Washington Post:

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE, Aug. 4 -- Three days before he is set to arrive in Beijing for the Olympics, President Bush offered a mixed assessment of China's role in the world, praising its efforts to curb the nuclear ambitions of North Korea and Iran, expressing disappointment about its recent move to help scuttle global trade talks, and saying that it is "really hard to tell" whether human rights in China have improved over the past eight years.

Bush said that he speaks candidly with Chinese President Hu Jintao about human rights, particularly religious freedom, and that he has shared his religious beliefs with Hu and Hu's predecessor, Jiang Zemin, urging them to lift restrictions on underground churches.

let's see here, georgie.

if you're having such a hard time figuring this issue out for yourself, why don't you ask someone like, oh, amnesty international?

they generally tend to be able to tell whether human rights are being trampled upon.

and if you hadn't decided to REMOVE the united states from the united nations human rights commission, they might have had an opinion too.

truly. but perhaps if his handlers had hidden copies of reports on human rights among the pages of his many copies of "my pet goat," he might have stumbled upon them and read them by accident.

Curious heck no. He reads books like Spot runs Home, or Mary and Spot ran after the cat. We should expect better from our presidents but this one who came into office saying he was a compassionate conservative has shown not one once of it. Journalists being arrested is no different than people going to hear a candidate speak and getting arrested like that librarian going to a McCain rally. This is what this administration has brought to our country now. We have police depts acting like the gestapo beating and ta-sing people for no reason. Come on America we deserve better. Our country since the republicans have taken over has taken our rights away. We must get our rights back.

The UN human rights commission has no time for examining violations from any country save Is-rael. They're all over Is-rael.

He could even check with the Red Cross on his own human rights record. The information is there to be bad. Of course, Georgie doesn't do nuance or information or thinking or anything else that's hard or goes against what his "gut" or Dick Cheney tells him.

How can it be hard? People have to be blind not to see progress. Think about the Chinese flying in / out of China on daily basis. When I was a student, getting a Chinese passport to leave China was unthinkable. Even leaving your town was a huge undertaking. Coming to the US used to be a huge deal. Those that came stayed. Now, China has become US tourism's targeted customers!! US dare open tourism to ordinary Chinese because US is no longer concerned that all will stay to flood the American society. China is encouraging people to go see the world because it no longer fears that people will never return to China. The fact is, as many Chinese are coming here to visit or study, so many American Chinese are returning to China to pursue their China dream. Someone posted that the government is taking homes away from quake-hit people. How rediculously uninformed is that? Chinese government is paying $70bn to build temporary and permenant homes in Sichuan. Like Cramer said on CNBC, a 100 New Orleans will be built over there in coming years.
China is not perfect and is making many mistakes. Not all have the freedom the way it is cherished here. But ask a hungry guy in NY subway whether he wants bread or going on internet to read Huffingtonpost. You should know the answer.

"The Illinois Demo-crat has also lost some support among Afri-can-Americans and Hisp-anics, where his lead over Republican John McC-ain has shrunk, and among Cath-olics, where he's lost his lead.

The net result, pollster John Zog-by found, is a race that's neck and neck, with McC-ain supported by 42 percent; Oba-ma by 41 percent; Libertarian Bob Ba-rr by 2 percent; and independent Ralph Na-der by 2 percent. Another 13 percent supported other candidates or were undedcided.

Zog-by called the results a "notable turnaround" from a July survey he did that showed Oba-ma leading by 46-36."

Enjoy your last few months of Bu-sh bashing. You'll miss him when Mac is the Prez.

"Web loggers who are campaigning against Sen ator O ba ma's presidential run are accusing Goo gle and O ba ma supporters of silencing them after their Web logs were marked as spam and their accounts temporarily frozen."

O is more secretive than W ever dreamed of being and his followers protect him from any and all negativity.

First of all, where does that "quote" come from?

Secondly, where does your assertion that "O" is more secretive that "W" come from?

Lastly, what PLANET do YOU come from?

Translation (in Dubya's own words):

"You see, I ran up huge debts to fund my 'war on terrists killers', and we had to borrow a whole lotta money from the Chinamen. China's civil rights violations are not getting better, they are getting worser, but I can't say that in public, because they got us by the balls."
