Russian Judge Rules Sexual Harassment Is Okay As It Ensures Survival Of Human Race

A woman seeking to become only the third woman ever to successfully bring a sexual harassment case in Russia was dealt a shocking rebuke when the judge threw out her case, ruling that sexual harassment is actually necessary for the survival of the human race:

She alleged she had been locked out of her office after she refused to have intimate relations with her 47-year-old boss.

"He always demanded that female workers signalled to him with their eyes that they desperately wanted to be laid on the boardroom table as soon as he gave the word," she earlier told the court. "I didn't realise at first that he wasn't speaking metaphorically."

The judge said he threw out the case not through lack of evidence but because the employer had acted gallantly rather than criminally.

"If we had no sexual harassment we would have no children," the judge ruled.

Foreign Policy's blog notes that while Russia has made it a major priority to reverse the nation's population decline, this is perhaps not the best way to go about it, considering how dismal working conditions are for Russian women already:

According to a recent survey, 100 percent of female professionals said they had been subjected to sexual harassment by their bosses, 32 percent said they had had intercourse with them at least once and another seven percent claimed to have been raped.

This just goes to show you that being a judge, in any country by the way, does not mean that wisdom and justice will prevail. This Russian judge's judgement is an example of ignorance in motion. I wonder what he'd say if the woman had turned the tables on this guy and had him harassed by a thug. She would have gotten jail time for that.

Don't act so shocked. It ain't been THAT long since this kind of thinking was going on right here in the good old USofA. Ah like 30 years ago!!!

Buying our first home in 1972, only HALF of my income could be used to qualify to obtain a VA home loan, but ALL of my husband's income was used, and the half that COULD be counted, would only be counted if I obtained a BIRTH CONTROL LETTER from my Doctor, stating that yes, indeed, he had prescribed THE PILL for me. This is absolutely true. My doctor told me I was a fool for complying with that nonsense. This requirement did not disappear for several years!

Then, that same year, I went to work in the mortgage industry. We were required to meet with the homebuyers in person, prior to closing escrow. IF at that time, a woman was pregnant, and this had not been taken into consideration when qualifying the buyers, then we were required to RAT her out to FHA or VA!
Yeah, like that ever happened..­.. :-)

It depends on what part of America, I can totally see this happening in Mississippi. Working conditions and workers rights are horrible in that state.

I recently read an article about the growing number of prostitutes in Moscow and how young girls are brought in, some manipulated, others kidnapped, from poor countries. And sadly, you can see how that society at large may not put value on human being, ruled for as long as they have by totalitarian regimes. Something drastic needs to happen there before their social outlook will change.

Well, capitalism has brought voracious greed. That is a drastic change. The economic safety net for many Russians is no longer there. It is no wonder that there is a growing number of prostitutes. There has also been an uptick in the number of Russian women who have become "mail order" brides.

You're mistaken in thinking it was capitalism that brought the greed. The greed is there always, like love and war. Simply, it wasn't codified or ideologized like it is in the West. It wasn't brought up on the pedestal of a radiant ideal. But it's true that the safety net has been yanked away with the new IMF-approved trifecta of privatizat­ion-capita­l liberaliza­tion-dereg­ulation. You could have said what you want about the differences between Russian and the US, East and West, but now look down at those poor bastards -- that's us down there.

It is important to remember that even when a practice is this horrifyingly prevalent, there are people--including men--who recognize that it is wrong. And it is possible for these people to effect a change. The U.S. has had its share of chauvenistic, biggoted judges and mind-blowing opinions. We have come a long way. Others can too.
