Gas

Even though McCain's ex-economic advisor Phil Gramm set off an uproar last month for saying Americans are experiencing a "mental" recession and we are a "nation of whiners," Republicans continue to assert the country's economic woes can be solved with a few encouraging words. Just two weeks ago, McCain claimed Bush's announcement that he would lift the presidential ban on offshore drilling has lowered oil prices. It's not surprising that McCain would give Bush that credit since he did say in June that his own offshore drilling proposal would have mostly "psychological" benefits. The Republicans clearly think these are "psychological" benefits that reduce gas prices. And why wouldn't they think the collective US mindset can lower gas prices when they think it can create recessions...?

Republicans on Capitol Hill are telling the media today that this magic formula is working for them. They are saying their protest to hold a vote on an energy package that includes offshore drilling has led to lower gas prices. Yes, their protest, which has mainly consisted of speeches to tourists, has helped lowered gas prices! Problem is, the protest was to be able to vote on domestic drilling and that hasn't happened. So they are saying their failed protest is in fact lowering oil prices. But wasn't the point of the protest to get a vote on the bill because that was the only thing that could lower gas prices? If you want to continue to be confused then read more from the Hill:

House Republicans on Tuesday said their protest of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) decision not to allow a vote on expanded offshore oil drilling has helped lower gas prices.

Heading into a third day of speeches in the near-empty chamber, Republicans acknowledged that the average price of gas and oil has declined in recent weeks. But they claimed credit for part of that reduction.

Watch video clips from the protest posted by Congressman John Culberson.

You mean that there is really an unholy alliance between the repubs and the oil companies. The oil companies have actuallly given large donations (that is the oil executives as opposed to small people giving small donations) to Mc Cain's campaign. By coincidence, this is as soon as Mc CAin and the other repubs push a policy that is to the oil company benefit. The oil companies also lower prices so that the repubs can say, "we did it!". An UNHOLY ALLIANCE between MC CAIN AND THE REPUB PARTY and the OIL EXECUTIVES!!!

Open your eyes, people! See the play!.

What's really sickening are all the poor fools who actually believe it.

"You want me to jump off a cliff? How high?"

When you control the corporate news media like the republicans do you can keep repeating anything you wish till some sticks to them.

When you have every news(?) media playing your tune you can do as you please.

Just think the democrats started letting the corporation buy up more and more news media until it has just a few select owners.

They even pass and changed our laws controlling monopoly of the news media and look how large the Gobal Corporations have become.

They have become super powers which have taken over and control our government and it policies.

GM , Ford , Coke , Pepsi , Oil Companies and all of what used to be our corporations are no longer American. If you could data mine corporations as they data mine our citizens , you would most likely find their main business and investments are in foreign countries , they don't give a d... about our country or it's workers.

If you have not figured that out yet , you have your head in the sand.

They only use this country as a base for protection by our military and use as a safe base for their growth.

What a bunch of dweebs the senate republicans are. They must really be praying that we're dumb enough to buy what they're selling. They stand around in the dark and make speeches to each other because they're afraid to go home and face their constituents. They have consistently voted for big oil and special interests and now that it's re-election time, they're afraid. They're so afraid that they just continually flash out with dumb stuff.More than a few of them won't be coming back next year----and that's a very good thing!

Then oil and gas prices had better not go back up by a single penny
Becaus when oil and gas prices do go back up, it'll prove, once again, that all republicans are dirty liars!

Yes. So why didn't the Republicans protest earlier? Why did they wait so long? All they had to do is go see Cheney and protest to him!

They decreased the price of gas because their snivelling generated so much gas. We have a surplus now.

Since the high prices for oil were artificially inflated in the first place do to potential shortages rather than actual shortages it's not hard to believe that the potential for additional oil supplies would causes prices to fall. Having said that, the bullcrap, assinine republican protest had nothing to do with the current drop in oil prices.

Personally, I think the manipulators in the market have reaped their unreasonable rewards. They will now let prices dip back down for a while to give the consumer the opportunity to acclimate to the new price levels. Later on, they will start the same cycle over again. It's just like last summer and many other times before.

I read the comments and wonder if sometimes I am living on a distant planet. How short are our memories that no one recalls that during the last elections gas prices went down. I told my friends and family several months ago, you want to bet that during the elections gas prices would go down to help John McCain get elect. Sure enough gas prices have started to go down and the Republicans are taking credit for it.

The day before McK-Street flip flopped about offshore drilling he'd only recieved about $200,000 in big oil contributions.
The day after; McK-Street's big oil campaing contributions skyrocketed to more than $1 million!

Big Oil: "Hey Senator Mc-KStreet, do you take American Express?"
McK-Street: "Of course I do! Just run the card through the crack in my arse and you're all set?"
Big Oil: "Thanks Mr. McK-Street, we'll be in touch tomorrow with our list of demands!"
McK-Street: "God bless America!"

Let's try this again.

That's not a magic formula, that's just magical thinking.

Of course it couldn't be due to the fact that people are using less gas.

M c P a i n = G O P first, America last

Actually, I started snapping my fingers weeks ago, and haven't stopped since.
THAT'S what lowered the gas prices.

Nonsense!
Prices have started to come down because the world now sees America poised to regain her former glory under the leadership of Barak Obama!

That the fear and economic uncertainty caused by the the cocaine addict from Crawford and his boss, Dick WAR DEFERMENTS Cheney, generated over the last 8 year sis about to mercifully come to and end!

Prices have come down becasue Americans feel a sense of sanity is returning to America!
Sadly the repubs don't feel it...but since they've never really been American anyway, its no big loss!
