At a town hall meeting in Berea , Ohio, today, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, pushed back against the GOP attack on his advice to a voter last week that having a tuned up car and fully inflated tires would help save energy.

"Let me make a point about efficiency, because my Republican opponents - they don't like to talk about efficiency," Obama said. ...

"Now two points, one, they know they're lying about what my energy plan is, but the other thing is they're making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent. It's like these guys take pride in being ignorant.

I think about all the stories that my grandmother told me about living in the Second World War and things that they did out of patriotic effort to reduce resources for the good of the country. None of them were major things, most were in the same category of minor things as tire pressure.

But now the party that supposedly is about 'presonal responsibility' and 'traditional values' scoffs at any notion of making a personal contribution. No, personal responsibility is out, corporate welfare is the thing! (And have no doubt that the lease terms that a Bush/Cheney administration would give the oil companies would be a gold plated giveaway.)

Whoa now, before you bash others for saying Barry is elitist, the legendary Jesse Jackson himself said that Barry was talking down to b-lack people. Talking down to people is considered elitist.

80% of oil companies' leased lands are unexplored. Now, why would McCain think we need to turn over more lands, rather than explore what's already there? Why would McCain not ask why the oil companies are not exploring the leases they hold, and agree to turn over more land to them, first? Why would genseric13 try to change the subject? I do believe there is a huge pile of facts getting in the way of republican claims to respect.

Jesse Jackson is jealous of Obama, He used to say the same things to Black people about personal responsibility that Obama is saying, so he's not only jealous, he's also a hypocrite.

jspivey this is for you.

Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite — a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern

Excellent! And just when I was really starting to weary of watching BarOba play rope-a-dope with Sen. McBelowthebelt. It's about time O started showing his unworthy opponent in the "red" corner what a hard Left uppercut feels like.

All punches to the issues & factual ... it is ignorant to mock the seriousness of America's oil addiction crisis! And, it's more ignorant to think O won't come back at such mockings!! At his own pace too!!

Preach it B. Let americans see what the repubs really are. They have stood in the way of efficiency for the sole reason that it eats into the revenue of their big oil donors. Why else would any sane human being be against something as sensible as efficiency? But no they want us to spend out dollars to feed big oil. Send every repub to hell

What does one expect from folks pushing creationism?

There are plenty of religious Democrats and Independents who do not believe McCain's excrement.

"...my Republican opponents - they don't like to talk about efficiency.... they know they're lying... these guys take pride in being ignorant...."

Other astounding revelations.... the sky is blue, Sylvester Stallone is muscular, the Empire State Building is tall.

You tell them, Barack.

Great line - more to the point, they take pride in being able to sell ignorance.

McC's energy plan - write a check to big oil and hand over more national assets to them.
06:51 PM on 08/05/2008
Regarding the energy bill, Barry voted for Cheney's bill and McC voted against it. I know, I know, it doesn't matter. It was just a tactical vote, he was going to change it later.

I saw this live on CNN. I have to agree with him. Judging from this Bush administration and the blogs I read posted by repubs, they have as much education as jethro bodine!
