Even though McCain's ex-economic advisor Phil Gramm set off an uproar last month for saying Americans are experiencing a "mental" recession and we are a "nation of whiners," Republicans continue to assert the country's economic woes can be solved with a few encouraging words. Just two weeks ago, McCain claimed Bush's announcement that he would lift the presidential ban on offshore drilling has lowered oil prices. It's not surprising that McCain would give Bush that credit since he did say in June that his own offshore drilling proposal would have mostly "psychological" benefits. The Republicans clearly think these are "psychological" benefits that reduce gas prices. And why wouldn't they think the collective US mindset can lower gas prices when they think it can create recessions...?

Republicans on Capitol Hill are telling the media today that this magic formula is working for them. They are saying their protest to hold a vote on an energy package that includes offshore drilling has led to lower gas prices. Yes, their protest, which has mainly consisted of speeches to tourists, has helped lowered gas prices! Problem is, the protest was to be able to vote on domestic drilling and that hasn't happened. So they are saying their failed protest is in fact lowering oil prices. But wasn't the point of the protest to get a vote on the bill because that was the only thing that could lower gas prices? If you want to continue to be confused then read more from the Hill:

House Republicans on Tuesday said their protest of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) decision not to allow a vote on expanded offshore oil drilling has helped lower gas prices.

Heading into a third day of speeches in the near-empty chamber, Republicans acknowledged that the average price of gas and oil has declined in recent weeks. But they claimed credit for part of that reduction.

Watch video clips from the protest posted by Congressman John Culberson.

They talk to the average Joe, and Joe is still listening
to them republicans. In an ideal world, senators, congressmen
should be fired on the spot for saying stuff like that. For there is only
one truth that comes from such an action. Either the person who
is making the statement is dumb hence is not qualified to represent
anybody, or the claimer is betting on the credultiy of the audience, and
that is almost criminal.

This is what happens when you lose control and want it back. You engage in these types of theatrics.

Nancy lost my respect when she refused to bring treasonous criminals to justice in the land of 'rule by law', kind of a joke now.

simple way to lower gas prices
1) open up all existing leases held by oil companies that they say have no oil,yet they are hording them.if they dont want to drill on their leases they lose them.
2) creation of a cheap electric commute car.all it has to do is get 100 miles a charge.
3) help installing solar power panel on every existing house. any excess power is sold to the grid and money goes towards paying off the panel after its paid off owner keeps it. if they have land for other panels the same applies.
4) dropping corn as ethanol and use sugar.corn actually takes more energy to make than it creates and not as cost effective.plus it s feed crop thus drives food prices higher. sugar can be grown in the south, like la,miss, ala thus giving them cash crops.mandating every station have an e85 pump. e85 is no good if you can't get to a pump.

there are privates lands that oil companies can drill on,but why dont they.cause the us gets about 3 bucks a barrel in royalties for OUR oil. think a private landowner will get that with oil at over a hundred a barrel.thats why they push for off shore and alaska so they can rip us off.

Watch how the trolls support the republican plan that lowered gas prices to $4.00 a gallon. Whooo now thats something to brag about. I hear the Republicans are taking credit for water on mars and even though we can drill for more water here on earth they want to build a pipeline across our solar system so we can reduce our dependance on Evian.

These folks may want to look into some anti-psychotic medication.

I don't think meds are used once a lobotomy is performed.

Okay, seriously now.

Platinum has fallen in price from $2,000 per ounce to $1,560. Corn from $7.00 plus per bushel to $5.50. Gold, soybeans, etc., etc.

So, what caused all these other commodity prices to fall by 30% to 10% -- while oil also fell by 20%?

I have the answer -- MARKET FORCES.

PS -- And not a DAMN thing the repubs did or have done.

What a bunch of fools. Hopefully this serves to run the whole lot of these idiots out of DC once and for all!!!!!!!!!
