the little things they can do themselves to help, like making sure the tires on their cars are properly inflated. McCain is having a field day with that one. Sadly that works for some people and McCain is making money off of it by selling $1.00 tire gauges to voters at the inflated price of $25.00. He simply has no shame.

The intectually and visually irresistable Alaska Governor Palin is only the tip of the iceberg. What will Republicans say or do when Obama gains the endorsements if not implicit support of prominent Republicans? Goldwater heirs, Eisenhower daughter, Larry Hunter, Colin Powell, Paul O'Neill, Chuck Hagel. McCain has Joe Leiberman and Rove working in the shadows while the internet is littered with photos of McCain in a bear hug of President Bush while Youtube runs videos of McCain saying that he traveled the country doing all that he could do to support President Bush's re-election.

She wants wolves hunted from airplanes and eradicated from Alaska. They just started shooting killing mothers and pups. I don't care what she looks like she's a monster to me.

A good example of someone in power who actually listens to ideas and not just ideology. Her independent nature is refreshing for a member of the GOP. Maybe she can become the maverick that John McCain used to be, and actually facilitate bi-partisan solutions to bi-partisan problems. That would be much preferable to the current gridlock in Washington. Perhaps not a bad choice for VP, although I and the rest of America know little about her. We'll see. She probably steps on conservative toes too often to get the VP nod.

I think you mean Obama is endorsing McCain's plan for drilling. It's a good thing the Obama-Edwards surge worked in Iraq too, otherwise Harry Reid would have been right about NBC's civil war.

More importantly, she might be looking for a nod from Obama. Wouldn't that be something.. talk about real change... reaching across the political chasm to pick not a republican, but a female.. Obama would get all the vote in November (minus the racist vote of course.. black guy - white woman..mmmm bad).

She might as well switch parties.

I'm sure she just joined the Repubs because they had the state wrapped up at one time anyway.

Those days are over thanks to Ted of the Tubes.
